The Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1) virion contains a conical shell, termed capsid, encasing the viral RNA genome. After cellular entry of the virion, the capsid is released and ensures the protection and delivery of the HIV-1 genome to the host nucleus for integration. The capsid relies on many virus-host factor interactions which are regulated spatiotemporally throughout the course of infection. In this paper, we will review the current understanding of the highly dynamic HIV-1 capsid-host interplay during the early stages of viral replication, namely intracellular capsid trafficking after viral fusion, nuclear import, uncoating, and integration of the viral genome into host chromatin. Better structural and mechanistic insights into the capsid-host factor interactions will significantly inform the understanding of HIV-1 pathogenesis and the development of capsid-centric antiretroviral therapeutics.Work disability may originate early during work history and involve sickness absences (SA) and eventually permanent disability. We studied this process over 15 years. Questionnaire data collected in 1981 on health, working conditions, and lifestyle of Finnish municipal employees aged 44-58 years (n = 6257) were linked with registers on SA (≥10 workdays), disability pension, and death from the period 1986-1995. Trajectory analysis was used to assess development in SA (days/year) over 5 years (1981-1985). We analyzed determinants of the trajectories with multinomial regression, while trajectory membership was used as a predictor of disability pension (DP) during the subsequent 10 years in survival analysis. Three SA trajectories emerged increasing (women 6.8%; men 10.2%), moderate (21.2%; 22.7%), and low. In a mutually adjusted model, the increasing trajectory in women was associated with baseline musculoskeletal (MSD), mental and respiratory disorders, injuries, obesity, sleep problems, and low exercise (effect sizes OR > 2), and in men with MSD, sleep problems, smoking, low exercise, and non-satisfaction with management. The moderate trajectory associated with MSD, 'other somatic disorders', sleep problems, and awkward work postures in both genders; in women, also overweight, cardiovascular and respiratory morbidity, and (inversely) knowledge-intensive work, and in men, smoking and mental disorders were thus associated. Ten-year risks of DP contrasting increasing vs. low SA were more than 10-fold in both genders and contrasting moderate vs. low SA 3-fold in women and 2-fold in men. These findings emphasize the need for early identification of workers with short-term problems of work ability and interventions regarding lifestyle, health, and working conditions, to help prevent permanent disability.There is a high unmet medical need for child-appropriate oral dosage forms. The acceptability of a novel placebo orally dispersible tablet formulation (pODT) was therefore evaluated. Monolithic tablets contain an inorganic calcium carbonate/calcium phosphate carrier material as the main excipient. They were assessed in a cross-sectional acceptability study. The 40 child participants were between 2 to 5 years and 6 to 10 years old. One pODT with 5 mm diameter was administered to each participating child by placement on the tongue or into the buccal cavity. Parents were asked to complete a questionnaire together with the study personnel. The spontaneous reactions of the children were recorded. The ease of administration and children's acceptance of the tablet was rated by research staff on a 4-point acceptability scale and by parents on a 5-point Likert scale. The older subjects answered how they had liked the pODT by pointing to the appropriate face of a Facial Hedonic Scale. pODT had very high acceptability as 93% of parents, and all questioned children reported the formulation to be acceptable or very acceptable. Staff reported administering pODT in these children without problems. None of the children showed distress on receipt of pODT. We conclude that the proposed child-friendly dosage form provides a convenient option for oral drug administration and is expected to enhance drug-adherence in pediatric patients.Poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) has been investigated as an ion-conductive matrix for several decades due to its excellent properties. However, further improvements are needed to enable a PEO-based ion-conductive matrix for practical applications. In order to develop novel solid polymer electrolytes based on zwitterions, we synthesized diblock copolymers (PPEGMA-b-SPBs) with oligoether and zwitterionic side-chains and evaluated their physico-chemical properties. PPEGMA-b-SPBs with various unit ratios were synthesized by RAFT polymerization. PPEGMA-b-SPBs with/without LiTFSA exhibited two distinct glass transition temperatures regardless of the unit ratio of PEGMA and SPB. AFM observations clearly revealed phase-separated structures. The ionic conductivity of PPEGMA-b-SPBs increased even at a high salt concentrations such as [EO][Li] = 61 and was over 10-5 S cm-1 at 25 °C. This tendency is unusual in a PEO matrix. The oxidation stability of PPEGMA-b-SPBs was about 5.0 V vs. Li/Li+, which is a higher value than that of PEO. The improvement of the electrochemical properties is attributed to the introduction of the SPB block into the block copolymers. PPEGMA-b-SPBs were evaluated as cathode-coating materials for Li batteries. The discharge capacity and coulombic efficiency of the cells employing the cathode (LiNi1/3Mn1/3Co1/3O2 (NMC)) coated with the block copolymers were much higher than those of the cell employing the pristine cathode at the 50th cycle in the cut-off voltage range of 3.0-4.6 V.
