Diabetic nephropathy is a common complication in diabetic patients, with a high rate of disability and mortality. This study aims to explore the changes in serum advanced glycation end products (AGEs), matrix metalloprotein-2 (MMP-2), and urinary microalbuminuria (mALB) in diabetic nephropathy and their predictive value for heart failure.

The 134 patients with diabetic nephropathy treated in our hospital from January 2014 to December 2017 were enrolled and divided into two groups resulting in 64 cases in an observation group with heart failure, and 70 cases without heart failure in a control group. In addition, 80 patients with simple diabetes who were treated during the same period were selected as the simple diabetes group. Levels of AGEs, MMP-2, and mALB between the groups were compared, risk factors affecting diabetic nephropathy patients with heart failure were analyzed, and an ROC curve was drawn to evaluate the predictive value of AGEs, MMP-2, and mALB for heart failure.

To investigate the effect of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) on donor kidney in donation after citizens' death (DCD) donors.

The clinical and laboratory data of 159 DCD donors obtained by our center in 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. The DIC diagnosis was performed according to the Chinese DIC scoring system (CDSS). The donors were divided into two groups DIC (+) and DIC (-). The difference between kidney rejection rate and zero puncture glomerular microthrombus formation rate were compared.

Among the 159 DCD donors, 11 were discarded (accounting for 6.91%). The reasons for the discarded cases included 5 cases (3.14%) for moderate and severe glomerular microthrombus formation in the renal zero puncture pathology; 2 cases (1.26%) for glomerular sclerosis ratio over 50%; 2 cases (1.26%) for long-term low blood pressure before pregnancy and significantly increased serum creatinine level and no urine; 1 case (0.73%) for kidney stones and stagnant water; 1 case (0.63%) for malignant tumor. The donor rejection rate of the DIC (+) group was higher than that of the DIC (-) group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Among all donors, 10 cases (6.29%) were found to have glomerular microthrombus at zero puncture, and the microthrombotic rate in the DIC (+) group was significantly higher than that in the DIC (-) group (P<0.05). Of the 10 microthrombotic donors, 5 donors with severe glomerular microthrombus were discarded.

More and more studies have paid attention to the role of apoptosis in tumorigenesis. A variety of apoptosis-related genes (ARGs) are related to tumor progression and resistance to chemotherapy drugs. Therefore, this study aims to establish a prognostic marker for ARG-based testicular germ cell tumors (TCGT).

TCGT sequencing data and clinical information were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and GEO database. The sequencing data of normal tissues came from the GTEx database. Through univariate COX, LASSO, and multiple COX regression analyses, we screened out key ARGs related to prognosis and constructed a risk signature and a prognostic nomogram. Finally, we performed internal and external verification to verify the signature we have established.

Five ARGs, including CHGA, LPCAT1, PPP1CA, PSMB5, UBR2 were selected out and utilized to establish a novel signature. We aim to examine the safety and efficacy of intra-operative cell salvage (ICS) in radical prostatectomy.

A retrospective cohort study was performed, enrolling consecutive patients undergoing open radical prostatectomy at two institutions during 01/01/18-31/12/19. Patients were grouped by ICS use. Primary outcomes were allogeneic transfusion rates, and biochemical recurrence (prostate specific antigen >0.2 mg/mL). Secondary outcomes were use of adjuvant therapies, Clavien-Dindo complications and transfusion-related cost (allogeneic transfusion + ICS setup + ICS reinfusion).

Patients with obstructive pyonephrotic nonfunctioning kidney (OPNK) often require simple nephrectomy for long-term severe clinical symptoms. We aimed to analyze the outcomes of retroperitoneal laparoscopy versus open surgery for OPNK.

The study included clinical data of 69 patients with non-tuberculous OPNK from January 2015 to June 2019 in a single center. The patients were divided into laparoscopic group (LS, N=33) and open surgery group (OS, N=36). Those whose pathological findings were xanthogranulomatous inflammation or tuberculous granuloma were excluded. Statistical analysis compared the two groups in terms of basic demographic characteristics, preoperative laboratory examination results, and intraoperative and postoperative observation indicators.

The results showed that non-tuberculous OPNK were more common in women (female/male =41). Compared with the LS group, patients in the OS group had higher white blood cells (WBC; P=0.010) and neutrophils (P=0.005) counts before surgery. A comprehensive search was undertaken of the Cochrane Register, PubMed, and Embase databases for controlled trials that evaluated patients with CPPS who were treated with LI-ESWT and that were published before August 2019. The National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (NIH-CPSI) was the most frequently used tool to evaluate the treatment efficacy of LI-ESWT. The NIH-CPSI comprises subscales for pain [using a visual analog scale (VAS)], urinary function, and quality of life (QoL).
