Ten healthy young adults (8 men and 2 women Height 173.3 ± 9.6 cm Body mass 69.84 ± 10.88 kg; Body fat 19.47 ± 8.42%; Age 25.3 ± 4.8 years) performed unilateral isotonic knee extension exercise, whereby each leg was randomly allocated to perform the eccentric phase of movement with a duration of either 2 seconds (G2S) or 4 seconds (G4S). Both conditions carried out the concentric phase of each repetition at a 1 second duration with no rest in the transition phases. Each condition performed 5 sets using 70% of 1 repetition maximum until muscle failure with 3 minutes of rest between sets for 8 weeks. The change in muscle strength was assessed by 1RM knee extension and muscle thickness was assessed by A-mode ultrasound. Eccentric duration did not differentially affect strength-related adaptations.This study investigated the effects of a ballistic training programme using an arm/shoulder specific strength device (ASSSD) on the upper body peak power (PP), muscle volume (MV) of the dominant arm and throwing velocity in junior handball players. Twenty-six players were randomly assigned to an experimental (EG = 15, age 17.6 ± 0.51 years) and control (CG = 11, age 17.36 ± 0.50 years) group. Over an 8-week in-season period, the EG performed a ballistic training programme (2 sessions/week) immediately before their normal team handball training. Both groups underwent tests on the ASSSD, which operates in consecutive accelerative and decelerative actions, for throwing characteristics determination. Peak power (PP), peak force (PF), peak velocity (PV), peak rate of power development (PRPD), muscle volume (MV), throwing velocity with runup, standing throw, and jump throw were also assessed before/after the training programme. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether in moderate paddling there is a U-shaped relationship between oxygen uptake and stroke rate, and also whether elite kayakers apply a freely chosen stroke rate, which is energetically optimal. Eleven young male elite kayakers performed moderate kayak ergometry at preset target stroke rates of 65, 75, and 90 strokes min-1, and at a freely chosen stroke rate, while physiological responses including oxygen uptake were measured. The results showed that considering average values calculated across all participants, there was an approximately U-shaped relationship between oxygen uptake and target stroke rate with a minimum at 75 strokes min-1. The freely chosen stroke rate was 67.0 ± 6.1 strokes min-1. Thus, the freely chosen stroke rate, for the group in total, appeared to be lower and require higher oxygen uptake as compared to the energetically optimal preset target stroke rate. Eight out of 11 participants had a higher oxygen uptake (5.1% ± 6.7%, p = 0.028, across all participants) at their freely chosen stroke rate than at the preset target stroke rate, which resulted in the lowest oxygen uptake. We searched through five databases to find studies that examined the test-retest reliability of peak force in the isometric mid-thigh pull exercise. From each included study, we extracted intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC) and/or coefficient of variation (CV). The methodological quality of the included studies was evaluated using the COSMIN checklist. A total of 16 good-to-excellent quality studies were included in the review. When considering results from all included studies, ICCs ranged from 0.73 to 0.99 (median ICC = 0.96), where 78% of ICCs were ≥ 0.90, and 98% of ICCs were ≥ 0.75. The range of reported CVs was from 0.7% to 11.1% (median CV = 4.9%), where 58% of CVs were ≤ 5%. Reliability was also good-to-excellent for both relative and absolute peak force and for both bilateral and unilateral isometric mid-thigh pull tests. The majority of studies did not find significant differences between testing sessions. It can be concluded that the isometric mid-thigh pull maximum strength assessment has good-to-excellent test-retest reliability. The healthcare model for addressing the needs of LGBTQ persons has historically been that of a disease model of care, particularly during the HIV/AIDS crisis, and has recently moved to that of a health equity model in the past 20 years. The LGBTQ community, social work profession, and general medical community worked to create the health care equity model we have today and this paper will discuss how this evolved. The health care equity model addresses the health needs for older adult LGBTQ populations. Older LGBTQ adults are more likely to experience elevated rates of chronic conditions (such as HIV, cancer, diabetes), higher prevalence of anxiety/depression, greater substance abuse, higher economic insecurities, limited community resources, and limited access to health care services compared to heterosexual/cisgender counterparts. This paper discusses how health disparities among this minority population and heterosexual/cisgender individuals have been exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, this paper will address policy, research, and practice implications to understand how to assist this vulnerable subpopulation of LGBTQ persons.One of the most significant goals in plant breeding programs is to generate new rice varieties with increased elements and good grain quality. In this experiment, ten rice genotypes were evaluated for grain quality traits and protein percentage. Also, milled rice of the ten genotypes were used for analysis of mineral elements. The results revealed that mean squares attributable to genotypes were significant for all traits during the two growing seasons, showing the presence of broad genetic variability among genotypes for all traits under consideration. However, the Indica type (Egyptian Yasmin and Giza 182) gave the highest value for grain length (7.10, 6.52 mm) and grain shape (2.87, 2.82 mm) under the two seasons. While, Al-Ahsa Type1 and Al-Ahsa Type2 rice varieties gave the highest values in protein percentage, which gave 10.80 and 9.80%.
