A growing body of research indicates both positive and negative effects of grandparent childcare; effects that are largely dependent upon the context and intensity of the care are required. Here, we suggest that context to be inclusive of cultural background. Drawing on the indigenous methodological framework, talanoa, the views of 13 Pacific Island grandparents in relation to themes of grandparent childminding are explored, as well its proximity to perceptions of elder abuse. A cultural analysis reveals that traditions specific to the Pacific way of life may lead to increased risk of prolonged childcare. The participants in this study felt that prolonged childminding deprived them of time which could be used to benefit them and their community in the long run. It was viewed as a form of disrespect, as older people are revered and held in high regard in decision making activities from the Pacific worldview. The participants embraced their roles as the knowledge holders of cultural treasures; responsible for teaching children and grandchildren their genealogy and language, and for upholding the protocols of their cultural heritage. However, they felt their contributions were not reciprocated nor valued, but instead exploited.Since the mid-1990s, information technology, particularly the diffusion of the internet, has brought tremendous changes to communication and social participation for people in China, including older adults. At the same time, modernisation and urbanisation have transformed the way many people in China live. The traditional multigenerational household-older adults living with adult children and grandchildren-is giving way to other living arrangements, such as living alone or with a spouse only. Using wave 1 of the World Health Organization Study on Global AGEing and Adult Health collected between 2007 and 2010, we examined the extent to which home internet access might be associated with cognitive function in older adults aged 50 or over in urban China (N = 5,898), paying attention to the moderating role of living arrangements. We found that home internet access was associated with better cognitive function, and living arrangements played an essential role in such an association for different age groups. Specifically, older adults living alone benefited cognitively from internet access, particularly among those aged 50-64 and 65-74. Those living with a spouse only and those in two-generation households benefited cognitively from internet access, particularly among those aged 50-64 and 75+. Older adults age 75+ in skip-generation households benefited cognitively from internet access. Considering the trend of older adults living apart from their children, our research suggests that providing internet access to older adults in urban China, especially those living alone, could help protect their cognitive function. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to assess the satisfaction of parents of visually impaired children with the pediatric ophthalmology care in a Brazilian hospital and to associate parental satisfaction with predictor variables. The study enrolled children with a binocular and monocular visual impairment aged between 4 and 17 years from a single site in Brazil between June 2019 and May 2020. Parents or legal guardians answered the Brazilian version of the Pediatric Quality of Life InventoryTM (PedsQLTM 3.0) Healthcare Satisfaction Generic - Parents. Linear regression analysis was used to investigate the association between the PedsQL scores and predictor variables. The sample included 82 children and their respective parents. The mean PedsQL score was 90.3 ± 6.6 (out of 100). In the univariate model, child female sex (p = 0.056), child older age (p = 0.078), better eye visual acuity (VA; p = 0.016), and worse eye VA (p = 0.008) were significantly associated with higher scores. The multivariate estimates identified the worse eye VA (p = 0.034) as a predictor of parental satisfaction. In summary, parents' satisfaction with this pediatric ophthalmology care was high. Nevertheless, a continuous evaluation is warranted to keep up with parents' expectations and plan for possible improvements in clinical practice. The way in which an infant is breastfed by a migrant woman reflects her bio-psycho-social circumstances and her process of cultural transformation and adaptation to the host country. Exploring facilitating and hindering factors to exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) of immigrant mothers in Spain is essential for the development of guidelines that protect EBF. The aim of this qualitative study is to explore the factors perceived as facilitating or hindering EBF during the first six months of the baby's life by Latin American women living in Colmenar Viejo, a city in the Community of Madrid (Spain). We carried out in-depth semi-structured face-to-face interviews between December 2018 and February 2019 with 11 Latin American mothers who were recruited through key informants and snowball sampling. We audio-recorded the interviews, transcribed them, and performed content analysis to examine the data. EBF was facilitated by the mother and her family having information about its benefits, lower economic expenses, family aty.Cover legend Brown seaweeds like these Fucaceae Fucus guiryi and Pelvetia canaliculata form an important part of the intertidal communities along the European temperate Atlantic shores, See Barrera-Redondoet al., (pp 992-1009). Rare cases arise in the digestive tract and may be misdiagnosed with neuroendocrine or gastrointestinal stromal tumors. We aimed to specify the features of GT of the upper digestive tract. Clinical, histological, phenotypic, and molecular features of 16 digestive GTs were analyzed, of whom two underwent whole exome and RNA sequencing to search for gene alterations. RNA-sequencing disclosed a t(15)(p13;q32) translocation, which resulted in the fusion of CARMN and NOTCH2 in two GTs. The fusion gene encoded a protein sequence corresponding to the NOTCH2 intracellular domain that functions as transcription factor. These finding was supported by high expression of genes targeted by NOTCH. The CARMN-NOTCH2 translocation was detected in 14 out of 16 (88%) GTs of the upper digestive tract; but in only in two out of six cutaneous GTs (33%). Most digestive GT arose from the stomach (n = 13), and the others from duodenal (2) or oesophagous (1).
