On the contrary, ventricular strips at 30°C were able to sustain the cardiac contractility at higher pacing frequencies (from 12 to 144 bpm) due to an important role of Na+ /Ca2+ exchanger in Ca2+ cycling, as indicated by the decay of the post-rest contraction, and a significant contribution of the sarcoplasmic reticulum above 72 bpm. Our results demonstrated that the myocardium of postprandial caimans exhibits a significant degree of thermal plasticity of E-C coupling during acute warming. Therefore, myocardial contractility can be maximized when postprandial broad-snouted caimans select higher body temperatures (preferred temperature zone) following feeding.
Recent studies have indicated that a high-fat diet (HFD) and/or HFD-induced obesity may influence prostate cancer (PCa) progression, but the role of HFD in PCa microenvironment is unclear. This study aimed to delineate the molecular mechanisms of PCa progression under HFD milieus and define the stromal microenvironment focusing on macrophage inhibitory cytokine-1 (MIC-1) activation.
We investigated the effects of HFD on PCa stromal microenvironment and MIC-1 signaling activation using PC-3M-luc-C6 PCa model mice fed with HFD or control diet. Further, we explored the effect of periprostatic adipocytes derived from primary PCa patients on activation and cytokine secretion of prostate stromal fibroblasts. Expression patterns and roles of MIC-1 signaling on human PCa stroma activation and progression were also investigated.
HFD stimulated PCa cell growth and invasion as a result of upregulated MIC-1 signaling and subsequently increased the secretion of interleukin (IL)-8 and IL-6 from prostate stromal fibro through metabolically upregulated MIC-1 signaling by increased available free fatty acids may be a critical mechanism of HFD and/or obesity-induced PCa progression.
The consolidation of short-term memories into long-term memories is promoted by associations with novel environmental stimuli. This phenomenon is known as behavioral tagging. Neuropsin, a plasticity-related serine protease in the hippocampus and amygdala, is involved in memory formation. This study investigated how neuropsin affects associative long-term memory.
Short-term and long-term memory were assessed in control and neuropsin-deficient mice by investigating their performance in inhibitory avoidance and spatial object recognition tasks. The effect of exposure to novelty on the conversion of short-term memory to associative long-term memory was also examined.

Currently, inflammation of tissue around implants is diagnosed as either periimplant mucositis or periimplantitis, and the etiology is bacterial biofilm colonization of the implant and its transmucosal component. The purpose of this manuscript is to report a case of "periimplant mucositis" secondary to infection of a residual bone allograft embedded in the periimplant sulcus of a patient with diabetes.
A #8 implant was placed and provisionalized in a 46-year-old male patient. During implant placement, facial contour augmentation with an allograft (1000-2000 μm), a collagen membrane, and a connective tissue graft was performed. Healing was uneventful. The crown was removed 9 months after implant placement; a graft particulate was observed in the periimplant sulcus and left undisturbed. The subgingival contour of the crown was adjusted, and the crown was reseated. The patient subsequently developed soreness and foul smell at #8. The crown was removed, and the previously observed graft particulate was more exposed and contaminated. It was removed and the crown was reseated. A month later, symptoms persisted. Palpation produced suppuration. A facial flap was reflected, and residual graft particulates embedded in the facial flap were removed. The site was grafted with a connective tissue graft. Subsequently, symptoms resolved, and the implant was restored.
Within the limitation of this case report, it appears residual graft materials can get infected once exposed to the oral cavity and subsequently induce an inflammatory response in the surrounding tissue, especially in a patient with hyperglycemia.

The accuracy of diagnoses of acute invasive fungal rhinosinusitis (AIFRS) based on frozen sections has been questioned.
PubMed, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, Web of Science, SCOPUS, and Google Scholar were used for data sources. True-positive, true-negative, false-positive, and false-negative data were extracted for each study. Methodological quality was evaluated using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies 2 (QUADAS-2) Tool.
Nine prospective and retrospective studies were included. The diagnostic odds ratio of intraoperative frozen section in AIFRS was 124.4717 (95% confidence interval [CI], 75.5168-205.1623). The area under the summary receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.906. The sensitivity, specificity, and positive predictive value were 0.8337 (95% CI, 0.7962-0.8655), 0.9858 (95% CI, 0.9330-0.9971), and 0.9822 (95% CI, 0.8905-0.9973), respectively. The correlation between sensitivity and the false-positive rate was 0.437, indicating a lack of heterogeneity. In subgroup analysis, the "per patient" subgroup tended to show higher diagnostic accuracy than the "per specimen" subgroup. Positive frozen sections are reliable and facilitate early intervention in AIFRS. Collecting multiple specimens during surgery will decrease the rate of false-negative results.
