The endocrine system of crustaceans regulates the molt cycle with ecdysteroid hormones, mainly the 20-hydroxyecdysone (20-HE). Moreover, the molt process requires the action of chitinolytic enzymes (e.g., chitinase, chitobiase) to break down the old cuticle. However, endocrine disrupting compounds (EDC) are capable of altering their normal functioning. Glyphosate-based herbicides (GBH), such as Roundup®, the most widely used herbicides, are found in freshwater environments and have been considered EDC for many aquatic organisms. Therefore, this study examined the effects of environmentally relevant GBH concentrations (0.0065, 0.065, and 0.28 mg L-1) on the 20-HE concentration and chitobiase activity in the decapod prawn Macrobrachium potiuna exposed for 14 days. Additionally, lipid peroxidation, a biomarker of membrane lipid degradation, was evaluated in hepatopancreas to assess cellular damage. Results showed that GBH decreased the 20-HE concentration in females at the two highest concentrations tested, while an increase was observed in males exposed to the highest GBH concentration. In addition, GBH also decreased chitobiase activity in males (all concentrations) and females (the two highest concentrations). Finally, GBH caused increased lipid peroxidation in males, indicating cellular damage in the hepatopancreas. In conclusion, this work suggests that GBH is an EDC for crustaceans by disrupting molting, which could lead to altered reproduction and thus population dynamics. The dispersion process is complicated as CO2 is denser than air, and the Joule-Thomson effect causes sharp drop of the temperature. In this study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique was used to investigate the CO2 dispersion. The CFD model is validated by simulating a full-size blasting test. The influence of topography and low temperature at the release source on the dispersion of CO2 released from buried CO2 pipelines over complex terrain types was studied. This study provides a viable method for the assessment of the risks associated with CCS.When compared to general population, patients with rheumatoid arthritis are at higher risk of some malignancies (especially lymphomas and lung cancer). Genetic predisposition, chronic inflammatory stimuli and viral infections are some of the reasons untreated patients are at higher risk. Clinical studies and national/international registries collect the data about the malignancies with higher incidence (such as lung, skin and breast cancer) but on the other hand, malignancies with lower incidence (such as sarcomas) are rarely reported. We report a case of a 47-year-old male with a history of a malignant intracranial chondrosarcoma/osteochondroma who developed seropositive rheumatoid arthritis. Due to progression of erosions, the patient was initialy treated with conventional synthetic Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs (csDMARDs) and later on with rituximab. The patient's rheumatoid arthritis went and remained in remission on maintenance therapy with rituximab (every 6-8 months) and low-dose methotrexate with no relapse of malignant intracranial chondrosarcoma/osteochondroma. Rituximab should be considered as a treatment option in patients with rare and agressive malignancies, such as sarcomas.
In the era of rituximab, the NCCNIPI is widely used in clinical practice as a tool for the prognosis and risk stratification of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). In recent years, FDG PET/CT has also shown unique prognostic value. We try to further confirm the prognostic role of metabolic parameters in the overall and subgroups patients.
We retrospectively analysed 87 DLBCL patients who underwent baseline FDG PET/CT and followed the R-CHOP or R-CHOP-like strategy. The clinical parameters and PET-related metabolic parameters were evaluated.
For all patients, the 2-year PFS rate was 65.5% and the 2-year OS rate was 66.7%. According to Cox multivariate analysis, a high NCCNIPI score (4-8 points) and an MTV greater than 64.1 cm
(defined by ROC) were independent prognostic factors for PFS and OS. The patients were divided into low, low-intermediate, high-intermediate and high-risk groups by NCCNIPI score. The 2-year PFS rates in each group were 90.9%, 71.3%, 33.2% and 16.7%, and the 2-year OS rates were 100%, 81.6%, 48.4% and 16.7%. In the subsequent subgroup analysis by MTV, it could further stratified low-intermediate and high-intermediate NCCNIPI groups, the P value was 0.068 and 0.069 for PFS, 0.078 and 0.036 for OS.
