To measure the lesion size reduction in eyes with active toxoplasma retinochoroiditis during the disease course with swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA).

We retrospectively analysed the chorioretinal lesion size in a group of 14 eyes with a single active toxoplasma retinochoroiditis lesion. SS-OCTA was performed at the baseline and follow-up in all eyes. The 6 × 6mm choriocapillaris slab images were evaluated with image analysis (MATLAB). The number of black and white pixels in a 1500-µm-diameter circle centred on each active lesion was counted at the time of baseline examination and at the first follow-up visit when the chorioretinal scar formation was noticed.

Fourteen eyes with a single active toxoplasmosis retinochoroiditis lesion were included. Ten patients were female and three were male. The mean age was 29.1 ± 14.9years. Active lesions were at the macula in five eyes, at the periphery in six eyes and juxtapapillary in three eyes. At the initial examination, the lesionxoplasma retinochoroiditis lesion size could be monitored with an OCTA-based image analysis technique. Interestingly, the reduction in the lesion size was lesser in the macular lesions than the peripheral and juxtapapillary lesions following the treatment and this might contribute to the poorer visual outcomes observed in eyes with macular lesions.

Analysis of cases with spirochetal uveitis related to spirochetes in a tertiary referral academic center.

Retrospective study of patients diagnosed with uveitis attributed to Treponema pallidum, Leptospira spp. and Borrelia burgdorferi from June 1991 until December 2019.

A total of 57 cases of spirochetal uveitis (22 patients with T. pallidum, 26 with Leptospira spp., and 9 with B. burgdorferi) that consisted 1% of the overall number of uveitics were recorded. All these cases presented with a wide spectrum of clinical presentations (anterior uveitis, posterior uveitis, panuveitis, vasculitis, papillitis, and in some rare cases concomitant posterior scleritis). The treatment included mainly penicillin or doxycycline, while corticosteroids were administered systematically in some cases with Borrelia or Leptospira infection. The final visual outcome was favorable (> 6/10 in Snellen visual acuity) in approximately 76% of our patients.

Despite being rare, spirochetal uveitis can be detrimental for the vision and must always be included in the differential diagnosis.

To compare between the effect of early (3months) and late (6months) silicone removal on the electroretinogram records.

Thirty-four eyes with complex primary rhegmatogenous macula off retinal detachment undergone vitrectomy. link2 Silicone oil was removed after 3months in group I and after 6months in group II. Scotopic and photopic ERGs, pattern electroretinogram (PERG) and multifocal ERG (mfERG) and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were recorded for all eyes RESULTS Preoperative mean best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) measured was 0.93 ± 0.05 in group I and 0.9 ± 0.08 in group II. One month after silicone removal, mean BCVA was 0.20 ± 0.04 and 0.18 ± 0.02 in groups I and II respectively. Before silicone oil removal the electroretinographic a- and b-waves were greatly reduced in both groups with no significant difference between them. One month after removal of silicone oil, the electroretinographic a- and b-waves increased in both groups with no significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.46 and 0.23 respectively).

The amplitudes of the ERGs increase after removal of silicone oil tamponade with no difference between early (3months) and late (6months) removal.

