y. The two-step system was the most effective regimen for biofilm removal, where the soaking period in the disinfecting solution of the no-rub regimen should last more than 6 h to remove pre-formed biofilm.

To compare the effectiveness, procedure time and safety outcomes of two different intravitreal injections (IVI) techniques.

This was a prospective, single-center, randomized clinical trial of 200 adult eyes receiving intravitreal medications for various indications. Eyes were assigned (11) to undergo IVI using either an intravitreal injection guide (IIG) (n= 100) or conventional dual blade speculum plus surgical caliper (DBS) (n=100). All IVI were administered using a 30-gauge needle placed 4 mm posterior to the inferior limbus. The main outcome measures were rate of successful IVI administration, procedure time (seconds) as measured by a stopwatch from application to removal of IIG or DBS, patient preference for IVI technique and adverse events.

The two groups were similar in terms of mean age (P=0.398), laterality (P=0.671), indication for treatment (P=0.175) and medication type (P=0.489). All IVI procedures were successfully completed in both groups. The mean procedure time was shorter using the IIG (9.94 ± 2.87 seconds) versus DBS (21.85 ± 7.25 seconds) technique (P ≤ 0.01). The incidence of post-injection subconjunctival hemorrhage was higher when the DBS was applied (OR = 2.35, 95% CI = 1.22-4.53). Patients with previous history of IVI preferred the IIG over the DBS. No other injection-related adverse events were observed in both groups.

DBS and IIG techniques are similarly effective and safe for the administration of intravitreal medications. The IIG appears to significantly reduce procedure time, be associated with a lower incidence of subconjunctival hemorrhage and engender better patient acceptance.

To evaluate the VEP parameters in operated controlled primary congenital glaucoma (PCG) eyes and compare them to normal age similar children eyes.

A cross-sectional comparative study conducted on 34 (19 right) eyes of 26 (19 males) children operated for PCG and 30 (17 right) eyes of 22 (12 males) age similar control children in a university-based practice. Avasimibe in vivo All study participants were subjected to a standard protocol of examination and electrophysiological testing (single flash VEP response, light adapted, pupils not dilated), reporting on the P2 implicit time, N1-P1 and N2-P2 (amplitude).

The mean±SD of the age of the study children and controls was 43.22±33.2 and 55.68±35.2 months respectively (p=0.217). The mean±SD IOP and cup/disc ratio of the study children were 18.4±5.2 and 5.2±3.3mmHg and 0.7±0.2 and 0.3±0.3 at presentation and at testing, respectively. The VEP testing was conducted after 21.5±21.3 months of surgery for PCG. There was no statistically significant differences in P2, N1-P1 and N2-P2 between patients and controls (p=0.941, 0.916,0.945, respectively). There was no statistically significant correlation between most of the clinical characteristics of the study eyes and any of the studied VEP parameters.

Operated controlled PCG eyes have VEP parameters that match their normal fellow children.

This research was aimed at evaluating the seroprevalence of acute and chronic

(

) infection in pregnant women and related risk factors in southwest Iran.

In this cross-sectional study, eighty-eight pregnant women were included from October 2019 to December 2019. The presence of anti-

IgM and IgG antibodies was measured using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). In addition, a questionnaire consisting of demographic information was completed for each subject.

The overall seroprevalence of

infection was estimated to be 34.09% (30/88). Of these, 1 (1.13%) and 29 (32.95%) samples were found positive for IgM and IgG, respectively. Regarding the risk factors, the consumption of raw/undercooked meat (

value = 0.007) and history of abortion (

value = 0.017) were significantly associated with IgG seroprevalence in pregnant women.

The results showed that the pregnant women of southwest Iran might be moderately exposed to

. Since the risk of acute

infection in this susceptible group is very important, regular screening tests to diagnose the infection are recommended before pregnancy.

Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is one of the more recently established surgical fellowships, with many candidates applying due to a perception of inadequate exposure to advanced MIS during residency. The desire for advanced training should be reflected in increased competitiveness for fellowship positions. The aim of this study is to determine the desirability of MIS fellowships over time through review of national application data.

We reviewed the fellowship match statistics obtained from The Fellowship Council, the organizing body behind the MIS fellowship match. Data from January 1, 2008 - December 31, 2019 were included. We compared match rates to other specialties using the National Resident Matching Program, a nonprofit organization established for US residency and some fellowship programs.

In the period of 2008 to 2019, the number of certified MIS fellowship programs increased from 124 to 141. While this program expansion was associated with a 19% increase in available positions, the number of applications increased 36%. As a result, the number of positions filled increased from 83% to 97%, but the match rate among US applicants fell from 82% to 71% during this interval. In comparison, the match rates for pediatric surgery, surgical oncology, vascular surgery, and surgical critical care fellowships remained largely unchanged, most recently 50%, 56%, 99%, and 100% respectively.

Over the last decade, US residents have shown an increased interest in pursuing MIS fellowship positions. As a consequence, the match process for MIS fellowships is becoming increasingly competitive.
