Percutaneous pulmonary valve implantation (PPVI) is recognized as a feasible and low risk alternative to surgery to treat dysfunctional right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) in usually pluri-operated patients. Evolving technology allowed to develop different kind of prosthesis and to go from an initial treatment exclusively of stenotic conduit to an actual approach extended also to wide native RVOT. The Melody transcatheter pulmonary valve (TPV) and the Edwards Sapien valve are nowadays the most commonly implanted prostheses. However, other devices have been developed to treat large RVOT (i.e., the Venus p-valve, the Medtronic Harmony TPV, the Alterra Adaptive Prestent, and the Pulsta valve). Indications for PPVI are the same as for surgical interventions on pulmonary valve, with limits related to the maximum diameter of the available percutaneous prosthesis. Therefore, an accurate preoperative evaluation is of paramount importance to select patients who could benefit from this procedure. The overall periprocedural mortality incidence is around 1.4%, while freedom from RVOT reintervention ranges from 100% at 4 months to 70% at 70 months, according to the different published studies. BACKGROUND Femoral avulsion fracture of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in association with meniscus tear is extremely rare in children, and similar cases are not available in the existing literature. CASE PRESENTATION In this paper, we present a case of a 9-year-old boy treated by an arthroscopic repair technique using two transfemoral tunnels sparing the epiphyseal plate for 8-shaped suture fixation of femoral avulsion fracture of the PCL and using the Fastfix repair system for a meniscus tear. At 3-month postoperative, the boy showed satisfactory recovery with a full range of motion of the right knee and normal muscular strength, and no complications were observed after operation. The patient had been followed up for 24 months and his final assessment demonstrated stable painless knee with excellent functional outcome. In view of this, we suggest that the "figure-of-eight" suture technique using two transfemoral tunnels sparing the epiphyseal plate can be considered a new choice for the treatment of the PCL femoral attachment avulsion, especially in skeletally immature patients. In addition, six similar cases were found in a comprehensive literature review targeting femoral avulsion fracture of the PCL. According to the relevant findings and cases studies, we proposed a new classification named "Xiangya" which might facilitate future clinical decision making. © 2020 The Authors. This special issue of The Anatomical Record highlights the scope of the research done by paleobiologists, with an emphasis on dinosaurs and their relatives, and is structured into three broad categories of research (1) anatomical descriptions, (2) the biology of the dinosaurs and their relatives, and (3) macroevolutionary trends. Although these topics all fall within the purview of contemporary paleobiology, many of these topics have been studied in one form or another since the beginning of dinosaur paleobiology as a field. Rather than the topics themselves, what characterizes the modern renaissance of paleobiology is the employment of newly developed quantitative techniques to analyze the relationships between taxa and their evolutionary history. While primary anatomical descriptions remain the central pillar of dinosaur paleobiology, researchers now have a suitable baseline understanding of dinosaurian anatomy and their major evolutionary relationships. Using this baseline, they are able to ask more complex questions and refine their understanding of dinosaurian evolution. The aim of this issue is to exemplify the range of topics examined within dinosaur paleobiology and to look forward to the future of paleobiology. We tested the hypothesis that increased brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression in the basal forebrain following acute sleep deprivation was a compensatory mechanism to maintain fear memory performance. METHODS Adult male Wistar rats were deprived of 6-hr total sleep from the beginning of the light cycle. The effects of sleep deprivation on BDNF protein expression and activation of downstream tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB)/phospholipase C-γ1 (PLCγ1) signaling in the basal forebrain and fear memory consolidation were examined. BDNF or selective downstream TrkB receptor antagonist ANA-12 was further injected into the basal forebrain bilaterally to observe the changes in fear memory consolidation in response to modulation of the BDNF/TrkB signaling. SecinH3 RESULTS Six hours of sleep deprivation-induced both short- and long-term fear memory impairments. Increased BDNF protein expression and TrkB and PLCγ1 phosphorylation in the basal forebrain were observed after sleep deprivation. Microinjection of BDNF into the basal forebrain partly reversed fear memory deficits caused by sleep deprivation, which were accompanied by increased BDNF protein levels and TrkB/PLCγ1 activation. After ANA-12 microinjection, sleep deprivation-induced activation of the BDNF/TrkB pathway was inhibited and impairments of fear memory consolidation were further aggravated. CONCLUSIONS Acute sleep deprivation induces compensatory increase of BDNF expression in the basal forebrain. Microinjection of BDNF into the basal forebrain mitigates the fear memory impairments caused by sleep deprivation by activating TrkB/PLCγ1 signaling. © 2020 The Authors.
