Phase diagrams, thermal stabilities and the mechanism of thermal decomposition are reported, along with densities and insights from 31P NMR spectroscopic studies. The work was concluded with a proof-of-concept demonstration of the use of the TOPOmalonic acid (2 1 mol ratio) mixture for the extraction of gallium from acidic chloride feedstock (simulated pre-digestate of zinc leach residue). The loading capacity of the TOPOmalonic acid extractant was three orders of magnitude greater than that of the literature benchmark, encouraging further application-oriented studies.Intimate partner violence (IPV) literature addresses the ways in which women oppose violent male partners through acts of "everyday resistance." There is a limited understanding, however, of the relationship between women's resistance and their formal help-seeking in the context of IPV. Our scoping review, which includes 74 articles published in English-language journals between 1994 and 2017, attempts to help fill this gap by developing systematic knowledge regarding the following research questions (1) How are formal institutional responses discussed within the literature on resistance to IPV? (2) How does institutional help-seeking facilitate or obstruct IPV survivors' personal efforts to resist violence? We find that institutions and organizations succeed in facilitating resistance processes when they counter victim-blaming ideas and provide IPV survivors with shared community and a sense of control over their futures. However, they fall short in terms of helping survivors by expecting survivors to adhere to a rigid narrative about appropriate responses to violence, devoting insufficient attention to individual-level factors impacting survivors' vulnerability and ability to access help, and replicating abuse dynamics when interacting with survivors. Policy and practice implications are discussed.Pinocembrin derived flavones are the major bioactive compounds presented in the Lamiaceae plants that have long been of interest due to their great pharmaceutical and economical significance. Modifications on the central skeleton of the flavone moiety have a huge impact on their biological activities. However, the enzymes responsible for structure modification of most flavones are either inefficient or remain unidentified. By integrating omics analysis of Scutellaria barbata and synthetic biology tools in yeast chassis, we characterized a novel gene encoding flavone 7-O-methyltransferase (F7OMT) and discovered a new flavone 8-hydroxylase (F8H) with increased activity. We also identified a series of flavone 6-hydroxylases (F6Hs) and flavone 8-O-methyltransferases (F8OMTs) in this study. Subsequently, we constructed the biosynthetic pathway for chrysin production by assembling catalytic elements from different species and improved the titer to 10.06 mg/L. Using the established chrysin production platform, we achieved the de novo biosynthesis of baicalein, baicalin, norwogonin, wogonin, isowogonin, and moslosooflavone in yeast. Our results indicated that the combination of omics and synthetic biology can greatly speed up the efficiency of gene mining in plants and the engineered yeasts established an alternative way for the production of pinocembrin derivatives.We performed a systematic review of the current literature addressing the safety and efficacy of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) in cancer patients. In this systematic review, the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were used. In vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies, which investigated the effect of PBMT on cell proliferation/differentiation, tumor growth, recurrence rate, and/or overall survival were included. The Medline/PubMed, EMBASE, and Scopus databases were searched through April 2020. A total of 67 studies met the inclusion criteria with 43 in vitro, 15 in vivo, and 9 clinical studies identified. In vitro studies investigating the effect of PBMT on a diverse range of cancer cell lines demonstrated conflicting results. This could be due to the differences in used parameters and the frequency of PBM applications. In vivo studies and clinical trials with a follow-up period demonstrated that PBMT is safe with regards to tumor growth and patient advantage in the prevention and treatment of specific cancer therapy-related complications. Current human studies, supported by most animal studies, show safety with PBMT using currently recommended clinical parameters, including in Head & Neck cancer (HNC) in the area of PBMT exposure. A significant and growing literature indicates that PBMT is safe and effective, and may even offer a benefit in patient overall survival. Nevertheless, continuing research is indicated to improve understanding and provide further elucidation of remaining questions regarding PBM use in oncology.
This study investigated relationships among acculturation, sociodemographic, and health characteristics of adult U.S. immigrants and cardiovascular disease.
Secondary data analysis using population data from 1,945immigrant participants in the 2017 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS).
Acculturation was measured using citizenship status, number of years in the U.S., and English language proficiency. Chi-square tests and multiple logistic regression modeling were utilized.
Approximately 4.3% of the study sample had cardiovascular disease. Compared to immigrants without U.S. citizenship, significantly higher proportion of immigrants with U.S. citizenship had cardiovascular disease (6.2% vs. see more 1.7%, p<.001). In the multivariable-adjusted model, compared to non-citizen immigrants, odds of cardiovascular disease were higher in immigrants with U.S. citizenship (odds ratio 3.80, 95% confidence interval 1.91, 7.56).
Acculturation factors, specifically U.S. citizenship, along with sociodemographic and health risk factors were associated with increased odds of cardiovascular disease among immigrants. This study builds upon previous findings demonstrating increased acculturation including U.S. citizenship in immigrant populations is associated with increased odds of cardiovascular disease. These findings inform public health specialists and clinicians of factors to consider for cardiovascular disease risk in immigrants as they adapt to their host country.
