Repair outcomes of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) associated with ischaemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) are inferior to functional TR in terms of TR recurrence and right ventricular (RV) reverse remodelling. Our objective is to analyse right versus left heart reverse remodelling after surgery for IMR-associated TR.

From 2001 to 2011, 568 patients with severe IMR underwent mitral valve surgery (repair 87%, replacement 13%), and 131 had concomitant tricuspid valve repair. Median follow-up was 3.0 years; 25% of living patients were followed up for 6.3 years. Longitudinal analysis of 1527 follow-up echocardiograms was performed to assess ventricular reverse remodelling and function.

Unlike the left heart, the right heart failed to reverse remodel (failed to recover ventricular function or halt dilatation). During follow-up after surgery, the right ventricle continued to dilate while the left ventricle regressed in size. RV ejection fraction decreased (46% at 1 month and 44% at 5 years), while left ventricular ejection fraction increased (33% and 37%, respectively). RV strain showed early (-11% at 1 month) and late (-12% at 5 years) dysfunction. Patients who underwent tricuspid valve repair had worse RV function. Mitral regurgitation remained stable after surgical intervention, and TR gradually recurred (37% moderate, 20% severe at 7 years).

Surgical treatment of IMR and TR along with revascularization failed to induce reverse remodelling of the right heart. These findings warrant further investigations to identify optimal timing and approach of intervention for IMR-associated TR with respect to RV remodelling.

Individual vegetable oils have a characteristic fatty acids (FA) composition and unique phytonutrient profiles, enabling formulation of oil blends that may have health-promoting effects.

The primary objective of this study was to investigate effects of 2 oil blends made with refined rice bran, flaxseed, and sesame oils, with distinct monounsaturated to saturated FA, polyunsaturated to saturated FA, and omega-3 (n-3) to omega-6 FA ratios and different phytonutrient concentrations on blood lipid profile, compared with refined olive oil as a control. The secondary outcomes were other markers of cardiometabolic health.

We aimed to compare tuberculosis (TB) risk during biologics treatment between patients with RA who did (prophylaxis) and did not (non-prophylaxis) undergo chemoprophylaxis following pre-biologic latent TB screening in Korea of an intermediate TB burden.

Using the 2002-16 Korea National Health Insurance database, we conducted a cohort study examining TB risk, defined by International Classification of Diseases Tenth Revision codes plus anti-TB drugs, among RA patients initiating a biologic drug with and without chemoprophylaxis after screening triage for latent TB. To control baseline confounding, we used propensity score-based fine stratification (PSS) and weighting. Cox proportional hazards models estimated hazard ratios and 95% CIs comparing TB risk between the prophylaxis vs non-prophylaxis groups.

The PSS-weighted study cohort (mean age 57.0 years; 81.3% female) included 2249 and 7225 RA patients in the prophylaxis and non-prophylaxis groups, respectively. During 2.42 years of biologics treatment, 1 background TB burden is not low.

As an initial step toward this goal, we developed and validated a model to convert between chemical oxygen demand (COD) and gross energy ($E_g$) for >100 food items and ingredients.

We developed linear regression models to relate (and be able to convert between) theoretical gross energy ($E_g^\prime$) and chemical oxygen demand (COD'); the latter is a measure of electron equivalents in the food's carbon.
