Fungal communities are essential to the maintenance of soil multifunctionality. Plant invasion represents a growing challenge for the conservation of soil biodiversity across the globe, but the impact of non-native species invasion on fungal diversity, community structure, and assembly processes remains largely unknown. Here, we examined the diversity, community composition, functional guilds, and assembly process of fungi at three soil depths underneath a native species, three non-native species, and a bare tidal flat from a coastal wetland. Plant species was more important than soil depth in regulating the diversity, community structure, and functional groups of fungi. Non-native species, especially Spartina alterniflora, increased fungal diversity, altered fungal community structure, and increased the relative abundance of saprotrophic and pathogenic fungi in coastal wetland soils. Stochastic processes played a predominant role in driving fungal community assembly, explaining more than 70% of the relative contributions. However, compared to a native species, non-native species, especially S. alterniflora, reduced the relative influence of stochastic processes in fungal community assembly. Collectively, our results provide novel evidence that non-native species can increase fungal diversity, the relative abundance of saprotrophic and pathogenic fungi, and deterministic processes in the assembly of fungi in coastal wetlands, which can expand our knowledge of the dynamics of fungal communities in subtropical coastal wetlands.Identification of stable reference genes for normalization purposes is necessary for obtaining reliable and accurate results of reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analyses. To our knowledge, no reference gene(s) have been validated for this purpose in Clostridium perfringens. In this study, the expression profile of ten candidate reference genes from three strains of C. perfringens were assessed for stability under various experimental conditions using geNorm in qbase + . These stability rankings were then compared to stability assessments evaluated by BestKeeper, NormFinder, delta Ct, and RefFinder algorithms. When comparing all the analyses; gyrA, ftsZ, and recA were identified within the most stable genes under the different experimental conditions and were further tested as a set of reference genes for normalization of alpha toxin gene expression over a 22-h period. Depending on the condition, rpoA and rho might also be suitable to include as part of the reference set. Although commonly used for the purpose of normalizing RT-qPCR data, the 16S rRNA gene (rrs) was found to be an unsuitable gene to be used as a reference. In this study, SbCASP-LP1C1 (a CASP-like protein1C1) was localized in the plasma membrane of sweet sorghum root endodermal cells, and its function was further studied by heterologous expression in Arabidopsis (35 SSbCASP-LP1C1-GFP). When germinated and grown on 50 mM NaCl, the SbCASP-LP1C1-expressing lines had longer roots and a higher salinity threshold compared with wild-type (Col-0) plant and the casp-lp T-DNA insertion mutant in Arabidopsis. The 35 SSbCASP-LP1C1-GFP lines also suffered less oxidative damage as determined by DAB and NBT staining, and the expression levels of several antioxidant genes were higher in these lines. Moreover, the stele of 35 SSbCASP-LP1C1-GFP lines was less permeable to propidium iodide, and these plants contained less Na+ in their shoots and roots compared to wild type and casp-lp. In the 35 SSbCASP-LP1C1-GFP lines, the expression levels of two Casparian strip synthesis genes, MYB36 and ESB1, were increased. These results indicate that SbCASP-LP1C1 may be involved in the polymerization of lignin monomers in the Casparian strip of sweet sorghum, thereby regulating salt tolerance. Metaphor is a useful tool for scientific production and its heuristic value has been demonstrated in several fields of knowledge. I claim a musico-logical metaphor to explain dynamic dialogic processes that occur when I-positions are in agreement or disagreement relationship. These dialogic processes are based on tension and release and, in a complementary way, can result in contradictory, tautological, or contingency relations between I-positions. These relations were categorized using concepts from Music and Logic, thus creating a theoretical model composed of metaphorical concepts. To provide evidence of how a musico-logical metaphor might contribute to the interpretation of relations between I-positions in the system of self, I discuss a case study of a rural worker and analyze how child labor marked his life trajectory throughout different moments. This study therefore explored the relationships among feeling affirmed-from-church, weight-rejection sensitivity, and body evaluations. Drawing from self-affirmation theory, we tested whether a social aspect of religiosity (i.e., feeling affirmed from one's religious community) attenuated the relationship between weight-rejection anxiety and body dissatisfaction, controlling for body mass, affect, and church attendance. We also examined gender differences in religiosity, body image, and fat talk in secular and religious circles in a sample of young adults in the USA (187F, 84M; Mage = 18.59, SD = 0.83). As predicted, both men and women reported hearing less fat-talk at church than among friends, and women reported a positive relation between feeling affirmed-from-church and hearing body-acceptance talk at church. The moderation prediction was supported for women. Greater affirmation-from-church weakened the effect of women's weight sensitivity on body satisfaction (but not weight esteem). For men, affirmation-from-church strengthened the effect of their weight sensitivity on body dissatisfaction and low weight esteem. Feeling affirmed from church may facilitate women's body satisfaction despite their weight-sensitivities. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
The incidence of intracranial metastatic disease (IMD) in patients with gastrointestinal (GI) cancers is rising. Expression of the erythroblastic oncogene B-2 (ERBB2) is associated with an in increased risk of IMD in patients with breast cancer. The implications of ERBB2 expression for IMD risk in patients with GI cancers is less clear. The objective of this systematic review was to determine the incidence of IMD and OS in patients with ERBB2+ gastrointestinal cancers.
A literature search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, and grey literature sources was conducted from date of database inception to July 2021. Included studies reported outcomes on patients with IMD secondary to ERBB2 GI cancers.
Fourteen cohort studies met inclusion criteria, of which thirteen were retrospective. Eleven studies reported on gastric, esophageal, or gastroesophageal junction cancers. Three studies directly compared incidence of IMD based on ERBB2 status and among these, ERBB2+ patients had a higher incidence of IMD. One study indicated that ERBB2+ patients had significantly longer OS from the times of primary cancer (P = .015) and IMD diagnosis (P = .01), compared with patients with ERBB2- disease.
In this systematic review, patients with ERBB2+ GI cancer were more likely to develop IMD. Future study is required on the prognostic and predictive value of ERBB2 status in patients with GI cancers.

In this study, the major capsid protein of bacilliform clavavitus APBV1, which infects the hyperthermophilic archaeon Aeropyrum pernix, was successfully expressed in Escherichia coli. The gene product was expressed as a histidine-tagged protein in E. coli and purified to homogeneity using single-step nickel affinity chromatography. The purified recombinant protein self-assembled to form bacilliform virus-like particles at room temperature. The particles exhibited tolerance against high concentrations of organic solvents and protein denaturants. In addition, we succeeded in fabricating functional nanoparticles with amine functional groups on the surface of ORF6-81 nanoparticles. These robust protein nanoparticles can potentially be used as a scaffold in nanotechnological applications.
