To eliminate soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections as a public health problem, the administration of benzimidazole (BZ) drugs to children has recently intensified. But, as drug pressure increases, the development of anthelmintic drug resistance (AR) becomes a major concern. Currently, there is no global surveillance system to monitor drug efficacy and the emergence of AR. Consequently, it is unclear what the current efficacy of the used drugs is and whether AR is already present. The aim of this study is to pilot a global surveillance system to assess anthelmintic drug efficacy and the emergence of AR in STH control programs. For this, we will incorporate drug efficacy trials into national STH control programs of eight countries (Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Vietnam, Ghana, Rwanda, Senegal and a yet to be defined country in the Americas). In each country, one trial will be performed in one program implementation unit to assess the efficacy of BZ drugs against STHs in school-aged children by faecal egg count reduction test. Stool samples will be collected before and after treatment with BZs for Kato-Katz analysis and preserved to purify parasite DNA. The presence and frequency of known single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the β-tubulin genes of the different STHs will subsequently be assessed. This study will provide a global pattern of drug efficacy and emergence of AR in STH control programs. The results will provide complementary insights on the validity of known SNPs in the ß-tubulin gene as a marker for AR in human STHs as well as information on the technical and financial resources required to set up a surveillance system. Finally, the collected stool samples will be an important resource to validate different molecular technologies for the detection of AR markers or to identify novel potential molecular markers associated with AR in STH. However, there is a lack of data on healthcare provider's perspectives on delivering these interventions. The objective of the paper is to present providers' perspectives on delivering a GE-focused FP intervention, CHARM, to married couples in rural India. Methods  In-depth interviews were carried out with 22 male village health care providers who were delivering a GE-focused FP intervention, CHARM, to 428 husbands (247 couples) rural Maharashtra, India. Providers were interviewed on their experiences and perspectives during delivery of CHARM. Major domains were identified during a thematic analysis. Results Local male health providers are interested and can be engaged in delivering a GE-focused FP intervention. Providers believed that the CHARM intervention improves couples' communication, contraceptive use and strengthened their own capacity to provide FP services ihan couples' sessions. The relative increased costs among patients with CIDs and concomitant IBD compared to those without IBD is an important consideration when deciding on the clinical management of patient symptoms. Given the increasing use of novel agents for the treatment of CIDs, including those that may increase the risk of IBD in patients with CIDs, the objective of the study was to describe the incidence of IBD and to quantify healthcare resource utilization (HRU) and costs associated with IBD among patients with CIDs. Methods The IBM MarketScan® Research Databases (1/2010-7/2017) were used to identify adult patients with ≥2 claims with a diagnosis of either AS/PsA/PsO/RA (index date was a random claim for AS/PsA/PsO/RA). The one-year incidence rate oalone. Consideration should be given to treatment decisions that adequately manage CID and IBD to ensure optimal clinical and economic outcomes. © The Author(s) 2020.Dual-modality photoacoustic tomography (PAT) and 4D ultrasound (4DUS) imaging have shown promise for cardiovascular applications, but their use in murine atherosclerosis imaging is limited. This study used PAT and 4DUS to correlate altered arterial strain and hemodynamics to morphological changes and lipid localization in a murine partial carotid ligation (PCL) model of atherosclerosis. Validation experiments showed a positive correlation between the PAT signal-to-noise ratio and plaque lipid composition obtained from oil-red O histology. Cross-sectional in situ PAT and longitudinal in vivo ultrasound imaging was performed using a 40 MHz transducer. Ultrasound timepoints included days 0, 1, 4, 7, 10, and 14 for hemodynamic and strain assessment, and 1100 nm and 1210 nm PAT was implemented at the study end point for hemoglobin and lipid characterization. These study groups were then separated into day 4 post-PCL with (n = 5) and without (n = 6) Western diet feeding, as well as days 7 (n = 8), 10 (n = 8), and 14 (n = 8) post-PCL, in addition to a sham control group on a Western diet (n = 5). Overall, our data revealed a substantial decrease in left carotid artery pulsatility by day 7. The hemodynamic results suggested greater disturbed flow in the caudal regions resulting in earlier vessel stenosis and greater lipid deposition than cranial regions. Morphological and compositional data revealed heterogeneous vascular remodeling between days 0 and 7, with a rapid decrease in the vessel volume/length and the presence of both intraplaque hematoma and lipid deposition at day 10 post-PCL. These results highlight the utility of utilizing dual-modality PAT and 4DUS to study atherosclerosis progression. © Author(s).Biohybrid robots composed of biological and synthetic components have been introduced to reconstruct biological functions in mechanical systems and obtain better understanding of biological designs. For example, biohybrid robots powered by skeletal muscle tissue have already succeeded in performing various movements. However, it has been difficult for the conventional biohybrid robots to actuate in air, as the skeletal muscle tissue often dries out in air and is damaged. To overcome this limitation, we propose a biohybrid robot in which the skeletal muscle tissue is encapsulated in a collagen structure to maintain the required humidity conditions when operated in air. As the skeletal muscle tissue maintains high cell viability and contractility, even after encapsulation within the collagen structure, the biohybrid robot can move in air through contractions of the skeletal muscle tissue. To demonstrate the applicability of the developed biohybrid robot, we demonstrate its use in object manipulation. In addition, to prove its capability of functionality enhancement, we show that the biohybrid robot can actuate for a long term when perfusable tubes are set inside the collagen structure; it can actuate even while culturing cells on its surface.
