Thermo-mechanical fractional injury (TMFI) therapy (Tixel®; Novoxel®, Netanya, Israel) is an innovative technology. Along with its drug delivery enhancement features, it is widely used for facial skin rejuvenation. Our study explores the beneficial effect of the Tixel® on the different features of facial skin rejuvenation along with patients' satisfaction rate, aiming to suggest practical recommendations for an optimal aesthetic result.
A retrospective chart review of 24 patients (20 women, 4 men, average age 56 years old) with skin types II-V who received 2 or 3 Tixel® treatments, 3-5 weeks apart in two medical centers (12 from Israel, 12 from the United Kingdom). Four experienced dermatologists compared standardized clinical photographs taken before each treatment and 3 months after the final treatment based on seven parameters that were set by 10 physicians and rated the difference on a scale of -1 to 4. Furthermore, epidemiology, treatment data, satisfaction, and safety were reviewed.
Out of the seven parameters that were compared (blood vessels and erythema, skin complexion, periorbital wrinkles, pigmentation and toning, pore size, vitality, wrinkles, and laxity), all features demonstrated an overall improvement, with the greatest improvement demonstrated in skin complexion (2.1 ± 0.49) and periorbital wrinkling (2.09 ± 0.65) followed by vitality (1.7 ± 0.49). Side effects were transient, including erythema and hyperpigmentation, and the average downtime was 1.7 days.
TMFI is a safe and effective method forimproving facial skin quality. Addressing patient's expectations while maximizing the benefits of this novel technology will provide superior aesthetical results.

The link between brain function and cardiovascular dynamics is an important issue yet to be elucidated completely. The insula is a neocortical brain area that is thought to have a cardiac chronotropic regulatory function, but its role in cardiac contractility is unknown. We aimed to analyze the variability in heart rate and cardiac contractility after functional activation of different insular regions through direct electrical stimulation (E-stim) in humans.
This was an observational, prospective study, including patients admitted for stereo-electroencephalographic recording because of refractory epilepsy, in whom the insular cortex was implanted. Patients with anatomical or electrophysiological insular abnormalities and those in whom E-stim produced subjective symptoms were excluded. Variations in heart rate (HR), stroke volume (SV), and cardiac output (CO) were analyzed during insular E-stim and compared with control E-stim of non-eloquent brain regions and sham stimulations.

Chronic non-cancer pain, which persists for at least three months, seriously affects quality of life. Chronic non-cancer pain patients are usually managed by a multidisciplinary team using pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies. Nurses perform transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and hypnosis, which are widely used in France for the treatment of chronic pain in pain departments.
To assess pain relief at three months, comparing a simultaneous combination of hypnosis and TENS (intervention) with TENS alone (control).

Patients aged 18-80years, suffering from chronic peripheral neuropathic and/or nociceptive non-cancer pain were included (September 2013 to May 2017) and followed for six months. The primary outcome was the pain intensity difference (by visual analog scale score) between month 3 and baseline. The secondary outcomes, assessed at months 3 and 6, were SF36 score, analgesics consumption and number of TENS sessions performed at home (last seic non-cancer pain patients. The combination of the two non-pharmacological strategies did not appear to be more efficient than one alone. Further research on non-pharmacological treatments targeting to patient's characteristics are needed to find appropriate strategies in patients with complex multidimensional pain conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the seroprevalence of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection using the serologic status of CMV IgG and IgM antibodies in Korean women of childbearing age.
We retrospectively reviewed CMV IgG and IgM test results from Korean women aged 15-49years who underwent testing between January 2009 and December 2019. Seroprevalence of CMV IgG and IgM by year and age was investigated.
The study period was 11years, and among 6837 samples tested, 95.8% were CMV IgG-positive. The seropositivity in women aged 15- <20years was significantly lower (77.5%) than older age groups. Among 6837 total CMV IgG tests, 75.9% (5186) had concurrently measured CMV IgM results among which 2.4% were IgM-positive.
Considering the low CMV seropositivity of women younger than 20years, they may need prenatal education for CMV infection.

This study aimed at providing evidence-based information on immunity against Yellow Fever with a view to assessing the possibility of the recent epidemics persisting in Nigeria. Six hundred patients with febrile illness seeking malaria test in selected hospitals were tested for YFV antibody using three serological assays ELISA IgM, microneutralization test (MNT) and plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT). The three assays commonly detected YFV antibody (Ab) in 1.7% patients, MNT IgM in 8.3%, IgM PRNT in 7.1%, and MNT PRNT in 3.2%. Immunity against YF was significantly higher in Bauchi and Borno than Adamawa and children aged 0-9 years compared to 20-29 years. YFV neutralizing antibody (nAb) strongly correlated with the vaccination status of the patients. More unvaccinated patients had nAb compared with the vaccinated. Immunity against YF among treated patients with antibiotic and/or antimalaria before sample collection inversely correlated with the untreated.
