We investigated whether the distribution, volume and 1-year evolution of white matter hyperintensities (WMH), one of these SVD features, relate to the extent and location of these infarcts, accounting for vascular risk factors. We used imaging and clinical data from all patients [n = 118, mean age 64.9 (SD 11.75) years old] who presented to a regional hospital with a lacunar stroke syndrome within the years 2010 and 2013 and consented to participate in a study of stroke mechanisms. All patients had a brain MRI scan at presentation, and 88 had another scan 12 months after. Acute lesions (i.e., recent small subcortical infarcts, RSSI) were identified in 79 patients and lacunes in 77. However, the mechanism remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the risks of embolism and assess the damage to chordae willisii (CW)-associated MT using a stent passing across the thrombus. A contrast-enhanced in vitro model was used to mimick MT in the SSS. The thrombus was removed with a stent. The emboli generated during the procedure were collected and measured. The residual thrombus area after the MT was measured by J Image software. The damage of CW was evaluated by an endoscope. Three procedural experiments were carried out on each cadaveric sample. The average numbers of visible emboli particles in experiments 1, 2, and 3 were 11.17 ± 2.17, 9.00 ± 2.07, and 5.00 ± 2.96, respectively. The number of large size particles produced by experiment 1 was significantly higher than that of the other experiments. The thrombus area measured after experiment 3 was larger than that of experiments 1 and 2. The number of minor damage cases to CW was 55 (90.16%), and there were six serious damage cases (9.84%). The use of stent resulted in no significant increase in damage to CW after the three experimental procedures. A large amount of thrombi particles was produced during MT, and multiple MT procedures on the same sample can increase residual thrombus area. The neuroimaging characteristics of the MdDS brain state have been investigated with studies on brain metabolism, structure, functional connectivity, and measurements of synchronicity. Baseline metabolism and resting-state functional connectivity studies indicate that a limbic focus in the left entorhinal cortex and amygdala may be important in the pathology of MdDS, as these structures are hypermetabolic in MdDS and exhibit increased functional connectivity to posterior sensory processing areas and reduced connectivity to the frontal and temporal cortices. Both structures are tunable with periodic stimulation, with neurons in the entorhinal cortex required for spatial navigation, acting as a critical efferent pathway to the hippocampus, and sending and receiving projections from much of the neocortex. We, here, set out to provide an open-source set of black and white object drawings, particularly suited for language mapping and monitoring, e.g., during awake brain tumour surgery or transcranial magnetic stimulation, in German language. A refined set of 100 black and white drawings was tested in two consecutive runs of randomised picture order and was analysed in respect of correct, prompt, and reliable object recognition and naming in a series of 132 healthy subjects between 18 and 84 years (median 25 years, 64% females) and a clinical pilot cohort of 10 brain tumour patients (median age 47 years, 80% males). The influence of important word- and subject-related factors on task performance and reliability was investigated.
