There are some clues that bring to mind rare entities. Firstly, these patients generally present with various systemic manifestations. Secondly, if there is any discrepancy between voice quality and endoscopic laryngeal examination, the diagnosis should be reconsidered. Thirdly, in the case of the prolonged dysphonia recalcitrant to treatment, the clinician should reassess the treatment or the diagnosis.

The roles differ in gender, age, personality and phonation types. Differences among emotions (neutral, sad, angry and happy), singers and roles were examined. For most roles, more similarities were observed between neutral and sad stage speech and between angry and happy stage speeches. In most cases, the latter group showed higher Leq, mean SPL and Mean F0 and larger standard deviation (SD) of SPL difference than the former. Some parameters, such as SD of SPL, the mean of SPL difference and the difference between Leq and mean SPL, also showed the intra-group differences.Young woman role, Young man role and Old woman role were similar in some parameters. Colorful face role and Old man role showed a lot of similarities. Clown role showed the least similarities with the other roles. With regard to gender and age, young roles showed smaller SPL difference, larger correlation coefficient between F0 and SPL and larger mean SPL differences between emotions than old roles; female roles had greater parameter consistency and larger correlation coefficient between F0 and SPL than male roles. Imatinib Bcr-Abl inhibitor The personality and phonation types also effected the characteristics of loudness and pitch. This study showed the importance of speakers' characteristics in emotional speech analysis.
Pepsinogen A (PGA)/pepsin A is often used as a diagnostic marker of extra-gastroesophageal reflux. We aimed to explore whether its positivity in upper aerodigestive tract (UADT) was specific enough to diagnose reflux.
PGA/pepsin A protein levels were examined in 10 types of tissues and 10 types of body fluid by immunological staining, western blot or Elisa, using three different commercially available brands simultaneously. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry parallel reaction monitoring (LC-MS/MS PRM) served as a gold reference for the detection of PGA/pepsin A proteins. PGA gene expression was analyzed by reverse transcriptase sequencing methods for tissue samples. Specifically, 24 hour pH monitoring technique was conducted for patients who donated saliva samples.
Eight out of ten types of human tissue samples (stomach, esophagus, lung, kidney, colon, parotid gland, nasal turbinate and nasal polyps) were confirmed positive for PGA/pepsin A gene and protein by genetic and PRM technique, respo diagnose extra-gastroesophageal reflux without a specific positive cut-off value is unreliable.
The study aimed to explore the professional and recreational and/or personal voice use patterns and social representation of 'vocal hygiene' in two culturally and geographically diverse societies India and Bhutan.
A total of 339 volunteers of Indian and Bhutanese nationality participated through snowball sampling. The responses were elicited using multiple-choice questions and a free association task. The data from the multiple-choice questions were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. The free association task's responses underwent content and co-occurrence analysis to identify the most frequently occurring response categories.
The professional voice use pattern differed between the two populations but not the recreational and/or personal voice use pattern. The results also revealed diverse social representations of 'vocal hygiene' in India and Bhutan.
The present study sheds light on the voice use patterns and how the concept of vocal hygiene is represented in the two countries. These findings may have implications for developing and executing society specific awareness programs about vocal hygiene and its importance.

To investigate oncological, surgical and functional outcomes of transoral robotic surgery cordectomy (TORS-Co).
A retrospective chart review of patients benefiting from TORS-Co for a cT1a vocal fold squamous cell carcinoma was conducted at a single academic medical center. TORS-Co was performed through da Vinci robot. The following outcomes were studied preoperative and operative exposures; feasibility; conversion rate; average robotic set-up and operative times; margin status; postoperative complications; tracheotomy and feeding tube requirement.
The medical record data of 12 patients were collected. Among them, two patients were excluded because the laryngeal exposition was not adequate. From the 10 included patients, TORS-Co was not performed in three patients. The tumor was not exposable regarding anatomical conditions in two patients, while the size of the robot arms did not allow an adequate exposure in another patient. TORS-Co was performed in the remaining seven patients without transient trachelaser CO2 microsurgery, which remains the gold standard surgical approach for early glottic squamous cell carcinoma."Wet" eldercare facilities for people who age with long-term substance use problems and complex needs exist in several countries. Residents are accepted as active users of alcohol and drugs, and while the media has presented the permissive policies of the facilities in a positive light, others have described these policies as harmful. The aim of this article is to analyze residents' and staff members' understanding of alcohol and drug policies in wet eldercare facilities. Is there a shared understanding? What reasons do they give in support or criticism of the policies? The study is based on qualitative interviews with 42 residents and 21 staff members at four Swedish eldercare facilities for people who are aging with long-term substance use problems. The research team identified central themes using qualitative content analysis. The analysis shows that both residents and staff cite self-determination and the need for pragmatic trade-offs as the reasons for a policy whereby residents can consume alcohol in the privacy of their own rooms but not in common areas.
