Background Frailty is one of the most important risk factors for adverse outcomes in older adults. Despite a high prevalence, there is still a lack of frailty screening instruments specific to Chinese older adults. We developed a simple frailty screening questionnaire (FSQ) that could predict long-term mortality. We aimed to explore the reliability and construct validity of this new measurement tool. Methods A total of 205 individuals aged 65 years or older were recruited in this study. The FSQ and frailty phenotype were assessed. The FSQ included self-reported slowness, weakness, weight loss, inactivity, and exhaustion. A subgroup of 109 participants completed the FSQ a second time 2 weeks later for test-retest reliability. Frailty phenotype included slowness, exhaustion, weight loss, weakness, and inactivity. Results The intraclass correlation coefficient for the FSQ, slowness, weakness, weight loss, inactivity and exhaustion were 0.937, 0.938, 0.934, 0.921, 0.826, and 0.832, respectively. Using a cut-off of 3, the sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve of the receiver operating characteristic were 52.6%, 93.5%, and 0.883 (p  less then  0.001), respectively. The kappa coefficient between the FSQ and frailty phenotype was 0.431 (p  less then  0.001). FSQ score was negatively correlated with walking speed and grip strength, and positively correlated with age. Frailty defined by the FSQ was associated with older age, chronic diseases, and worse physical function. Conclusions The FSQ is a potentially useful, reliable, and valid instrument in screening frailty in older adults, and can be recommended to identify frailty in clinical settings. © The Author(s), 2020.Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), is characterized by chronic inflammation, a relapsing and remitting clinical course, requirement for lifelong medication and often, significant morbidity. Hemodynamic, inflammatory, and oxidative mechanisms interact in the pathophysiological scenario of this chronic arterial disease. We discuss the hemodynamic, muscle tissue, and oxidative stress (OxS) conditions related to chronic ischemia of the peripheral arteries. This review summarizes the results of evaluating both metabolic and oxidative markers, and also therapy to counteract OxS. Approximately 60% of pelvic injuries are related to the posterior pelvic ring. However, the selection of a fixation method for a posterior pelvic ring injury remains a challenging problem for orthopedic surgeons. The aim of the present study is to investigate the biomechanical performance of five different fixation approaches for posterior pelvic ring injury and thus provide guidance on the choice of treatment approach in a clinical setting. Methods A finite element (FE) model, including the L3-L5 lumbar vertebrae, sacrum, and full pelvis, was created from CT images of a healthy adult. Tile B and Tile C types of pelvic fractures were created in the model. Five different fixation methods for fixing the posterior ring injury (PRI) were simulated TA1 (conservative treatment), TA2 (S1 screw fixation), TA3 (S1 + S2 screw fixation), TA4 (plate fixation), and TA5 (modified triangular osteosynthesis). An upright standing loading scenario was simulated, and the resultant displacements at the sacroiliac joint were compared between different models. Results When TA5 was applied, the resultant displacements at the sacroiliac joint were the smallest (1.5 mm, 1.6 mm, 1.6 mm, and 1.7 mm) for all the injury cases. The displacements induced by TA3 and TA2 were similar to those induced by TA5. TA4 led to larger displacements at the sacroiliac joint (2.3 mm, 2.4 mm, 4.8 mm, and 4.9 mm), and TA1 was the worst case (3.1 mm, 3.2 mm, 6.3 mm, and 6.5 mm). Conclusions The best internal fixation method for PRI is the triangular osteosynthesis approach (TA5), followed by S1 + S2 screw fixation (TA3), S1 screw fixation (TA2), and plate fixation (TA4). Drinks with higher dissolved oxygen concentrations have in recent times gained popularity as potential ergogenic aids, despite the lack of evidence regarding their efficacy. The aim of this study was to characterize oxygenated water and assess the improvement in uric acid metabolism while identifying performance enhancements in animals administered oxygenated water. Oxygenated water was characterized by hydrogen and oxygen nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Hyperuricemia in rats was induced by treatment with oxonic acid potassium salt, and the animals were given oxygenated drinking water before, during, or after oxonic acid treatment. Serum uric acid was measured to confirm the effects on uric acid metabolism. Following oxygenation, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) was reduced to 11.56 Hz and 64.16 Hz in the hydrogen and oxygen NMR spectra, respectively.