Relative levels of ALKBH5 and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) in glioma tissues and cell lines were determined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot. Gain-of-function and loss-of-function approaches were used to investigate the role of ALKBH5 in mediating proliferation and energy metabolism of glioma cells. The regulatory effect of ALKBH5 on G6PD was analyzed using m6A-qRT-PCR. Our results showed that ALKBH5 was upregulated in glioma, which stimulated glioma cells to proliferate. Serving as a m6A eraser, ALKBH5 demethylated the target transcript G6PD and enhanced its mRNA stability, thereby promoting G6PD translation and activating the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP). Collectively, ALKBH5 stimulates glioma cells to proliferate through erasing the m6A methylation of G6PD, which can be utilized as a potential therapeutic target for glioma. For cancer prediction, the prognostic stage is the main factor that helps medical experts to decide the optimal treatment for a patient. Specialists study prognostic stage information from medical reports, often in an unstructured form, and take a larger review time. The main objective of this study is to suggest a generic clinical decision-unifying staging method to extract the most reliable prognostic stage information of breast cancer from medical records of various health institutions. Additional prognostic elements should be extracted from medical reports to identify the cancer stage for getting an exact measure of cancer and improving care quality. This study has collected 465 pathological and clinical reports of breast cancer sufferers from India's reputed medical institutions. The unstructured records were found distinct from each institute. Anatomic and biologic factors are extracted from medical records using the natural language processing, machine learning and rule-based method for prognostic stage detection. This study has extracted anatomic stage, grade, estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) from medical reports with high accuracy and predicted prognostic stage for both regions. The prognostic stage prediction's average accuracy is found 92% and 82% in rural and urban areas, respectively. It was essential to combine biological and anatomical elements under a single prognostic staging method. A generic clinical decision-unifying staging method for prognostic stage detection with great accuracy in various institutions of different regional areas suggests that the proposed research improves the prognosis of breast cancer.Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease currently diagnosed based on characteristic motor dysfunctions. link3 The most common Parkinson's disease animal model induces massive nigrostriatal degeneration by intracerebral infusion of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA). Motor deficits in rat models of Parkinson's disease were previously addressed in other works. However, an accurate quantification of muscle function in freely moving PD-lesioned rats over time has not been described until now. In this work, we address the muscular activity characterization of a 6-OHDA-lesion model of PD along 6 weeks post-lesion based on spectral and morphological analysis of the signals. Using chronic implanted EMG electrodes in a hindlimb muscle of freely moving rats, we have evaluated the effect of the PD neurotoxic model in the muscular activity during locomotion. EMG signals obtained from animals with different time post-injury were analyzed. Power spectral densities were characterized by the mean and median frequency, and the EMG burst stationarity was previously verified for all animals. Our results show that as the time post-lesion increases both frequency parameters decrease. Probability distribution function analysis was also performed. The results suggest that contractile dynamics of the biceps femoris muscle change with time post-lesion. We have also demonstrated here the usefulness of frequency parameters as biomarkers for monitoring the muscular function changes that could be used for early detection of motor dysfunction. We studied changes in the subpopulation composition and phagocytic activity of monocytes in patients with kidney cancer under the influence of metabolites of the tumor microenvironment in vitro (lactate, ADP, and glutamate). Incubation with metabolites caused similar shifts in the monocyte subsets in kidney cancer patients (an increase in the relative content of classical CD14++CD16- monocytes and a decrease in the content of the fraction of intermediate CD14++CD16+ monocytes), but different changes in their phagocytic activity. The regulatory effect of metabolites on cells is realized by various mechanisms receptor, metabolic, and epigenomic. The reactions of monocytes to metabolites in vitro confirm the existence of a distant metabolic effect of the tumor on blood cells that should be taken into account when developing new immunotherapeutic methods. We studied the prolonged action of kainic acid on glutamatergic neurons in the dorsal hippocampus and the endocannabinoid-dependent protection against neurodegeneration. The pyramidal neurons of the CA3 field of the hippocampus, as well as granular and mossy cells of the dentate gyrus were examined. Light and electron microscopy revealed substantial damage to the components of the protein-synthesizing (rough endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and polyribosomes) and catabolic (lysosomes, autophagosomes, multivesicular structures, and lipofuscin formations) systems in all cells. Pyramidal and mossy neurons die mainly by the necrotic pathway. The death of granular cells occurred through both apoptosis and necrosis. The most vulnerable cells are mossy neurons located in the hilus. Activation of the endocannabinoid system induced by intracerebral injection of URB597, an inhibitor of degradation of endocannabinoid anandamide, protected the normal structure of the hippocampus and prevented neuronal damage and death induced by KA.The study examined the changes in intraperitoneal body temperature of laboratory mice, Jungar hamsters, European greenfinch Chloris chloris, and starlings. In a few minutes range, these changes significantly correlated not only between the animals of the same species, but also between the different classes such as birds and mammals, which were isolated from each other and maintained under different illumination regimen. This phenomenon indicates some external influence(s) on the central mechanisms of the thermal control system not related to illumination regiment. In 80% cases, the phases of most pronounced rhythms of body temperature oscillating with the periods of 8-9 and 12-13 min coincided with those of geomagnetic field within the accuracy of ±1 min. However, the amplitude of body temperature oscillations did not depend on the amplitude of geomagnetic field (GMF) oscillations. Synchronicity of the changes in body temperature and GMF was observed at the amplitude of GMF oscillation of 0.4 nT, which is extremely low value.
