Rigorous study designs are valuable, but much can be learned and accomplished through practical organization-level studies.

The Brazilian Neonatal Resuscitation Program releases guidelines based on local interpretation of international consensus on science and treatment recommendations. We aimed to analyze whether guidelines for preterm newborns were applied to practice in the 20 Brazilian Network on Neonatal Research centers of this middle-income country.

Prospectively collected data from 2014 to 2020 were analyzed for 8514 infants born at 230/7 to 316/7 weeks' gestation. The frequency of procedures was evaluated by gestational age (GA) category, including use of a thermal care bundle, positive pressure ventilation (PPV), PPV with a T-piece resuscitator, maximum fraction of inspired oxygen (Fio2) concentration during PPV, tracheal intubation, chest compressions and medications, and use of continuous positive airway pressure in the delivery room. Logistic regression, adjusted by center and year, was used to estimate the probability of receiving recommended treatment.

For 3644 infants 23 to 27 weeks' GA and 4870 infants 28 to 31 weeks' GA, respectively, the probability of receiving care consistent with guidelines per year increased, including thermal care (odds ratio [OR], 1.52 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.44-1.61] and 1.45 [1.38-1.52]) and PPV with a T-piece (OR, 1.45 [95% CI 1.37-1.55] and 1.41 [1.32-1.51]). The probability of receiving PPV with Fio2 1.00 decreased equally in both GA groups (OR, 0.89; 95% CI, 0.86-0.93).

Between 2014 and 2020, the resuscitation guidelines for newborns <32 weeks' GA on thermal care, PPV with a T-piece resuscitator, and decreased use of Fio2 1.00 were translated into clinical practice.

Between 2014 and 2020, the resuscitation guidelines for newborns less then 32 weeks' GA on thermal care, PPV with a T-piece resuscitator, and decreased use of Fio2 1.00 were translated into clinical practice.

Many medical disciplines incorporate point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) into their practice. Despite well-defined applications, POCUS has not been widely adopted in pediatrics and is not commonly taught during residency. Our objective was to profile the current state of POCUS education in pediatric residency training from the resident perspective.

We surveyed pediatric trainees about their POCUS education, general opinions about POCUS, and perceived barriers to POCUS training in residency. We distributed the survey to a random sample of Ohio pediatric residents, stratified by program size and training level. Descriptive statistics were used to characterize responses.

We sampled 66.4% of the population (371 of 559) of Ohio pediatric residents and achieved a response rate of 59.3%. Only 15% of respondents received POCUS training during residency, with 85% having never performed a POCUS scan. Most (86%) desired POCUS education and 67% believed it should be required during residency. Residents felt that POCUS.Camellia plants include more than 200 species of great diversity and immense economic, ornamental, and cultural values. We sequenced the transcriptomes of 116 Camellia plants from almost all sections of the genus Camellia. We constructed a pan-transcriptome of Camellia plants with 89 394 gene families and then resolved the phylogeny of genus Camellia based on 405 high-quality low-copy core genes. Most of the inferred relationships are well supported by multiple nuclear gene trees and morphological traits. We provide strong evidence that Camellia plants shared a recent whole genome duplication event, followed by large expansions of transcription factor families associated with stress resistance and secondary metabolism. Secondary metabolites, particularly those associated with tea quality such as catechins and caffeine, were preferentially heavily accumulated in the Camellia plants from section Thea. We thoroughly examined the expression patterns of hundreds of genes associated with tea quality, and found that some of them exhibited significantly high expression and correlations with secondary metabolite accumulations in Thea species. We also released a web-accessible database for efficient retrieval of Camellia transcriptomes. The reported transcriptome sequences and obtained novel findings will facilitate the efficient conservation and utilization of Camellia germplasm towards a breeding program for cultivated tea, camellia, and oil-tea plants. The authors requested replacing Figure 2 as there was an error. The details of this error are as follows Representative picture of transwell migration assay, A549 control group (Figure 2E). Representative picture of wound healing assay, 24h, A549 negative control group (Figure 2C). The above pictures were repeated within their own group (control group and negative control group). Representative picture of wound healing assay, 0h, A549 si-PHB2 group (Figure 2C). The authors used the wrong picture during data handling. Changes do not influence the results of the paper. In the original experiment, H1299 and A549 cells were divided into 4 groups (Control, si-PHB2, +PHB2, and negative control). read more Transwell migration assay and wound healing assay were performed 5 times. In addition, these results have been repeated by another research group (PHB2 promotes tumorigenesis via RACK1 in non-small cell lung cancer, Theranostics 2021, Vol. 11, Issue 7). This study investigated the effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic on tinnitus severity and quality of life in individuals with subjective tinnitus.

