Background Vulnerable patients from marginalized groups (e.g., people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, black and minority ethnic communities) experience higher rates of ill-health, inequitable access to healthcare and low engagement with screening services. Addressing these disparities and ensuring healthcare provision is impartial and fair is a priority for the United Kingdom (UK) healthcare system. Aim Using Levesque's access conceptual framework, this study explored the views of patients from marginalized groups, specifically on how access to pharmacy services could be improved and their experiences of receiving a medication review service. Method Qualitative data were collected via semi-structured interviews on patient experiences of pharmacy services and how access to these could be improved (n = 10). Interviews of patients who had received a medication review from their pharmacist were also conducted (n = 10). Using an interpretivist approach, five 'demand-side' dimensions of Levesquaccess such services. This study investigated the associations between sex, age, socio-economic status, stress, sense of coherence (SOC), and health (mental wellbeing, depressive symptoms, self-rated health, and subjective health complaints) in Norwegian adolescents aged 13-19 years. Furthermore, the study investigated the potential protective or compensatory role from SOC on the association between stress and health. Methods The study was based on a cross-sectional sample of 1233 adolescents. Data were analyzed with descriptive, comparative, and multiple linear regression analyses. Results Girls reported significantly higher scores on depressive symptoms and subjective health complaints than boys. Stress was significantly and positively associated with depressive symptoms. SOC associated significantly with all outcome variables; and especially with mental wellbeing and depressive symptoms. Significant interaction effects of sex in combination with stress and SOC were found in association with depression and mental wellbeing. Associations were strongest for girls. Conclusion The findings provided support for the significant role of SOC as a coping resource, especially in relation to adolescents' mental health; weaker associations were found with subjective health complains and self-rated health. The findings also mainly supported a compensatory role of SOC on the association between stress and health during adolescence.Novel bone substitute materials need to be evaluated in terms of their osteogenic differentiation capacity and possible unwanted cytotoxic effects in order to identify promising candidates for the therapy of bone defects. The activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is frequently quantified as an osteogenic marker, while various colorimetric assays, like MTT assay, are used to monitor cell viability. In addition, the DNA or protein content of the samples needs to be quantified for normalization purposes. As this approach is time consuming and often requires the analysis of multiple samples, we aimed to simplify this process and established a protocol for the combined fluorescence-based quantification of ALP activity and cell viability within one single measurement. We demonstrate that the fluorogenic substrate 4-methylumbelliferone-phosphate (4-MUP) and the commonly used para-nitrophenylphosphate (p-NPP) produce comparable and highly correlating results. We further show that fluorescein-diacetate (FDA) can be used to quantify both cell viability and cell number without interfering with the quantification of ALP activity. The measurement of additional normalization parameters is, therefore, unnecessary. Therefore, the presented assay allows for a time-efficient, simple and reliable analysis of both ALP activity and cell viability from one sample and might facilitate experiments evaluating the osteogenic differentiation of osteoblast precursor cells.A short self-assembly peptide A6K (H2N-AAAAAAK-OH) with unmodified N- and C-terminus was designed, and the charge distribution model of this short peptide at different pH was established by computer simulation. The pH of the solution was adjusted according to the model and the corresponding self-assembled structure was observed using a transmission electron microscope (TEM). As the pH changes, the peptide will assemble into blocks or nanoribbons, which indicates that the A6K peptide is a pH-responsive peptide. Circular dichroism (CD) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation showed that the block structure was formed by random coils, while the increase in β-turn content contributes to the formation of intact nanoribbons. A reasonable explanation of the self-assembling structure was made according to the electrostatic distribution model and the effect of electrostatic interaction on self-assembly was investigated. This study laid the foundation for further design of nanomaterials based on pH-responsive peptides. The Australian population consumes more salt than recommended and this increases the risk of raised blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. In 2015, a state-wide initiative was launched in the Australian state of Victoria to reduce population salt intake. This study examines whether salt-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviors (KABs) of Victorian adults changed following the first 22 months of a consumer awareness campaign targeting parents. Repeated cross-sectional surveys of adults (18-65 years) recruited from research panels. DL-Thiorphan mw Analyses were weighted to reflect the Victorian population. In both surveys mean age of participants (1584 in 2015 and 2141 in 2018) was 41 years, and 51% were female. This includes 554 parents/caregivers in 2015 and 799 in 2018. Most indicators of KAB remained unchanged. Among parents/caregivers the percentage who agreed limiting salt in their child's diet was important increased by 8% (p = 0.001), and there was a 10% reduction in the percentage who reported placing a saltshaker on the table and a 9% reduction in those who reported their child added salt at the table (both p less then 0.001). Some small adverse effects on other indicators were also observed. During the first 22 months of a salt reduction consumer awareness campaign, there were limited changes in KAB overall, however the target audience reported positive changes regarding their children, which aligned with the campaign messages.
