The aim of the present study was to investigate the correlation between the elevated uric acid (UA) levels and activation of the circulating renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF).

A total of 233 outpatients and inpatients of the Cardiology Department from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2019, were selected and divided into the sinus rhythm group (SR) with 84 cases, the paroxysmal AF group (pAF) with 76 cases, and the persistent AF group (PAF) with 73 patients. The general clinical data and the serum levels of UA of the enrolled patients were collected, and the radioimmunoassay was adopted to detect the levels of renin (Renin), angiotensin II (Ang II), and aldosterone (Ald).

Renin, AngII, Ald, and UA in the PAF group were significantly higher than those in the pAF group, and the levels of the above indicators in the pAF group were significantly higher than those in the SR group (P<0.001). The left atrium anteroposterior diameter (LAD) and the left ventrrticipate in the atrial remodeling, thereby promoting the occurrence and persistence of AF.

Inflammation and vascular calcification are risk factors for cardiovascular disease, but their relationship is still under investigation. This longitudinal

study aimed to monitor inflammation and calcification during the formation of atherosclerotic plaques in apolipoprotein E knockout (ApoE

) rats by

F-fluorodeoxyglucose (

F-FDG) and

F-sodium fluoride (

F-NaF) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT).

In the ApoE group, male ApoE

rats were fed a high-fat Western diet from 13 weeks of age, and in the normal group, male SD rats of the same age were fed a normal diet. A longitudinal PET/CT study using

F-FDG and

F-NaF was performed at 12, 27, and 46 weeks of age. T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used as an atlas template, and the uptake of the tracers in the cardiovascular system was analyzed based on atlas 3D geometry volumes-of-interest (VOIs). After the PET/CT study, pathological and immunohistochemical examinations were performed on the corresponding lesio a high-fat Western diet, early atherosclerotic lesions developed in the pulmonary arteries; however, 18F-FDG failed to accumulate in these lesions but to accumulate in the aortic arch with only neointimal hyperplasia and significantly high expression of hypoxia.

Advanced carotid ultrasound techniques may be useful in characterizing plaque vulnerability, but comprehensive studies are still lacking. The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with vulnerable plaques using advanced ultrasound techniques.

This is a prospective observational study of patients with >50% internal carotid stenosis (ICA). All patients underwent conventional ultrasound, superb microvascular imaging (SMI) and shear wave elastography (SWE) examinations. Plaque size, echogenicity, stiffness and intraplaque neovascularization (IPN) were assessed and compared between symptomatic and asymptomatic groups. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of SWE and SMI of the vulnerable plaques.

The final analysis included 123 patients (78.9% male; mean age, 66±8 years), 65 were enrolled in the symptomatic group, and 58 were enrolled in the asymptomatic group. The mean elasticity was 78.1±25.4 kPa for asymptomatic and 51.5±18.3 kPa for symptomatic plaques. Symptomatic plaques showed higher visual IPN grades on SMI than asymptomatic plaques (P<0.001). NSC 74859 cell line Multivariate regression analysis showed that plaque stiffness (PS) (OR 0.95, 95% CI, 0.919-0.974) and IPN level (OR 4.17, 95% CI, 2.008-8.664) were independently associated with symptomatic plaques. The combination of the two factors had a preferable accuracy to discriminate symptomatic plaques (AUC 0.89, 95% CI, 0.827-0.944).

Advanced carotid ultrasound techniques can identify plaque characteristics that are associated with ischemic events and may be potentially indicative of plaque vulnerability. These factors may ultimately be used in the clinical management of carotid stenosis.

Although triple antithrombotic therapy (TAT) is recommended in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), guidelines allow an option of dual antithrombotic therapy (DAT). This study assesses the everyday practice of 10 cardiology departments in antithrombotic therapy in AF patients undergoing PCI and its agreement with current guidelines.

This analysis included medical data of AF patients enrolled in the prospective, observational registry (The POLish Atrial Fibrillation-POL-AF) that underwent PCI [elective or due to acute coronary syndrome (ACS)].

Of the 3,999 consecutive subjects included, a final analysis was performed on 359 patients that underwent PCI 148 with urgent PCI due to ACSand 211 patients with elective PCI. Eighty patients in the ACS-group and 120 patients in the elective-PCI group were treated with TAT, although guidelines also allowed DAT. Of 316 patients treated with oral anticoagulants as a part of combination therapy, 275 were on non-vierred over vitamin-K antagonists (VKAs) in TAT/DAT, and an aggressive antithrombotic strategy with TAT is frequently chosen even if DAT is permissible by the guidelines. Label adherence of using reduced NOAC dose during combination therapy is not satisfactory for apixaban and rivaroxaban and probably results from too cautious an approach to the known indications for reduced therapy. The study is registered in the database Clinical Trials-NCT04419012.

To investigate the protective efficacy of miR-155 on down regulating NADPH oxidase isoform subunit A1 (NoxA1) gene expression, resulting in inhibition of VSMC migration and over proliferation and thus ameliorating the progression of arterial atherosclerosis in AS mouse model. Therefore, to further explore the regulatory effect of miR-155 on neointima formation in AS and locate potential anti-atherosclerosis target.

The mouse vascular aorta smooth muscle cell (MOVAS) was cultured and transfected with recombinant Pad2YFG adenovirus fluorescent vector with miR-155 fragment into 4 groups. Western blotting and RT-PCR were performed to identify the expression of NoxA1 under different circumstances. Fluorescence microscope was applied to observe the transfection rate of miR-155 into adenovirus. Twelve-week fatty food induced atherosclerotic ApoE

mouse model was established as host to accept miR-155 transfected adenovirus transplantation to observe its effect on VSMC in AS progression. Carotid and thoracic artery were extracted at 1 month after dosing.