The study was carried out during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Sixty patients were evaluated with the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory and a visual analogue scale on resonance intensity and disturbance, together with questions assessing their emotional states.

There was a significant difference between the visual analogue scale and the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory scores before the pandemic and during the pandemic. It was determined that tinnitus loudness and annoyance were significantly worse in the pandemic and, consequently, that the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic negatively affected perceptions of tinnitus and quality of life.

Psychological support can affect positively the perception of tinnitus and the change in moods experienced during the pandemic. Because personal contact and quotidian activities are severely limited during the pandemic, internet-based interventions should be prioritised in tinnitus therapy.

In a bid to end the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, many countries, including the UK, have rolled out mass immunisation programmes. While considered generally safe and effective, vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 have been reported to be associated with rare and potentially adverse reactions and side effects.

This paper reports an unusual case of a patient who developed a unilateral vocal fold paralysis shortly after receiving the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca ChAdOx1 nCov-19 vaccine.

To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of vocal fold paralysis following administration of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. The authors support the position that currently approved coronavirus disease 2019 vaccines remain safe and effective; however, further surveillance and vigilance using real-world data are highly encouraged.

To examine the effects of mastoid and middle-ear volume on the anatomical and functional success of type 1 tympanoplasty in paediatric patients.

This study included 45 paediatric patients who underwent type 1 cartilage tympanoplasty. Patients' demographic data, pre- and post-operative audiological evaluation results, and post-operative graft status were evaluated. Middle-ear and mastoid cavity volumes were calculated (in cubic centimetres) using temporal bone high-resolution computed tomography. Middle-ear and mastoid cavity volume values were compared between patients with and without post-operative anatomical and functional success.

Anatomical success was achieved in 82.2 per cent of patients (n = 37), and functional success in 68.9 per cent (n = 31). When anatomical success and failure groups were compared, a statistically significant difference was found in mean mastoid volume (p = 0.037), while there was no significant difference in relation to mean middle-ear volume (p = 0.827). The comparison of functional success and failure groups revealed no significant difference in mean mastoid volume (p = 0.492) or middle-ear volume (p = 0.941).

The study showed that mastoid pneumatisation volume affects surgical success in paediatric tympanoplasty.

Whether the NBD amine in H2S-specific probes could be a fluorescent quencher should be further clarified, because NBD amines have been used as environment-sensitive fluorophores for many years. Here, we compared the properties of NBD-based secondary and tertiary amines under the same conditions. For example, the emission of NBD-N(Et)2 is much smaller in water and less responsive to changes in polarity than that of NBD-NHEt. The emission of NBD-PZ-TPP is also smaller than that of NBD-NH-TPP both in aqueous buffer and in live cells. In addition, confocal bioimaging signals of NBD-PZ-TPP with excitation at 405 nm and 454 nm are much weaker than that at 488 nm. Based on these results as well as the previous work on NBD-based probes, we discuss and summarize the design strategies and sensing mechanisms for different NBD-based H2S probes. Moreover, NBD-PZ-TPP may be a useful tool for reaction with and imaging of mitochondrial H2S in live cells. This work should be useful for clarification of the roles of NBD in H2S-specific fluorescent probes as well as for facilitating the development of future NBD-based probes.Imetelstat, a first-in-class telomerase inhibitor, demonstrated meaningful clinical benefit including a robust symptom response rate and potential overall survival benefit in IMbark, a phase II study in intermediate-2 or high-risk myelofibrosis (MF) patients who have relapsed after or are refractory to JAK inhibitors. We describe the rationale and design for the phase III trial, IMpactMF (NCT04576156), an open-label evaluation of imetelstat versus best available therapy, excluding JAK inhibitors, in MF patients refractory to JAK inhibitor. Imetelstat 9.4 mg/kg is administered as an intravenous infusion every 21 days. Primary objective is to assess overall survival. Secondary objectives include symptom and spleen responses, progression-free survival, clinical response assessment, bone marrow fibrosis reduction, safety and pharmacokinetics. Biomarker, cytogenetics and mutation analyses will be performed.
