Hyperventilation was the most effective activation method, followed by cognitive activation tasks and photic stimulation. The provocative effects of verbal and arithmetic tasks were comparable to those of photic stimulation.
Cognitive tasks might activate the IEDs in patients reporting cognitive functions as a seizure trigger, particularly in IGE. Brief and standardized cognitive activation tasks should be developed and applied as a method of activation during standard-awake EEG recordings to increase the diagnostic yield of EEG.

To compare cartilage grafting outcomes in intermediate versus definitive cleft rhinoplasty.
A retrospective chart review was conducted. The χ
and Fisher exact tests were used for statistical analyses. Results were considered statistically significant at
< .05.
All subjects who underwent revision cleft rhinoplasties between July 2011 and June 2019 were included. Subjects with syndromic conditions were excluded.
A total of 46 subjects with a cleft nose deformity underwent 65 rhinoplasty procedures. The ages averaged 17 years (range 5-50) with 34 (73.9%) males and 12 (26.1%) females. In the intermediate group, 6 (28.6%) subjects required cartilage grafting as part of 6 cleft rhinoplasties, whereas 15 (71.4%) subjects underwent a total of 26 cleft rhinoplasties that did not require grafting. In the definitive group, 18 (76%) subjects required cartilage grafting over 21 cleft rhinoplasties, whereas 7 (24%) subjects underwent a total of 9 cleft rhinoplasties where cartilage grafting was not required. The difference between the number of subjects requiring cartilage grafting in the intermediate versus the definitive group was statistically significant (
= .007). Ear concha and nose were the most frequently used cartilage donor sites, with no observed complications.
Cartilage grafting was significantly more common in the definitive rhinoplasty group. Intermediate cleft rhinoplasty during the 5- to 13-year age period was effective, with a low-risk profile. In our experience, ear concha and nose were the preferred cartilage donor sites, with effective results and an excellent safety profile.

This tumor forms in children with a genetic condition called neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), causing tumors to grow on nerves. In normal conditions, glial cells are there to support and protect nerve cells but, in NF1-OPG, glial cells have a genetic defect and grow out of control forming a tumor called a glioma. There are no rat models of NF1-OPG that can be used to explore various treatment options, and mouse models make interventional studies difficult due to their small eye size. We have created a model in which to study the progression of tumor growth in the optic nerve and establish the anatomical and functional consequences of the model and determine its suitability to serve as a surrogate for human disease. C6 rat glioma cells were injected into the optic nerve of Long-Evans rats and allowed to proliferate for 2 weeks. The eye clearly showed proptosis and lens opacity was observed, likely due to increased intraocular pressure caused by growing tumors. Hematoxylin-eosin staining showed marked cellularity, with hyperchromatism and pleomorphism. There was prominent area of necrosis with neoplastic cells palisading around the penumbra. Immunostaining with markers such as S100, β-tubulin III, Foxp3, CD45, Vimentin, and Ki67 confirmed low-grade tumor formation, with a mild immune response. Our results show the utility of a surgically induced rat model of OPG that may be used for exploring various treatment options for NF1 ocular tumors.Previous research on non-facial features demonstrated that masculinity and femininity correlated highly with perceived competence and warmth, respectively. Several studies focused on dimorphic facial cues and found an association between masculine faces and competence. However, there's no study exploring the association between facial dimorphism and social judgment both using explicit and implicit experimental paradigms, i.e. Triad Classification Task, Implicit Associate Task. This study examined the association of masculinity/femininity and competence/warmth via explicit and implicit measures in three experiments. The results showed that participants saw feminine/masculine faces as more consistent with warmth/competence for both male and female faces. Besides, it was found that the above associations were more obvious in female participants. The current studies extended research of effects of dimorphic facial cue in social judgment and provided direct evidence linking facial masculinity with perceived competence, and facial femininity with perceived warmth.Saffron (Crocus sativus L.) is used as a spice for its organoleptic characteristics related to its coloring and flavoring properties, and it has been also used in traditional medicine to treat various diseases. The main chemical components responsible for these properties are crocin, crocetin and safranal. These compounds have been shown to have a wide spectrum of biological activities, including several properties as antigenotoxic, antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antiatherosclerotic, antidiabetic, hypotensive, hypoglycemic, antihyperlipidemic, antidegenerative and antidepressant, among others. This review article highlights the antioxidant effects of these bioactive compounds to reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the mechanisms of action involved, since there are a multitude of diseases related to oxidative stress and the generation of free radicals (FRs). Recent studies have shown that the effects of crocin, crocetin and safranal against oxidative stress include the reduction in lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde [MDA] levels) and nitric oxide (NO) levels, and the increase in the levels of glutathione, antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase [SOD], catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase [GPx]) and thiol content. Therefore, due to the great antioxidant effects of these saffron compounds, it makes saffron a potential source of bioactive extracts for the development of bioactive ingredients, which can be used to produce functional foods.Pierre Robin sequence (PRS) is a rare congenital abnormality that may be classified as a first branchial arch syndrome. Patients with PRS who present with cleft palate have a deformity to the soft or hard palate of the maxilla that is repaired within the first year of birth. Despite the repair, patients may experience oronasal complications. Surgical repair is usually necessary if palatal fistula presents, and prosthetic obturators are used to provide temporary relief prior to surgery. This case report outlines the steps in the successful fabrication of a custom-fitted temporary vacuum-formed prosthetic obturator using computer-aided design technology to provide a more comfortable and effective treatment option for the patient.Multidisciplinary care in the era of COVID mitigation presented a unique opportunity to evolve a multidisciplinary Telehealth experience at the Children's Hospital Colorado. We describe our experience in developing unique programming to remain in compliance with an experience as recommended by the Parameters of Care while integrating information technology accessible via the electronic health record, multimedia adjuncts, and the integration of multiple institutional participants in creating a platform to offer care via Telehealth. Visit structure, planning, implementation, and advantages and disadvantages of the programming are discussed.
The study aim was to evaluate the histological relationship between osteoarthritis (OA) and articular cartilage in disuse atrophy induced by hindlimb unloading in a post-traumatic OA rat model.
Forty male rats were divided into the 4 following experimental groups control, hindlimb suspension (HS), OA induced by destabilization of the medial meniscus (OA), and OA induction after hindlimb suspension (HS-OA). Histological changes in the articular cartilage of the tibia were evaluated by the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) scores and histomorphometrical analyses at 2, 4, and 8 weeks after OA induction.
We confirmed that disuse atrophy of the articular cartilage was caused by thinning of the articular cartilage and the decrease in matrix staining for the nonloading period of 4 weeks. The OARSI scores and histomorphological analyses revealed that OA progressed significantly wider and deeper in the HS-OA group than in the OA group over time. In the sham group, disuse atrophy of the articular cartilage recovered at 2 weeks after reloading.
This study revealed that OA progressed faster in cartilage atrophy than in normal articular cartilage. Further studies are required for investigating the mechanisms of disuse atrophy of cartilage and its association with OA using the biochemical and immunohistochemical analysis.

