The survivors of Bhopal gas tragedy are at higher risk of developing COVID-19 related adverse outcome. One of the possible explanations can be long term effect of methyl isocyanate (MIC). MIC exposure can lead to possible toxic effect on genetic, epigenetic and non-genetic factors. In this review, we aim to establish the scientific basis for adverse outcome in COVID-19 patients who are also victims of Bhopal gas tragedy.

To determine the association between the number of pulls during vacuum-assisted deliver and neonatal and maternal complications.

This was a single-center observational study using a cohort of pregnancies who underwent vacuum-assisted delivery from 2013 to 2020. We excluded pregnancies transitioning to cesarean section after a failed attempt at vacuum-assisted delivery. The number of pulls to deliver the neonate was categorized into 1, 2, 3, and≥4 pulls. We used logistic regression models to investigate the association between the number of pulls and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission and maternal composite outcome (severe perineal laceration, cervical laceration, transfusion, and postpartum hemorrhage≥500mL).

We extracted 480 vacuum-assisted deliveries among 7,321 vaginal deliveries. The proportion of pregnancies receiving 1, 2, 3, or≥4 pulls were 51.9, 28.3, 10.8, and 9.0%, respectively. The crude prevalence of NICU admission with 1, 2, 3, and≥4 pulls were 10.8, 16.2, 15.4, and 27.9%, respectively. The prevalence of NICU admission, amount of postpartum hemorrhage, and postpartum hemorrhage≥500mL were significantly different between the four groups. Multivariable logistic regression analysis found the prevalence of NICU admission in the≥4 pulls group was significantly higher compared with the 1 pull group (adjusted odds ratio, 3.3; 95% confidence interval, 1.4-7.8). In contrast, maternal complications were not significantly associated with the number of pulls.

Vacuum-assisted delivery with four or more pulls was significantly associated with an increased risk of NICU admission. However, the number of pulls was not associated with maternal complications.

Vacuum-assisted delivery with four or more pulls was significantly associated with an increased risk of NICU admission. However, the number of pulls was not associated with maternal complications.Endometriosis negatively impacts the lives of countless women around the world. When medical management fails to improve quality of life often women are left making a decision whether or not to proceed with surgery. With endometriomas, patient's surgical options include complete surgical removal or drainage via laparoscopy. Here, we review the literature to discuss both techniques, excision and drainage of endometriomas, and what the research supports for endometrioma management.Objective. Clinical use of glucocorticoids is a frequent cause of secondary osteoporosis, which reduces the mineral density of bones and results in pathological fractures. Mechanical stimulation as non-physiological high-frequency vibration with low acceleration prevents the loss of a crystalline component and stimulates the anabolic remodeling of the bone. The aim of the present research was to assess the impact of mechanical vibration on the bone structure in rats, which received glucocorticoids.Methods. Wistar rats were randomized into three groups Vehicle control (Veh), Methylprednisolone sodium succinate (Mps), and Mps combined with whole-body vibration (WBV). Rats of Mps+WBV and Mps groups received 3 mg/kg/day of methylprednisolone every other day for 24 weeks and rats of Veh group received 0.9% saline (sodium chloride). The group of rats Mps+WBV was subjected to WBV for 30 minutes per day for five days a week with parameters 0.3 g and frequency 50 Hz. Relative amount of crystalline component and collagspite the positive impact of vibration on the bone tissue after Mps introduction in the 8th-16th week, this influence was not statistically reliable in the 24th week of the experiment.Conclusions. The results of our investigation on animal model indicate that non-physiological vertical mechanical vibrations are an effective means to prevent loss of a mineral bone component during treatment with glucocorticoids.Objectives. Hungry bone syndrome (HBS) is a severe and underdiagnosed complication of parathyroidectomy in the treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHP) and secondary hyper-parathyroidism to chronic kidney disease (SHP-CKD).Methods. A longitudinal study was conducted to compare the postoperative outcomes of patients who developed HBS in two different time frames before and after implementing a protocol with an intensive electrolytic monitoring and an algorithm regarding electrolytic supplementation.Results. Overall, 77 parathyroidectomies were included. In PHP, a protocol implementation led to an increased admission of patients in the Intermediate Care Unit for intensive electrolytic monitoring (p less then 0.001) and an increased rate of oral calcium replacement during hospital stay (p=0.013) compared to pre-protocol era. In SHP-CKD, duration of intravenous calcium replacement was reduced (p=0.010). The prevalence of HBS (9.8% in PHP and 58.3% in SHP-CKD) was similar between the two periods, although its diagnosis had an increased trend in PHP since the protocol implementation. Citarinostat supplier None of the diagnosis of HBS was established due to hypocalcemic symptoms in the post-protocol era (contrary to pre-protocol period, p=0.021). Both hypocalcemia length and duration of surgical ward hospitalization were reduced (p=0.047 and p=0.042, respectively).Conclusions. An improved assessment of hyperparathyroidism and a decrease in HBS severity were noted in the post-protocol era. We strongly recommend the implementation of a standardized protocol with an intensive phosphocalcium monitoring in the high-risk patients who undergo parathyroidectomy due to hyperparathyroidism as it improves the health care and management of HBS.Objective. Thyroid hormones play an important role in the development and maturation of the central nervous symptom and their failure in the prenatal period leading to an irreversible brain damage. Their effect on the brain of adult, however, has not been fully studied. With the discovery of neurogenesis in the adult brain, many recent studies have been focused on the understanding the basic mechanisms controlling this process. Many neurogenesis regulatory genes are not only transcribed but also translated into the blood cells. The goal of our study was to analyze the transcriptional activity of neurogenesis regulatory genes in peripheral blood cells in patients with thyroid pathology.Methods. The pathway-specific PCR array (Neurotrophins and Receptors RT2 Profiler PCR Array, QIAGEN, Germany) was used to identify and validate the neurogenesis regulatory genes expression in patients with thyroid pathology and control group.Results. The results showed that GFRA3, NGFR, NRG1, NTF3, NTRK1, and NTRK2 significantly decreased their expression in patients with autoimmune thyroiditis with rising serum of autoantibodies.
