The RNA-sequencing analysis revealed that iron changed colonic transcript profile, such as interferon gamma-signal transducer and activator of transcription two-based anti-infection gene network. Increasing iron also shifted colonic and cecal microbiota, such as reducing alpha diversity and the relative abundance of Clostridiales and Lactobacillus reuteri and increasing the relative abundance of Lactobacillus and Lactobacillus amylovorus. Collectively, this study demonstrated that high dietary iron increased diarrheal incidence, changed intestinal immune response-associated gene expression, and shifted gut microbiota. The results would enhance our knowledge of iron effects on the gut and microbiome in piglets and further contribute to understanding these aspects in humans. The development and application of whole genome sequencing technology has greatly broadened our horizons on the capabilities of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). LncRNAs are more than 200 nucleotides in length and lack protein-coding potential. Increasing evidence indicates that lncRNAs exert an irreplaceable role in tumor initiation, progression, as well as metastasis, and are novel molecular biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of cancer patients. Furthermore, lncRNAs and the pathways they influence might represent promising therapeutic targets for a number of tumors. Here, we discuss the recent advances in understanding of the specific regulatory mechanisms of lncRNAs. We focused on the signal, decoy, guide, and scaffold functions of lncRNAs at the epigenetic, transcription, and post-transcription levels in cancer cells. read more Additionally, we summarize the research strategies used to investigate the roles of lncRNAs in tumors, including lncRNAs screening, lncRNAs characteristic analyses, functional studies, and molecular mechanisms of lncRNAs. This review will provide a short but comprehensive description of the lncRNA functions in tumor development and progression, thus accelerating the clinical implementation of lncRNAs as tumor biomarkers and therapeutic targets. The aim of this report is to present our experience of performing transurethral laser incision for management of ectopic ureter orifice stenosis in adult patient. A 61-year-old male was presented with right flank pain. Computed tomography urography showed right complete double collecting system, upper moiety hydroureteronephrosis, and parenchymal thinning of the upper moiety. Cystoscopy showed right ectopic ureter orifice on the prostatic part of the urethra. Transurethral laser incision was performed at the 12 o'clock position of the stenotic orifice with Thulium laser. This report showed that transurethral laser incision was a minimally invasive procedure with good result.Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is a small-vessel vasculitis, typically involving the skin, joints, kidneys, and gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Although GI bleeding with HSP can occur, massive GI hemorrhage is rare. It is well documented that HSP can be triggered by a preceding infection, often of the upper respiratory tract. Infections that occur after the development of HSP and trigger worsening of the disease or new complications have not been well reported. We present the case of a three-year-old previously healthy boy who developed HSP with typical signs and symptoms, including hematochezia that resolved after treatment with intravenous steroids. The patient then contracted norovirus and subsequently developed massive GI bleeding, leading to hemorrhagic shock and requiring admission to an intensive care unit. This case demonstrates that secondary infection, such as norovirus infection, can precipitate worsening of underlying HSP vasculitis and lead to acute clinical decompensation. Clinicians should be aware of the risk of acute clinical changes in patients with HSP.The synthesis of highly substituted hydroanthraquinone derivatives with up to three stereogenic centres via a Diels-Alder reaction, starting from easily accessible 2-substituted naphthoquinones, is described. The [4+2]-cycloaddition is applicable for a broad range of substrates, runs under mild conditions and results in high yields. The highly regioselective outcome of the reactions is enabled by a benzoyl substituent at C2 of the dienophiles. The obtained hydroanthraquinones can be further modified and represent ideal substrates for follow-up intramolecular coupling reactions to create unique bicyclo[3.3.1] or -[3.2.2]nonane ring systems which are important natural product skeletons.Effective interactions between plants and pollinators are essential for the reproduction of plant species. Pollinator exclusion experiments and pollen supplementation experiments quantify the degree to which plants depend on animal pollinators and the degree to which plant reproduction is pollen limited. Pollen supplementation experiments have been conducted across the globe, but are rare in high latitude regions. To fill this knowledge gap, we experimentally investigated the dependence on animal pollinators and magnitude of pollen limitation in eight plant species north of the Arctic Circle in Lapland, Finland. Our findings show that all plant species were pollinator dependent, but not pollen limited. We discuss several mechanisms that might buffer our focal plants from pollen limitation, including plant and pollinator generalization, and attractive plant traits. Our results demonstrate that many plant species north of the Arctic Circle are currently receiving adequate pollinator service and provide a baseline for future comparisons of pollinator dependence and pollen limitation in the Arctic across space and time.Anastomotic pseudoaneurysm and patch aneurysm are life-threatening complications following thoracoabdominal and descending thoracic aortic aneurysm (DTAA) repair. The aortic wall tissue is fragile in patients with Marfan syndrome, who are at high risk of anastomotic pseudoaneurysm and patch aneurysms. We experienced a rare case of ruptured pseudoaneurysm of the intercostal patch after DTAA repair in a patient with Marfan syndrome. A hematoma was separated from the pseudoaneurysm caused by adhesion of the left lung after DTAA repair, which made diagnosis difficult. To prevent type II endoleak and achieve thoracic endovascular aortic repair, we treated the patent intercostal arteries by embolization.
