Multivalent batteries represent an important beyond Li-ion energy storage concept. The prospect of calcium batteries, in particular, has emerged recently due to novel electrolyte demonstrations, especially that of a ground-breaking combination of the borohydride salt Ca(BH4)2 dissolved in tetrahydrofuran. Recent analysis of magnesium and calcium versions of this electrolyte led to the identification of divergent speciation pathways for Mg2+ and Ca2+ despite identical anions and solvents, owing to differences in cation size and attendant flexibility of coordination. To test these proposed speciation equilibria and develop a more quantitative understanding thereof, we have applied pulsed-field-gradient nuclear magnetic resonance and dielectric relaxation spectroscopy to study these electrolytes. Concentration-dependent variation in anion diffusivities and solution dipole relaxations, interpreted with the aid of molecular dynamics simulations, confirms these divergent Mg2+ and Ca2+ speciation pathways. These results provide a more quantitative description of the electroactive species populations. We find that these species are present in relatively small quantities, even in the highly active Ca(BH4)2/tetrahydrofuran electrolyte. This finding helps interpret previous characterizations of metal deposition efficiency and morphology control and thus provides important fundamental insight into the dynamic properties of multivalent electrolytes for next-generation batteries.Xanthene fluorophores, like fluorescein, have been versatile molecules across diverse fields of chemistry and life sciences. Despite the ubiquity of 3-carboxy and 3-sulfonofluorescein for the last 150 years, to date, no reports of 3-phosphonofluorescein exist. Here, we report the synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, and applications of 3-phosphonofluoresceins. The absorption and emission of 3-phosphonofluoresceins remain relatively unaltered from the parent 3-carboxyfluorescein. 3-Phosphonofluoresceins show enhanced water solubility compared to 3-carboxyfluorescein and persist in an open, visible light-absorbing state even at low pH and in low dielectric media while 3-carboxyfluoresceins tend to lactonize. In contrast, the spirocyclization tendency of 3-phosphonofluoresceins can be modulated by esterification of the phosphonic acid. The bis-acetoxymethyl ester of 3-phosphonofluorescein readily enters living cells, showing excellent accumulation (>6x) and retention (>11x), resulting in a nearly 70-fold improvement in cellular brightness compared to 3-carboxyfluorescein. In a complementary fashion, the free acid form of 3-phosphonofluorescein does not cross cellular membranes, making it ideally suited for incorporation into a voltage-sensing scaffold. We develop a new synthetic route to functionalized 3-phosphonofluoresceins to enable the synthesis of phosphono-voltage sensitive fluorophores, or phosVF2.1.Cl. Phosphono-VF2.1.Cl shows excellent membrane localization, cellular brightness, and voltage sensitivity (26% ΔF/F per 100 mV), rivaling that of sulfono-based VF dyes. In summary, we develop the first synthesis of 3-phosphonofluoresceins, characterize the spectroscopic properties of this new class of xanthene dyes, and utilize these insights to show the utility of 3-phosphonofluoresceins in intracellular imaging and membrane potential sensing.Spectrum prediction using deep learning has attracted a lot of attention in recent years. Although existing deep learning methods have dramatically increased the prediction accuracy, there is still considerable space for improvement, which is presently limited by the difference of fragmentation types or instrument settings. In this work, we use the few-shot learning method to fit the data online to make up for the shortcoming. The method is evaluated using ten data sets, where the instruments includes Velos, QE, Lumos, and Sciex, with collision energies being differently set. Experimental results show that few-shot learning can achieve higher prediction accuracy with almost negligible computing resources. For example, on the data set from a untrained instrument Sciex-6600, within about 10 s, the prediction accuracy is increased from 69.7% to 86.4%; on the CID (collision-induced dissociation) data set, the prediction accuracy of the model trained by HCD (higher energy collision dissociation) spectra is increased from 48.0% to 83.9%. It is also shown that, the method is not critical to data quality and is sufficiently efficient to fill the accuracy gap. Here, by combining observational data and simulations, this work aims to understand the diverse air quality response in two city clusters, Yangtze River Delta region (YRD) and Pearl River Delta region (PRD), China. Though there was a noticeable drop in primary pollutants in both the regions, differently, the maximum daily 8 h average ozone (O3) soared by 20.6-76.8% in YRD but decreased by 15.5-28.1% in PRD. In YRD, nitrogen oxide (NOx) reductions enhanced O3 accumulation and hence increased secondary aerosol formation. Such an increment in secondary organic and inorganic aerosols under stationary weather reached up to 36.4 and 10.2%, respectively, which was further intensified by regional transport. PRD was quite the opposite. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/AZD0530.html The emission reductions benefited PRD air quality, while regional transport corresponded to an increase of 17.3 and 9.3% in secondary organic and inorganic aerosols, respectively. Apart from meteorology, the discrepancy in O3-VOCs-NOx relationships determined the different O3 responses, indicating that future emission control shall be regionally specific, instead of one-size-fits-all cut. Overall, the importance of regionally coordinated and balanced control strategy for multiple pollutants is highly emphasized.Various transition-metal oxide (TMO)-based nanomaterials have been explored as peroxidase mimics. However, the moderate peroxidase-like activity of TMOs limited their widespread use. Decorating highly active noble-metal nanozymes on the surface of TMOs can not only enhance the peroxidase-like activity of TMOs but also prevent the small-sized metal nanoparticles (NPs) from aggregation. Herein, in situ exsolution of noble-metal NPs (i.e., Ir and Ru) from A-site-deficient perovskite oxides (i.e., chemical formula La0.9B0.9B'0.1O3-δ, B = Mn/Fe, B' = Ir/Ru) under a reducing atmosphere was achieved for preparing noble-metal NPs/perovskite composites. The exsolved NPs were socketed on the surface of parent perovskite oxides, which significantly enhanced the stability of metal NPs. In addition, the peroxidase-like activity of perovskite oxides increased remarkably after NPs egress. We then used the optimized Ir/LMIO with high stability and excellent peroxidase-like activity to develop a colorimetric assay for the determination of alkaline phosphatase (ALP).
