These 6 catchments typically had the lowest connectivity scores for diadromous species and ranged between 0.6 and 44.1 (a fully connected river would receive a maximum score of 100). While there was no significant correlation between obstacle density and the DCI score for diadromous fish, a significant negative correlation was detected between obstacle density and the DCI score for potamodromous brown trout. Here, we highlight the merit of these obstacle assessments and associated challenges for decision-making relating to prioritisation of obstacles for removal or modification. The level of commitment among farmers and veterinarians may have a significant influence on the effectiveness of control efforts against tuberculosis in cattle (bTB), facilitating or hindering the achievement of its eradication. In this study, we investigated the opinions and attitudes of farmers and veterinarians towards the bTB eradication programme in Spain. Our aim was to assess the existence of groups of people that share the same arguments and outline their characteristic features. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire using a telephone survey in a random sample of 706 farmers and 180 veterinarians. The relationships between the variables and individuals were explored by using Multiple Correspondence Analysis. Afterwards, we applied Hierarchical Clustering on Principal Components in order to identify and characterise the opinion profiles. We identified three different groups of opinions characterised by the attitude towards bTB diagnostic tests, the perception on the importance and the zon the role of wildlife reservoirs, the uncertainty of ante-mortem tests results, as well as the beliefs on the importance of bTB. The aims of this prospective and descriptive study were to (a) characterize treatment profile and quantify antimicrobial consumption for treatment of clinical mastitis (CM) in dairy herds of Brazil; and, (b) determine the association of antimicrobial use (AMU) for treatment of CM and herd-level descriptors, such as herd size, average milk yield, bulk milk somatic cell count (BMSCC), bulk milk total bacterial count (BMTBC), season and housing type. Data on treatment practices were obtained from 19 of 20 dairy herds selected for the study for a period of 12 months per herd. Treatment protocols were recorded in each case of CM by the farm personnel using a form that included information at the cow- and treatment-level. The frequency of antimicrobial consumption for treatment of CM was determined monthly in units of defined daily dose (DDD) and expressed as antimicrobial treatment incidence (ATI; the number of DDD per 1,000 lactating cow-days). Mixed linear regression models were used to determine the association highest BMSCC. In addition, a higher AMU for treatment of CM was observed during the rainy season compared to the dry season in Brazil. This seasonal effect was mostly characteristic in herds housing cows in outdoor housing systems (i.e., paddocks). Vernicia montana Lour. (tung tree) is an oil-producing plant with multiple uses, especially with its great potential in biodiesel production, which was a small Asian tree of the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae) with big economic values. However, studies on small molecular compositions of V. montana are limited. As a result, seven new lignans and one new coumacrin, and 21 known lignans, were isolated from the testas of V. montana. These isolates were confirmed in the light of spectroscopic tools (containing 1D and 2D NMR), ECD spectra methods. These isolates and crude extracts were evaluated their inhibitory activities using LPS-induced BV2 cells by assessing the NO production. Among them, compounds 3, 5, 6, 22 displayed significant effects, IC50 values about 11.4-20.9 μM. Together, the results demonstrated that lignans might be potential neuroinflammatory inhibitors. BACKGROUND Previous studies have established links between poor sleep and negative developmental outcomes. However, it remains unclear whether young maltreated children demonstrate atypical sleep patterns and whether sleep duration is associated with emotional and behavioral problems. OBJECTIVE Explore trajectories of sleep among Child Protective Services (CPS)-referred children and examine whether sleep duration is significantly associated with externalizing and internalizing symptoms, even when controlling for the home environment. PARTICIPANTS Participants included 197 children (Mage at first assessment = 10.24 months, SD = 6.39) whose parents were referred to CPS due to allegations of maltreatment. METHODS Parents completed sleep diaries for their children at up to five time-points and the preschool version of the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) when children were approximately 2 years of age (Mage = 26.40 months, SD = 3.36). The Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment Scale (HOME) assessed thal outcomes. BACKGROUND The third Netherlands' Prevalence study of Maltreatment of children and youth (NPM-2017) continues the tradition of periodically mapping the national prevalence of child maltreatment. OBJECTIVE The NPM-2017 provides an update of the current prevalence rates of child maltreatment and of changes in its prevalence over the last 12 years. In addition, risk factors for child maltreatment and its co-occurrence with domestic violence were investigated. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING Prevalence data were based on cases reported to 'Safe at Home' organizations (former CPS agencies) and observations of professionals working with children (sentinels). METHODS Sentinels (N = 785) filled out a form for each case of suspected child maltreatment that they observed within their professional sample during a three-month period. RESULTS An overall prevalence estimate of child maltreatment in the Netherlands in 2017 of 26-37 per 1000 children was computed. The most important risk factors for child maltreatment were low parental education (RR=4.95), parental unemployment (RR = 3.64), immigrant status (RR = 3.61), and single parenthood (RR = 2.29). Neither prevalence rates nor risk factors changed significantly between 2005, 2010, and 2017. Finally, in 46 % of the reported families child maltreatment occurred in a context of domestic violence. