Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a drug taken by people who are human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) negative and at increased risk of acquiring HIV. It's an effective intervention for HIV prevention. This study seeks to report on the prevalence and determinants of willingness to take and ever use of PrEP among female sex workers (FSW) in Ghana. The data analyzed was obtained from the Integrated Bio-behavioral Surveillance Survey conducted across the 16 regions of Ghana in 2020. Analysis was only performed on FSW who were tested negative to HIV and were sexually active. All included variables were described using medians, percentages, and graphs. Bayesian adjusted odds ratios and 95% credible intervals were estimated using a Bayesian generalized linear model via the binomial family of distributions under the logit link function.Of the 5107 FSW with complete data on willingness to use PrEP, 2737 (53.59%) reported their willingness to take PrEP. Out of the 998 respondents who have ever heard of PrEP only 64 (6ired immunodeficiency syndrome as well as those who entered into the FSW business at age less than 25 years; 946 (34.56%) and 2181 (79.65%) respectively were more willing to take PrEP. FSW from 6 out of the 16 regions of Ghana have never used PrEP. A statistically significant difference between those who entered the sex work at age less than 25 years and those within 25 to 34 years was observed. About 23% of FSWs who had been screened for Sexually Transmitted Infections were more likely to take PrEP.Respondents with lesser age and no comprehensive knowledge of HIV were more willing to take PrEP. The willingness to accept PrEP among FSWs in Ghana is modest. However, utilization is low. Advocacy or intervention programs are required to improve uptake of PrEP.

One of the most important reasons for avoiding percutaneous transhepatic gall bladder drainage (PTGBD) is the deterioration of quality of life (QOL). However, there is no study comparing the QOL between primary laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) and LC following PTGBD.Among the LC patients, 69 non-PTGBD patients and 21 PTGBD patients were included after excluding the patients with malignant disease or who needed additional common bile duct procedures. Clinicopathologic characteristics and surgical outcomes were compared. QOL was evaluated with questionnaire EORCT-C30 before and after surgery. The included patients comprised 69 non-PTGBD and 21 PTGBD patients. The PTGBD group include older and higher morbid patients. PTGBD group needed longer operation times than the non-PTGBD group (72.4±34.7 minute vs 52.8±22.0 minute, P = .022) Regarding the overall incidence of complication, the PTGBD group had a significantly higher complication rate than the non-PTGBD group (38.1% vs 10.1%, P = .003) However, there was nnctional scale and emotional scale were better in the PTGBD group compared to the non-PTGBD group. Regarding the symptom scale, postoperative dyspnea and perioperative diarrhea were better in the PTGBD group.LC following an interval from earlier PTGBD that targets acute cholecystitis or complicated GB had little to no impact on QOL when compared to standard LC.

Pearson syndrome (PS) is a multisystem mitochondrial cytopathy arising from deletions in mitochondrial DNA. Pearson syndrome is a sporadic disease that affects the hematopoietic system, pancreas, eyes, liver, and heart and the prognosis is poor. Causes of morbidity include metabolic crisis, bone marrow dysfunction, sepsis, and liver failure in early infancy or childhood. Early diagnosis may minimize complications, but suspicion of the disease is difficult and only mitochondrial DNA gene testing can identify mutations. There is no specific treatment for PS, which remains supportive care according to symptoms; however, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation may be considered in cases of bone marrow failure. We herein describe the clinical and genetic characteristics of four patients with PS. One patient presented with hypoglycemia, two developed pancytopenia, and the final patient had hypoglycemia and acute hepatitis as the primary manifestation. All patients had lactic acidosis. Additionally, all patients shinical and genetic characteristics of four patients with PS. One patient presented with hypoglycemia, two developed pancytopenia, and the final patient had hypoglycemia and acute hepatitis as the primary manifestation. All patients had lactic acidosis. Additionally, all patients showed a variety of clinical features including coagulation disorder, pancreatic, adrenal, and renal tubular insufficiencies. Two patients with pancytopenia died in their early childhood. Our experience expands the phenotypic spectrum associated with PS and its clinical understanding.

