During the sensitivity simulations, a 2-DOFs (degrees-of-freedom) quarter-car model is considered, being excited by harmonic excitations. The selected suspension parameters were normally randomized according to the Gaussian probability distribution based on their nominal values and a 30% SD (standard deviation) with respect to the uniformly randomized excitation frequency. The results inferred higher sensitivity change in the harvestable power bandwidth versus the excitation parameters, damping rate, and tire properties. Conversely, the harvestable power hardly broadened with respect to the body and wheel masses and the spring stiffness. © 2020 THE AUTHORS. In this study, we aimed to develop a nomogram for assessing the individual prior probability of late-onset sepsis on the basis of risk factors in preterm infants. This study is a mixed retrospective and prospective cohort study conducted in three centers. Data from January 2014 to December 2017 was used for the development cohort, and data from January 2018 to December 2018 was used for the validation cohort. In the development cohort, we identified the predicting variables of late-onset sepsis in preterm infants, from which a nomogram was obtained. Then we built nomograms, for with and without thyroid function, to predict late-onset sepsis. The nomogram was validated in the validation cohort concerning discrimination and calibration. A total of 1256 and 452 preterm infants were included in the development and validation cohort, respectively. We found thyroid hypofunction in preterm infants could increase the incidence of late-onset infection. The prediction model incorporated thyroid function, birth weight, use of endotracheal intubation, and duration of umbilical venous catheters was validated and developed as a nomogram for predicting late-onset sepsis in preterm infants. Nomogram in this study may contribute to clinical assessment and treatment decisions. © 2020 THE AUTHORS. This study investigated the host immune responses elicited during the pre-erythrocytic stage, post-Plasmodium yoelii sporozoite infection in Swiss mice model. For this purpose, we analyzed the dynamics of different subsets of immune cells population and cytokine levels in the hepatic mononuclear and splenic cells population during pre-erythrocytic liver-stage infection. We observed a significant reduction in the effectors immune cells population including CD8+ T cell, F4/80+ macrophage and in plasmacytoid dendritic cells (CD11c+ B220+). Interestingly, substantial down-regulation was also noted in pro-inflammatory cytokines (i.e. IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-12, IL-2, IL-17 and iNOS), while, up-regulation of anti-inflammatory cytokines (i.e. IL-10, IL-4 and TGF-β) during asymptomatic pre-erythrocytic liver-stage infection. Collectively, this study demonstrated that during pre-erythrocytic development, Plasmodium yoelii sporozoite impaired the host activators of innate and adaptive immune responses by regulating the immune effector cells, gene expression and cytokines levels for the establishment of infection and subsequent development in the liver and spleen. The results in this study provided a better understanding of the events leading to malarial infection and will be helpful in supportive treatment and vaccine development strategy. © 2020 THE AUTHORS. Recently, increased research on both on the physiopathological mechanisms and the transcriptome during stroke progression, have highlighted the relationship between stroke progression and immunity, with a special focus on inflammation. Proteasome inhibition Here, we applied proteome analysis to a middle carotid artery occlusion (MCAO) mouse model at 0 h, 6 h, 12 h and 24 h, in which proteome profiling was performed with 23 samples, and 41 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were identified. Bioinformatics studies on our data revealed the importance of the immune response and particularly identified the inflammatory response, cytokine- cytokine receptor interactions, the innate immune response and reactive oxygen species (ROS) during stroke progression. In addition, we compared our data with multiple gene expression omnibus (GEO) datasets with and without a time series, in which similar pathways were identified, and three proteins, C3, Apoa4 and S100a9, were highlighted as markers or drug targets for stroke; these three proteins were significantly upregulated in the MCAO model, both in our proteomic data and in the GEO database. © 2020 THE AUTHORS. Starting from Merlot red pomace, phenol complex mixtures were successfully extracted by using two different approaches. Extracts obtained by solvent-based (SE) technique contained up to 46.9 gGAeq/kgDW of total phenols. Depending on the used solvent, the prevalence of compounds belonging to different phenol families was achieved. Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) gave higher total phenol yields (up to 79 gGAeq/kgDW) but a lower range of extracted compounds. All liquid extracts exerted strong antioxidant properties. Moreover, both SE and PLE extraction solid residues were directly exploited (between 5 and 20% w/w) to prepare biocomposite materials by direct mixing via an eco-friendly approach with PHBV polymer. The final composites showed mechanical characteristics similar to PHVB matrix. The use of pomace residues in biocomposites could therefore bring both to the reduction of the cost of the final material, as a lower amount of costly PHBV is used. The present research demonstrated the full valorisation of grape pomace, an agrowaste produced every year in large amounts and having a significant environmental impact. © 2020 THE AUTHORS.