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of co-occurring domestic violence may indicate that family violence observed within one dyad could be a marker for dysfunctional functioning of the family system. Child maltreatment remains a considerable problem in the Netherlands with a stable prevalence over the last 12 years and stability in characteristics that make families vulnerable for child maltreatment. INTRODUCTION Sexual health disparities are leading causes of morbidity among youth of color in the United States. We conducted a scoping review of the literature on precursors to sexual risk-taking among young adolescents of color (ages 10-14) to assess precedents of sexual experience and their utility as measurable proximal constructs and behaviors gauging sexual risk and sexual risk prevention efforts. METHODS This study was conducted using the PRISMA extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines. We searched for quantitative studies that assessed the relationships between precursors and subsequent sexual behaviors, incorporated youth of color, and specified young adolescents as the study sample. All articles were in English, however we explored both U.S. and International databases. RESULTS The database search yielded 11 studies published between 2000 and 2017. Most literature focused on youth in urban settings, and on Black and Latinx youth, while only two addressed the special circumstances of American Indian and Alaska Native youth. Sex expectancies outcomes for youth of color were likely to predict sexual risk taking and self-efficacy about sex was related to abstinence. CONCLUSIONS Etiologic studies that seek to understand precursors to sexual risk taking among youth of color are limited and this paucity truncates the ability to develop sexual risk prevention programs for the age group in which prevention is most needed. The epithelial ovarian cancer is one of the most lethal gynecological malignancy due to its late diagnostic and many relapses observed after first line of treatment. Once diagnose, the most important prognostic factor is the completeness of cytoreductive surgery. To achieve this goal, surgeons have to pinpoint and remove nodules, especially the smallest nodules. Recent advances in fluorescence-guided surgery led us to develop a recombinant lectin as a nanoprobe for the microscopic detection of nodules in the peritoneal cavity of tumor-bearing mice. This lectin has an intrinsic specificity for a carcinoma-associated glycan biomarker, the Thomsen-Friedenreich antigen. In this study, after its labelling by a near infrared dye, we first demonstrated that this nanoprobe allowed indirect detection of nodules already implanted in the peritoneal cavity, through tumor microenvironment targeting. Secondly, in a protocol mimicking the scattering of cells during surgery, we obtained a direct and long-lasting detection of tumor cells in vivo. This lectin as already been described as a nanocontainer able to do targeted delivery of a therapeutic compound to carcinoma cells. Future developments will focus on the combination of the nanoprobe and nanocontainer aspects in an intraperitoneal nanotheranostic approach. To determine the role of 3, 3', 5-triiodo-L thyroxine (T3) in the differentiation of Sertoli cells (SCs) and the factors influencing maturity via the Wilms' tumor 1 (WT1)/non-canonical Wnt signaling pathway, high purity SCs were isolated from newborn calves' testes and cultured in vitro. The SCs were stimulated with T3, and co-treated with short interference (si) RNA to knockdown endogenous WT1 and non-canonical Wnt signalling inhibitor Wnt-c59. Our results suggested that the addition of different concentrations (0, 25, 50, and 100 nM) of T3 in the culture medium changed the expression of KRT-18 (SCs immature marker) and accelerated the differentiation of SCs. T3 (100 nM) treatment induced up-regulated expression of WT1 over time (p less then 0.05), while the expression of polarity proteins (Par3, Par6b, and E-cadherin) and Wnt4 were affected to varying degrees (p less then 0.05). SCs were treated simultaneously with T3 + Wnt-c59 and T3 + WT1 siRNA, and the results showed that T3 could affect the expression of polarity proteins via WT1/non-canonical Wnt signaling pathway. These data put together indicate that T3 plays a dependent role in the induction of bovine SCs differentiation via WT1/non-canonical Wnt signaling pathway in vitro. This study proposes for the first time that WT1 is a major target for T3. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of bovine nerve growth factor-β (NGF) on pre-ovulatory follicle vascular area, LH release, ovulation, and luteal function when administered systemically to heifers. Trichostatin A cell line Post-pubertal Holstein heifers (n = 12) received an intravaginal progesterone-releasing device (CIDR) and GnRH agonist (100 μg IM). The CIDR was removed 5 d later, and heifers were given dinoprost (25 mg IM) at CIDR removal and 24 h later, followed by a second dose of GnRH agonist 48 h later. Heifers were randomly assigned to treatments using a cross-over design. For example, heifers assigned to NGF (250 μg reconstituted in 12 mL PBS IM) in replicate 1 were assigned to control (12 mL PBS IM) in replicate 2. Transrectal ultrasonography was performed before treatment and repeated every 4 h up to 32 h to determine the pre-ovulatory follicle diameter, vascular area, and ovulation. Serum samples were obtained to assess LH concentrations during the periovulatory period and every 2 d post-ovulation for measuring progesterone concentrations.