Here, we describe a series of 7 patients who presented with acute paraparesis due to anterior communicating artery aneurysm rupture. This study aimed to assess the clinical and radiological factors associated with acute paraparesis syndrome caused by subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).Between June 2005 and December 2012, our institution consecutively treated 210 patients with anterior communicating aneurysm rupture within 24 hours after ictus. We divided the patients into 2 groups based on the presence (n = 7) and absence (n = 203) of acute paraparesis after anterior communicating aneurysm rupture.Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging revealed high intensity in the medial aspects of the bilateral frontal lobes in 3 patients. The mean third ventricular distance at the time of admission was 9.2 mm (range, 8-12.5 mm), and the mean bicaudate distance was 33.9 mm (range, 24-39 mm). There was a significant difference in the bicaudate distance (P = .001) and third ventricle distance (P = .001) between the 2 groe paraparesis after anterior communicating aneurysm rupture.Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging revealed high intensity in the medial aspects of the bilateral frontal lobes in 3 patients. Acute hydrocephalus and global cerebral edema (GCE) were confirmed radiologically in all patients in the acute paraparesis group. The presence of acute hydrocephalus (P = .001) and GCE (P = .003) were significantly different between the groups.Acute paraparesis syndrome after SAH is transient and gradually improves if the patient does not develop severe vasospasm. The present study demonstrates that acute paraparesis after SAH is associated with acute hydrocephalus and GCE.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the value of the "cerebellum/ liver index for prognosis" (CLIP) as a new prognostic marker in pretherapeutic 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET) in patients with follicular lymphoma treated by immunochemotherapy and rituximab maintenance, focusing on progression-free survival (PFS).Clinicobiological and imaging data from patients with follicular lymphoma between March 2010 and September 2015 were retrospectively collected and 5-year PFS was determined. The conventional PET parameters (maximum standardized uptake value and total metabolic tumor volume) and the CLIP, corresponding to the ratio of the cerebellum maximum standardized uptake value over the liver SUVmean, were extracted from the pretherapeutic 18F-FDG PET.Forty-six patients were included. Eighteen patients (39%) progressed within the 5 years after treatment initiation. Five-year PFS was 78.6% when CLIP was >4.0 and 42.0% when CLIP was <4.0 (P = .04). CLIP was a significant predictor of PFS on univariate analysis (hazard ratio 3.1, P = .049) and was near-significant on multivariate analysis (hazard ratio 2.8, P = .07) with ECOG PS as a cofactor. The CLIP derived from pretherapeutic 18F-FDG PET seems to be an interesting predictive marker of PFS in follicular lymphoma treated by immunochemotherapy and rituximab maintenance. These results should be evaluated prospectively in a larger cohort.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most frequent cancer in men worldwide, and its mortality rate is increasing every year. The cell division cycle-associated (CDCA) gene family plays vital roles in the cell cycle process, but an analysis of these proteins in PCa is still lacking.

UALCAN and GEPIA were used to examine the transcriptional data and survival of the CDCA gene family in PCa patients. CDCA genetic alterations, prognostic value of genetic alterations, and correlations of CDCAs with each other in PCa were downloaded from cBioPortal. The functional enrichment data of CDCA-related genes were analyzed using DAVID.

Six CDCA genes were upregulated in PCa tissues relative to those in normal tissues (P < .001), including NUF2, CDCA2, CDCA3, CDCA5, CBX2, and CDCA8. The expression levels of the 6 CDCAs were related to the tumor Gleason score (P < .05). In addition, survival analysis using GEPIA suggested that PCa patients with increased NUF2, CBX2, and CDCA2/3/5/8 expression levels had poor relaps their functions in tumorigenesis through the cell cycle and miRNAs in the cancer pathway.

The study aims to evaluate the characteristics, treatments, and incidence rates of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and tenosynovitis in women with breast cancer, according to the hormone therapy used. We retrospectively reviewed women with breast cancer identified from the clinical data warehouse of the six hospitals in Korea, from January 2015 to August 2020. Among them, patients with CTS or tenosynovitis were reviewed in terms of disease status and treatments. A total of 101 patients among a population of 15,504 met the study inclusion criteria, so their clinical data were analyzed. Aurora A Inhibitor I in vivo Aromatase inhibitor (AI) users frequently needed oral medication for CTS, and developed severe CTS which frequently required surgery. AI users presented with a higher incidence of CTS (1.3%) than patients without hormone therapy (0.4%), and tenosynovitis occurred at a higher rate in AI users (2.3%) compared to the tamoxifen (1.1%) and no hormone groups (0.5%). More than half of the CTS and tenosynovitis occurred within 12 months AI users presented with a higher incidence of CTS (1.3%) than patients without hormone therapy (0.4%), and tenosynovitis occurred at a higher rate in AI users (2.3%) compared to the tamoxifen (1.1%) and no hormone groups (0.5%). More than half of the CTS and tenosynovitis occurred within 12 months after hormone commencement. The incidence and disease characteristics of CTS and tenosynovitis differed among the groups depending on the type of hormone therapy received. Our findings will help clinicians understand clinical courses and treatments for CTS and tenosynovitis in breast cancer patients.
