Man Down Safety

Across the industry, falling from height remains the leading cause of workplace fatalities. Often this is not just due to a fall, but also by being caught out by a variety of other hazards such as electrical cords, loose mats and untidy work areas.

This can result in an incident that leaves a worker immobile and without the ability to move, call for help or get back up. This is referred to as a Man Down situation and is why it is essential that remote workers are equipped with a man down device that will allow them to contact their employer if they have suffered a fall and need assistance.

A Man Down Alarm will usually work through the use of an accelerometer or Man Down sensor, which will detect a change in position, lack of movement or sudden impact. If one of these is detected, a notification will be sent to the lone worker’s employer to signal that they need assistance and will raise an alert in the StaySafe hub.

The system can also be set to automatically send a notification when the Guard or Lone Worker does not move at all for more than 90 seconds but is still connected with the device. Within this time, the Guard or Lone Worker can undo the sending of a Man Down event by filling in their PIN number or pressing on the Cancel button.

Working alone or in an isolated environment can be dangerous as hazards are often not well controlled. With 28% of non-fatal injuries occurring by slips, trips and falls, a man down solution can provide an extra layer of protection for anyone who works alone or out in the field. lone worker devices
