Dorsal arachnoid web (DAW) is a rare intradural abnormality which is associated with progressive myelopathy. Our objective was to review multi-modality imaging techniques demonstrating the scalpel sign appearance in evaluation of DAW.
We retrospectively reviewed various imaging modalities of patients found to have DAW at our institution during January 2015 to February 2020. Five patients underwent surgical decompression with pathological correlation. The remaining patients were presumptively diagnosed based on the characteristic finding of scalpel sign. Clinical data were evaluated and correlated to imaging findings. All imaging modalities demonstrated the characteristic scalpel sign.
Sixteen patients (10 females, and six males) with multi-imaging modalities were evaluated. Their mean age was 52 year (range 23-74 years). Fifteen patients underwent conventional spine MRI. Further high-resolution MR imaging techniques, e.g. 3D T2 myelographic sequence, were utilized with two patients. MRI spine CSF flow study was performed to evaluate the flow dynamic across the arachnoid web in one patient. Eight patients were evaluated with CT myelogram. Syrinx formation was discovered in seven (44%) patients; five (71%) of them underwent surgical resection and decompression. Two patients underwent successful catheter-directed fenestration of the web with clinical improvement. We found a statically significant positive correlation between the degree of cord displacement and compression with syrinx formation (r = 0.55 and 0.65 with
-value of 0.03 and 0.009, respectively).

Reduced life satisfaction is frequently reported in anorexia nervosa (AN), but the factors contributing to this are still unclear. This study sought to extend previous work by examining 12 potential correlates of AN life satisfaction. One hundred and five female AN patients were administered questionnaires assessing life satisfaction, depression, anxiety, stress, employment status, marital status, body mass index, eating disorder symptomatology, perceived disability and readiness for change. A stepwise linear regression revealed that only depression, perceived disability and employment status were significantly associated with AN life satisfaction. The findings thus highlight prevailing mood and personal functioning as critical foci for clinical management strategies in people with AN. Addressing depressive symptoms and perceived disability while bettering employment prospects could facilitate improved AN life satisfaction.The present study aimed to examine gender differences in the experience of eating disorder-related intrusive thoughts (EDITs; i.e., frequency, content, emotional consequences, & control strategies). In addition, differences in the experience of EDITs across those atrisk of developing an eating disorder and those who are not atrisk were investigated. Six hundred and seventy-one adults completed self-report measures assessing the experience of EDITs, disordered eating attitudes and behaviours, and body dissatisfaction. It was found that females experienced EDITs more frequently and with higher levels of distress compared with males. With regard to control strategies, females tended to use distraction and thought suppression, whereas males were likely to do nothing in response. Participants in the at-risk group experienced EDITs more frequently, with higher distress, and responded by using obsessive-compulsive rituals or doing what the intrusion dictated significantly more than non-risk participants. IPA-3 Relationships between body dissatisfaction and EDITs related to bodily appearance were found to be stronger for men, whereas women revealed a stronger relationship between disordered eating and purging EDITs. The findings of this study support the growing literature regarding EDITs as a distinct clinical feature of eating disorders, and the developing evidence base regarding intrusive thoughts as a transdiagnostic mechanism.Aim (i) to compare the effects of two different low-volume resistance priming sessions, where the external load is modified on neuromuscular performance after 6 h of rest; and (ii) to identify the effects on psychological readiness in participants with resistance training experience. Methods Eleven participants (Body mass 77.0 ± 8.9 kg; Body height 1.76 ± 0.08 m; Half squat repetition maximum 139.8 ± 22.4 kg) performed the priming session under three experimental conditions in a randomized and cross-over design during the morning. The control (CON) condition no resistance training, "optimal load" (OL) condition two half-squat sets with a velocity loss of around 20% were performed with the "optimal load", and 80% of repetition maximum (80% RM) condition 2 half-squat sets with a velocity loss of around 20% were performed with the 80% RM. Countermovement jump (CMJ), mean power with OL (MPOL) and 80% RM (MP80RM), and mean velocity with OL (MVOL) and 80% RM (MV80RM) were assessed six hours after the intervention. Subjective readiness was also recorded prior to resistance training and evaluation. Significance was set at p less then 0.05. Results CMJ was higher after the 80% RM intervention than CON (p less then 0.001; Δ = 6.5% [3.4-9.5]). MPOL and MVOL seemed to be unaffected by both morning sessions. Higher MP80RM (p = 0.044; Δ = 9.7% [4.0-15.6]; d = 0.24[0.10-0.37]) and MV80RM (p = 0.004; Δ = 8.1% [3.2-13.3]; d = 0.32[0.13-0.52]) after 80% RM than after CON were observed. No effect was observed on psychological readiness. Conclusions 80% RM