BDFs inhibited DNA-binding properties of HU proteins from mycoplasmas S. melliferum, Mycoplasma gallicepticum and Escherichia coli with half-maximum inhibitory concentrations in the range between 5 and 10 µM. However, long term patency remains limited by the development of vascular inflammation, intimal hyperplasia and accelerated atherosclerosis. The impact of acute exposure of venous endothelial cells (ECs) to acute arterial wall shear stress (WSS) in the arterial circulation, and the subsequent activation of inflammatory pathways, remain poorly defined. Here, we tested the hypothesis that acute exposure of venous ECs to high shear stress is associated with inflammatory responses that are regulated by NF-κB both in-vitro and ex-vivo. Analysis of the LSV endothelium revealed that activation of NF-κB occurred within 30 min after exposure to arterial rates of shear stress. Activation of NF-κB was associated with increased levels of CCL2 production and enhanced binding of monocytes in LSVECs exposed to 6 h acute arterial WSS. Consistent with this, ex vivo exposure of LSVs to acute arterial WSS promoted monocyte interactions with the vessel lumen. Inhibition of the NF-κB pathway prevented acute arterial WSS-induced CCL2 production and reduced monocyte adhesion, both in vitro and in human LSV ex vivo, demonstrating that this pathway is necessary for the induction of the acute arterial WSS-induced pro-inflammatory response. We have identified NF-κB as a critical regulator of acute endothelial inflammation in saphenous vein in response to acute arterial WSS. Localised endothelial-specific inhibition of the NF-κB pathway may be beneficial to prevent vein graft inflammation and consequent failure.Twistronics is currently one of the most active research fields in condensed matter physics, following the discovery of correlated insulating and superconducting phases in twisted bilayer graphene (tBLG). Here, we present a magnonic analogue of tBLG. We study magnons in twisted ferromagnetic bilayers (tFBL) with collinear magnetic order, including exchange and weak Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions (DMI). For negligible DMI, tFBL presents discrete magnon magic angles and flat moiré minibands analogous to tBLG. The DMI, however, changes the picture and renders the system much more exotic. The DMI in tFBL induces a rich topological magnon band structure for any twist angle. The twist angle turns to a control knob for the magnon valley Hall and Nernst conductivities. Gapped flat bands appear in a continuum of magic angles in tFBL with DMI. In the lower limit of the continuum, the band structure reconstructs to form several topological flat bands. The luxury of twist-angle control over band gaps, topological properties, number of flat bands, and valley Hall and Nernst conductivities renders tFBL a novel device from fundamental and applied perspectives.Glycosylation is a key modification that contributes to determine bioactivity and bioavailability of plant natural products, including that of terpenoids and steviol glycosides (SVglys). Thus, the diversity of SVglys is due to the number, the position and the nature of glycosylations on the hydroxyl groups in C-13 and C-19 of steviol. Despite the intense sweetener property of SVglys and the numerous studies conducted, the SVglys biosynthetic pathway remains largely unknown. Here, we aimed to determine the prognostic factors for survival after gastrostomy placement in routine NIV users, taking into consideration ventilator dependence. Ninety-two routine NIV users ALS patients, who underwent gastrostomy insertion for severe dysphagia and/or weight loss, were included. We used a Cox proportional hazards model to identify factors affecting survival and compared time from gastrostomy to death and 30-day mortality rate between dependent (daily use ≥ 16 h) and non-dependent NIV users. The hazard of death after gastrostomy was significantly affected by 3 factors age at onset (HR 1.047, p = 0.006), body mass index  less then  20 kg/m2 at the time of gastrostomy placement (HR 2.012, p = 0.016) and recurrent accumulation of airway secretions (HR 2.614, p = 0.001). Mean time from gastrostomy to death was significantly shorter in the dependent than in the non-dependent NIV users group (133 vs. 250 days, p = 0.04). The 30-day mortality rate was significantly higher in dependent NIV users (21.4% vs. 2.8%, p = 0.03). Pre-operative ventilator dependence and airway secretion accumulation are associated with worse prognosis and should be key decision-making criteria when considering gastrostomy tube placement in NIV users ALS patients.In this work, several attributes of the internal morphology of drupaceous fruits found in the archaeological site Monte Castelo (Rondonia, Brazil) are analyzed by means of two different imaging methods. The aim is to explore similarities and differences in the visualization and analytical properties of the images obtained via High Resolution Light Microscopy and X-ray micro-computed tomography (X-ray MicroCT) methods. Both provide data about the three-layered pericarp (exo-, meso- and endocarp) of the studied exemplars, defined by cell differentiation, vascularisation, cellular contents, presence of sclerenchyma cells and secretory cavities. However, it is possible to identify a series of differences between the information that can be obtained through each of the methods. These variations are related to the definition of contours and fine details of some characteristics, their spatial distribution, size attributes, optical properties and material preservation. The results obtained from both imaging methods are complementary, contributing to a more exhaustive morphological study of the plant remains. In this study, we used targeted panel sequencing in a cohort of 624 adult and pediatric patients from the Spanish PAH registry. We identified 11 rare variants in the ATP-binding Cassette subfamily C member 8 (ABCC8) gene, most of them with splicing alteration predictions. One patient also carried another variant in SMAD1 gene (c.27delinsGTAAAG). We performed an ABCC8 in vitro biochemical analyses using hybrid minigenes to confirm the correct mRNA processing of 3 missense variants (c.211C > T p.His71Tyr, c.298G > A p.Glu100Lys and c.1429G > A p.Val477Met) and the skipping of exon 27 in the novel splicing variant c.3394G > A. Finally, we used structural protein information to further assess the pathogenicity of the variants. The results showed 11 novel changes in ABCC8 and 1 in SMAD1 present in PAH patients.
