Triclosan (TCS) is a synthetic antimicrobial compound that has been widely used in consumer products. However, increasing evidence suggests adverse effects of TCS to human health and environment, raising great public concerns. The existing methods for detecting TCS are limited to time-consuming and complicated procedure. Here, we developed a rapid method for capture and detection of TCS using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) based on a silver nanoparticle (Ag NP) core - protein satellite nanostructure. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) assembled on Ag NPs as satellites configuration could anchor a large number of TCS molecules close to the surface of Ag NPs, producing amplified SERS signals. As low as 50 nM TCS standard was successfully detected within 30 min. We also demonstrated its capability for TCS detection in pond water. The developed SERS method holds a great promise for rapid screening of TCS in environmental and food samples. Cascade reservoirs facilitate the effective use of water resources and help to alleviate existing problems of water shortage in drought-prone regions. However, the geochemical behavior and controlling mechanisms of trace metals in response to the operation of cascade reservoirs are relatively unknown. Here, trace metals (As, Cr, Cu, Li, Ni, Pb and Zn) from thirty sediment cores from cascade reservoirs (Panjiakou and Daheiting Reservoirs) in China were evaluated. Multiple methods including geochemical baseline, geostatistical analysis, factor analysis (FA), and positive matrix factorization (PMF), were combined to assess pollution status, identify and quantify potential anthropogenic sources, and determine the influence of hydrodynamic conditions on trace metals distribution. The results indicate that minor enrichment of trace metals appeared in both cascade reservoirs. However, trace metal concentrations exhibited spatial heterogeneity between two cascade reservoirs, and diverse hotspots of different metals woirs, and it suggests that trace metal hotspots should be monitored to prevent potential contamination in sediments. The membrane antifouling and shifts of microbial communities of long-term electric field applied in MBR (EMBR) for treating phenol wastewater was systematically investigated. The increased voltage increased the phenol degradation rate and slowed down the TMP increase rate in EMBR (G1-G4 1.65 × 10-3-8.40 × 10-4 Mpa/d), indicated the enhancement of phenol treatment and mitigation of membrane fouling. Decrease of protein (PN)/polysaccharide (PS) in EPS increased the negative charge and decreased the hydrophobicity of sludge, thus abated its adsorption on membrane surface. The decrease of AHLs concentration attributed to the electrolysis of AHLs by the electro-generated H2O2. Besides, the AHLs had significantly negative correlation with QQ bacteria Rhodococcus and Stenotrophomonas enrichment and positive correlation with QS bacteria Aeromonas decrease in EMBRs, suggesting that coupling effects of voltage and QQ bacteria degraded AHLs, thus decreased EPS content which was positively correlated with AHLs concentration. Biopolymer-degrading genera (Clostridium sensu strict etc.) increased in EMBR and on membrane surface, while biofilm-forming genera (Pseudomonas etc.) decreased on membrane surface. These resulted in EPS content decrease and membrane antifouling. V.The present review article compares NK cell subsets and cytokine patterns determined in the peripheral blood as well as results of functional in-vitro assays using peripheral NK cells of idiopathic recurrent miscarriage (iRM) patients with corresponding results obtained in female healthy controls and female renal transplant recipients with good long-term graft function. Immune mechanisms, inducing transplant rejection in long-term transplant recipients might also be able to induce rejection of semi-allogeneic fetal cells in patients with iRM. Consequently, the immune status of transplant recipients with good stable long-term graft function should be different from the immune status of iRM patients. iRM patients show a strong persistent cytotoxic NK cell response in the periphery. Simultaneously, immunostimulatory Th1 as well as immunosuppressive Th2 type lymphocytes in the blood are strongly activated but plasma levels of immunosuppressive Th2 type cytokines are abnormally low. In-vitro, unstimulated NK cell cultures of iRM patients show a strong spontaneous TGF-ß1 release in the supernatant but lower TGF-ß1 levels after stimulation with tumor cell line K562, suggesting strong consumption of TGF-ß1 by pre-activated NK cells of iRM patients that might contribute to the low systemic Th2 type plasma levels. iRM patients do not show a systemic switch to a Th2 type cytokine pattern and one might hypothesize that low TGF-ß plasma levels indicate low TGF-ß levels in the micromilieu immediately before fetal rejection. Persistent TGF-ß deficiency implies a persistent unfavorable micromilieu for pregnancy resulting in failing tolerance induction due to lack of TGF-ß, a condition that might contribute to iRM. INTRODUCTION Whereas evidence has shown that a sense of purpose is linked to optimal adjustment, longitudinal work investigating the development of purpose identification as well as its effect on psychological functioning among non-Western samples during adolescence is needed. METHODS Three hundred and eighty-seven senior high school students (253 female, 65.37%; mean age = 15.76 years at the first investigation) from Taiwan completed surveys four times beginning in the fall of tenth grade and ending in the spring of eleventh grade with a six-month interval. UNC0379 price Using self-ratings, purpose identification was evaluated in all four assessments and psychological functioning was examined through life satisfaction and depressive symptoms in the first and the last survey. RESULTS Growth curve analyses revealed an increased slope in purpose identification over the first two years of high school, and such a trajectory was similar across boys and girls. Additionally, increases in purpose identification predicted enhanced life satisfaction and reduced depressive symptoms among both boys and girls.