priming session increased CMJ height and the capacity to generate power and velocity under a high-load condition without any effect on psychological readiness.A body mass index (BMI) ≥25 kg/m2 is linked to worse health outcomes. Little is known about women's awareness of their BMI and their awareness of associations between high BMI and cardiovascular and gynecologic diseases. We investigated perceived versus actual BMI of women in an outpatient women's health clinic and determined awareness of health risks linked to high BMI. We administered an anonymous survey to women presenting for health care in gynecological services at an urban OB/GYN women's health clinic. We used a Kappa test to determine agreement between perceived versus actual BMI category (defined using CDC guidelines) and Fisher's exact tests to determine rates of awareness of health risks linked to high BMI. One-hundred seventeen women (84% African-American) participated in ≥1 portion of the survey. Mean age = 31.03 ± 9.54 years; mean BMI = 33.8 ± 10 kg/m2. Of 76 respondents, 50 underestimated their BMI category (p .09 for all). Women seeking outpatient gynecologic care did not accurately perceive BMI and were unlikely to associate high BMI with gynecologic conditions. Improved awareness of BMI and health risks of obesity are educational opportunities for women.During reading, most words are identified in the fovea through a direct fixation; however, readers also identify some words in the parafovea without directly fixating them. This word skipping process is influenced by many lexical and visual factors including word length, launch position, frequency, and predictability. Although these factors are well understood, there is some disagreement about the process that leads to word skipping and the degree to which skipped words are processed. The purpose of this study was to investigate the word skipping process when readers are exposed to novel words in an incidental lexical acquisition paradigm. Participants read 18 three-letter novel words (i.e., pru, cho) in three different informative contexts each while their eye movements were monitored. They then completed a surprise test of their orthographic and semantic acquisition and a spelling skill assessment. Mixed-effects models indicated that participants learned spellings and meanings of words at the same rate regardless of the number of times that they were skipped. However, word skipping rates increased across the three exposures and reading times decreased. Results indicate that readers appear to process skipped words to the same degree as fixated words. However, this may be due to a more cautious skipping process used during lexical acquisition of unfamiliar words compared to processing of already known words.Since the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) outbreak, health-care workers (HCWs) have had to create personal protective equipment (PPE) due to the worldwide demand and thus ensuing shortage. There is a significant pitfall in clinical translation of large-sized tissue-engineered grafts - a lack of vascularization. This study was carried out to find the answer in a plant leaf, as plants and animals share structural similarities.
We fabricated a scaffold using
leaves (10%SDS) and expanded the endothelial cells onto them. The vascularity was demarcated by angiography. The thermal decomposition confirmed that the oxidation resistance of the scaffold is parallel to the natural leaf. The acellularity of the scaffold as well as the presence of cellular establishment after culture on the scaffold was confirmed by histology, scanning electron microscopy, periodic acid-Schiff, and DNA quantification. Further, we estimated various biochemical markers like MDA, catalase, total proteins, and total nitric oxide for confirming their metabolic activities. Cell-specific markers like vWF, lectin established their phenotype. Cytotoxicity and live-dead assay showed the viability of cells.
Our findings proved that the decellularized leaf scaffold preserves vascularity, exhibits non-toxicity, maintains the cell identity, and supports mammalian cells for their metabolic activities. The study gives a futuristic hope in combating the ever-growing issues of clinical applicability of large-sized grafts.

The study gives a futuristic hope in combating the ever-growing issues of clinical applicability of large-sized grafts.Three types of Co-xZr (x = 5, 7.5, and 10 wt.%) were treated with hydroxyapatite (HA) and used as an object to investigate the effect of HA coating on the surface and biocompatibility of Co-xZr alloys. And the protein adsorption and the subsequent biological behaviour of osteoblast, fibroblast and macrophages were also investigated. The surface microstructure and wettability were assessed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and static angle profilometer. To evaluate the biocompatibility of Co-xZr and Co-xZr-HA, we quantified plasma proteins adsorption by bicinchoninic acid assay (BCA), cytotoxicity and cell proliferation by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicated that Co-xZr-HA alloy surfaces were more hydrophilic and had higher affinity to plasma proteins. Higher protein concentrations were found adsorbed onto Co-7.5Zr-HA and Co-10Zr-HA alloys. Cytotoxicity analysis indicated that HA coating improved the biocompatibility of Co-xZr alloys. Furthermore, the comparable results of co-incubation of Co-xZr-HA alloys with cells reveal cellular attachments to HA surfaces.
