In children and adolescents with asthma, the disease may reduce the perceived capability to participate in physical activity (PA) contributing to an increase in the sedentary lifestyle. The literature is unclear as to whether children and adolescents with asthma differ their PA levels from their healthy peers.
Our objective was to describe the different methods and instruments used to measure PA and to compare the PA levels of children and adolescents with asthma with those of their healthy peers.
We conducted a systematic review of five databases. We included studies that compared the PA measured by objective and subjective instruments in children and adolescents with asthma versus controls. Two independent reviewers analyzed the studies, extracted the data, and assessed the quality of evidence.
Of the 5966 reports returned by the initial search, 28 articles reporting on 3184 patients were included in the data synthesis. A forest plot showed that both groups had similar values of moderate to vigorous PA (MVPA; mean difference, -0.05 h/day; 95% confidence interval [CI], -0.11-0.01; p = .13), sedentary time (mean difference 0.00 h/day; 95% CI, -0.22-0.23 h/day; p = .99) and steps/day (mean difference 354 steps/day; 95% CI, -563-1270 steps/day; p = .45).

Here we describe a massively parallel 3' end RNA-seq (MP3RNA-seq) method that introduces unique sample barcodes during reverse transcription to permit sample pooling immediately following this initial step. MP3RNA-seq allows for handling of hundreds of samples in a single experiment, at a cost of about $6 per sample for library construction and sequencing. MP3RNA-seq is effective for not only high-throughput gene expression profiling, but also genotyping. To demonstrate its utility, we applied MP3RNA-seq to 477 double haploid lines of maize. We identified 19,429 genes expressed in at least 50% of the lines and 35,836 high-quality single nucleotide polymorphisms for genotyping analysis. Armed with these data, we performed expression and agronomic trait quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping and identified 25,797 expression QTLs for 15,335 genes and 21 QTLs for plant height, ear height, and relative ear height. We conclude that MP3RNA-seq is highly reproducible, accurate, and sensitive for high-throughput gene expression profiling and genotyping, and should be generally applicable to most eukaryotic species.The accumulation of cadmium (Cd) in the human body through food chain can lead to adverse pregnancy outcomes. In this study, Cd cytotoxicity and its mechanisms in HTR-8/SVneo cells were investigated. Cd disrupted the cellular submicrostructure and inhibited the cell viability in a time- and dose-dependent manner. The levels of reactive oxygen species, malondialdehyde content, and the activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and total superoxode dismutase (T-SOD) were concentration-dependently increased by Cd. In addition, Cd dose-dependently inducedcell apoptosis and decreased cell migration and invasion capacities. Finally, Cd significantly upregulated all the genes related to oxidative stress (SOD1, ROS1, and HSPA6), inflammatory response, cell cycle, apoptosis, and migration and invasion. The Northern Territory (NT) Government introduced a minimum unit price (MUP) of $1.30 per standard drink (10g pure alcohol) explicitly aimed at reducing the consumption of cheap wine products from October 2018. We aimed to assess the impact of the NT MUP on estimates of beverage-specific population-adjusted alcohol consumption using wholesale alcohol supply data.
Interrupted time series analyses were conducted to examine MUP effects on trends in estimated per capita alcohol consumption (PCAC) for cask wine, total wine and total alcohol, across the NT and in the Darwin/Palmerston region.
Significant step decreases were found for cask wine and total wine PCAC in Darwin/Palmerston and across the Northern Territory. PCAC of cask wine decreased by 50.6% in the NT, and by 48.8% in Darwin/Palmerston compared to the prior year. PCAC for other beverages (e.g. beer) were largely unaffected by MUP. Overall, PCAC across the Territory declined, but not in Darwin/Palmerston.
