BLM-induced ALI is marked by the activation of a potent fibrogenic cytokine transcription growth factor beta-1 (TGFβ-1), which is considered a critical cytokine in the progression of alveolar injury. Previously, our work demonstrated that a diet-derived compound curcumin (diferuloylmethane), represents its antioxidative and antifibrotic application in TGF-β1-mediated BLM-induced alveolar basal epithelial cells. However, curcumin-specific protein targets, as well as its mechanism using mass spectrometry-based proteomic approach, remain elusive. To elucidate the underlying mechanism, a quantitative proteomics approach and bioinformatics analysis were employed to identify the protein targets of curcumin in BLM or TGF-β1-treated cells. With subsequent in vitro experiments, curcumin-related pathways and cellular processes were predicted and validated. The current study discusses two separate proteomics experiments using BLM and TGF-β1-treated cells with the proteomics approach, various unique target proteins were identified, and proteomic analysis revealed that curcumin reversed the expressions of unique proteins like DNA topoisomerase 2-alpha (TOP2A), kinesin-like protein (KIF11), centromere protein F (CENPF), and so on BLM or TGF-β1 injury. For the first time, the current study reveals that curcumin restores TGF-β1 induced peroxisomes like PEX-13, PEX-14, PEX-19, and ACOX1. This was verified by subsequent in vitro assays. This study generated molecular evidence to deepen our understanding of the therapeutic role of curcumin at the proteomic level and may be useful to identify molecular targets for future drug discovery.

This study aimed to analyse the relationship between peer-delivered health promotion programmes and student well-being and to expand the limited body of research examining peer-to-peer mental health promotion as experienced by student leaders.

The study was cross-sectional and focused on the experience of participants of a Sydney-based University Mental Health Day event, including student leaders, student participants, university staff and industry partners. It adopted a mixed-method approach to data collection, including a quantitative and a qualitative phase.

Results from the quantitative phase demonstrate the benefits of peer-delivered health promotion programmes to students who receive the event. Results from the qualitative phase of the study provide a deeper insight into the delivery of the event, from both a student leader perspective, and also from the perspective of other stakeholders, who worked closely with student leaders. With the ongoing pressure on university student services to support student well-being not being met with appropriate resourcing, peer-to-peer programmes, like the Mental Health and Well-being Student Ambassador Programme, have a real opportunity to make strides in supporting and promoting student mental health.

Patients living with cardiovascular diseases use different strategies to solve various problems. This study aimed to identify the category, type and specific self-management strategies reported by hospitalized patients with cardiovascular diseases.

This is a qualitative descriptive study. Twenty-eight individuals with cardiovascular diseases from a Cardiology Department affiliated with a school in China were recruited by purposive sampling. Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were used. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, translated and analysed by using content analysis.

Five self-management strategy categories (medical and alternative therapy uptake, risk assessment and avoidance, resource seeking and utilization, maintaining normality, and optional management), and seventeen self-management strategy types, encompassing one hundred and ten specific strategies were identified. The most commonly used self-management strategy types were lifestyle adjustment (eleven strategies), self-maintenance (ninestrategies) and problem-solving (nine strategies). Additionally, the most described explicit self-management strategies were receiving family/colleague support, maintaining daily routines, monitoring symptoms and managing side effects, discussing with professionals, using medicines, and improving awareness.

To date, eccentric loading exercises (ECC) have been the predominant choice; however, mechanical evidence underlying their use remains unclear. Other protocols, such as heavy slow resistance loading (HSR), have shown comparable outcomes, but with less training time. This study aims to identify the effect of external loading and other variables that influence Achilles tendon (AT) force in ECC and HSR. Ground reaction force and kinematic data during ECC and HSR were collected from 18 healthy participants for four loading conditions. The moment arms of the AT were estimated from MRIs of each participant. More recently, LIM, as a potential natural anticancer compound, has attracted major attention and exerted a chemopreventive activity, stimulating the detoxification of carcinogenic compounds and limiting tumor growth and angiogenesis in various cancer models. Anticancer activity of LIM was related to the inhibition of tumor initiation, growth, and angiogenesis and the induction of cancer cells apoptosis. In addition, LIM increased the expression of p53 and decreased the activity of Ras/Raf/MEK/ERK and PI3K/Akt pathways. The eighth edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC-v8) for anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) made a revision in staging for patients with lymph node metastasis (LNM) based on the seventh edition of AJCC (AJCC-v7). Our study aimed to evaluate the predictive ability of AJCC-v8 for survival in patients with ATC by exploring the association between lymph node stage and prognosis of ATC patients.

The association between LNM and survival of ATC was estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression model. A total of 313 patients with ATC were included in our analysis. Notably, LNM was identified as an independent risk factor for ATC mortality (adjusted HR, 1.47, 95% CI, 1.10-1.96; p=.009), while the risk of mortality in N1a group was comparable to that in N1b group according to univariate (HR, 1.30, 95% CI, 0.92-1.82; p=.133) and multivariate (adjusted HR 0.87, 95% CI, 0.60-1.27; p=.467) cox analyses. Applying the AJCC-v8, the survival of migration population staged T1-3aN1M0 was significantly worse than that of T1-3aN0M0 patients (IVA stage), while was not different from that of T3b-T4bN0/N1M0 patients (IVB stage). With a higher C-index (0.60 vs. 0.59), lower AIC (2728 vs. 2732) and BIC (2732 vs. 2735), AJCC-v8 was demonstrably a more favourable prediction model than AJCC-v7.

Yet, communicating effectively about increasingly complicated risk-science issues like plutonium disposition requires careful planning and speakers who can address why specific tools are selected, the past record of applying these tools, why assumptions sometimes are applied instead of reliable data, and how uncertainty is characterized. Speakers addressing risk issues must also overcome obstacles in communication arising from expert-audience differences in knowledge and legal restrictions on disclosing information. This perspective seeks to highlight and illustrate five key risk questions, about probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) and performance assessment (PA) in the context of managing plutonium defense nuclear waste objectives, experience, gaps, transparency, and difficulty of applying and communicating using each tool.
