The present review is designed to summarize the molecular mechanisms pertaining to the neuroprotective effects of curcumin and its nanoformulations. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.OBJECTIVE This study sought to describe the clinical and laboratory procedures and to discuss aspects involved in obtaining satisfactory aesthetics on substrates presenting different colors. CLINICAL CONSIDERATIONS This case report describes the clinical and laboratory procedures for obtaining an optimal esthetic result using different ceramic framework materials veneered with feldspathic ceramic over substrates of different colors. Zirconia frameworks were used for darkened substrates and were reinforced with lithium disilicate for substrates with minimal discoloration. The same feldspathic veneering ceramic was applied to provide similar translucency and color for favorable aesthetics. CONCLUSIONS The materials explored in the present case report presented favorable aesthetic results in masking darkened substrates. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Clinicians should consider the condition and color of the substrate when selecting the restorative material for masking such a condition. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.The role of an innovative Pharmacist Independent Prescriber (PIP) for care homes to optimise medications has not been examined. We explored stakeholders' views on issues and barriers that the PIP might address to inform a service specification for the PIP intervention in older people's care homes. Focus groups (n = 72 participants) and semi-structured interviews (n = 13) undertaken in 2015 across four sites in the United Kingdom captured the views of doctors, pharmacists, care-home managers and staff, residents and relatives. Stakeholders identified their expectations of what service should be provided by PIPs, what might affect their support for the role, and barriers and enablers to providing the service. Transcripts were analysed using the Theoretical Domains Framework to identify key components, which were reviewed by stakeholders in 2016. Vazegepant A PIP service was envisaged offering benefits for residents, care homes and doctors but stakeholders raised challenges including agreement on areas where PIPs might prescribe, contextual barriers in chronic disease management, PIPs' knowledge of older people's medicine, and implementation barriers in integrated team-working and ensuring role clarity. Introducing a PIP was welcomed in principle but conditional on a clearly defined PIP role communicated to stakeholders; collaboration across doctors, PIPs and care-home staff; dialogue about developing the service with residents and relatives, based on trust and effective communication. To embed a PIP service within increasingly complex care-homes provision, the overarching theme from this research was that everyone must "understand each other's systems". © 2020 The Authors. Cardiomyocytes release BNP under stretch. We searched whether malignant mesothelioma cells also secrete BNP and if so, this has a meaningful impact. METHODS Part I Prospectively, patients with pleural lesions on CT having malignant mesothelioma effusions (MME, n = 13) were compared to patients with malignant effusions with pleural lesions (MEa, n = 14). Age-matched patients with ME without pleural lesions (MEb, n = 16) and non-malignant effusions (NME, n = 25) were analysed. Part II Retrospectively, samples from patients with mesothelioma (n = 14), lung cancer (n = 8) or heart failure (n = 9) were used. BNP was measured in pleural fluid and blood/plasma. Part III BNP was assessed in the culture supernatants of benign (MeT-5A) and malignant mesothelioma cell lines (M14K-epithelioid, MSTO-biphasic and ZL34-sarcomatoid) (n = 10 per cell line in three different biological replicates). RESULTS In vitro, BNP concentration was significantly higher in the supernatant of all malignant cell lines than benign ones (P  less then  0.01), denoting BNP's production from the former. The pleural fluid to blood BNP ratio in MME was extremely high in Part I and Part II subjects (28.3 ± 12.1 and 25.9 ± 8.6, respectively) versus 1.1 ± 0.3 and 0.4 ± 0.1 in Part I ME and NME, respectively (P  less then  0.0001), and 0.8 ± 0.1 and 0.4 ± 0.1 in Part II ME and NME, respectively (P  less then  0.0001). BNP ratio ≥2.11 in Part I had 92% sensitivity and 94.5% specificity for MME (P  less then  0.0001). CONCLUSION BNP is secreted from malignant mesothelial cells. In clinical practice, the pleural fluid to blood BNP ratio can help in the diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma. © 2020 Asian Pacific Society of Respirology.OBJECTIVES To evaluate the activity of intravesical mitomycin C (MMC) to ablate recurrent low risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and assess whether it may enable patients to avoid surgical intervention for treatment of recurrence. PATIENTS AND METHODS CALIBER is a phase II feasibility study. Participants were randomised (21) to treatment with four once-weekly MMC 40mg intravesical instillations (chemoablation arm) or surgical management. The surgical group was included to assess feasibility of randomisation. The primary endpoint was complete response to intravesical MMC in the chemoablation arm at three months, reported with exact 95% confidence intervals. Secondary endpoints included time to subsequent recurrence, summarised by Kaplan-Meier methods. RESULTS Between February 2015 and August 2017 82 patients with visual diagnosis of recurrent low risk NMIBC were enrolled from 24 UK hospitals (54 chemoablation, 28 surgical management). Median follow-up was 24 months. Complete response at three monthts reserved.Fifty years ago, Lewis Wolpert defined an important question in developmental biology how are cell fates determined by the positions of cells within a system? He proposed that cells retain positional values as if they lie within a coordinate system and that the interpretation of these values produces patterns in development. He referred to this concept as positional information. Though initially controversial, this concept of positional information has proven to be profoundly influential in developmental biology. One area in which the influence of Wolpert's theoretical work can be clearly demonstrated is the study of limb regeneration in salamanders. Here, we review the work in limb regeneration leading up to Wolpert defining the concept of positional information and how his theory has guided regeneration research over the subsequent 50 years. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