This study compared the analytical performance of the Elecsys 602 (Roche Diagnostics) system with the I2000 (Abbott laboratories) system for the quantitative measurement of squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCCA) to assess its role as an indicator in pan squamous cell carcinoma.
435 serum samples included pan squamous cell cancer group (n = 318) and healthy subjects (n = 52) and non-squamous cell group (n = 41) and benign diseases group (n = 24) were measured by 2 systems and compared.
The within-run precision coefficient of variation (CV) for Abbott and Roche systems were 3.34-4.88% and 0.95 -1.96%, and the total precision CV were 2.89-9.48% and 3.97-5.38%, respectively. Good correlation was showed in Abbott and Roche systems (slopes = 0.749, r = 0.9658). Serum SCCA in the groups of nasopharyngeal carcinomas, lung squamous cell carcinoma, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, bladder cancer and cervical squamous cell carcinoma under the curve area (AUC) was more than 0.5, while the AUC in the non- nasophaere individual differences. Serum SCCA may also contribute to the diagnosis of bladder cancer.Poor sleep quality affects university students' life and increases their risk of long-term health consequences. This study aimed to describe the quality of sleep among Jordanian university students, examine differences in sleep quality according to selected variables, and identify predictors of sleep quality. A cross-sectional correlational design and a multi-strategic sampling technique were used to select a sample of 1,308 university students. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Perceived Stress Scale, and the Sleep Hygiene Instrument were administered to the subjects. T-test, ANOVA, and multiple regressions were used to analyze the data. The results showed that most students were classified as poor sleepers (87.1%), and only (12.8%) reported having a good sleep quality. Among the components of sleep quality, subjective sleep quality (m = 1.90, SD = 0.89) and daytime dysfunction (m = 1.72, SD = 0.67) had the highest mean scores, while sleep efficiency (m = 0.50, SD = 0.91) and the use of sleep medications (m = 0.
