es in the study area. The present work highlights the pollution load of heavy metals in the river Yamuna and also advocates an urgent attention towards minimizing the health risk of people residing not only along the river banks and surrounding regions but also for city population. The objective of this study is to establish reference values for folic acid in a healthy population of children aged 4-11 years and to examine related epidemiological, dietary and analytical factors. A cross-sectional study of 658 healthy children aged 4-11 years was made. Epidemiological, socioeconomic and dietary variables were analysed, the BMI Z-score was obtained, levels of serum folate and serum vitamin B12 were determined and haematological, iron status and erythropoietic activity parameters were examined. The study data were analysed by non-parametric tests and linear multiple regression. The mean folate value was 8.6 ± 4.6 ng/mL (95% reference interval 2.8-20 ng/mL). A level less then 3 ng/mL (5th percentile) was considered as folate deficiency (4.6% of subjects). No child reported symptoms related to this deficiency. Folate values were significantly lower with age (p less then 0.01), low NSE and low parental educational level (p 0.0001). Vorinostat No relationship was found between folates and the analytical variables. According to multivariate linear regression, the variables significantly associated with serum folate were age, socioeconomic level and vitamin B12.Conclusions Serum folate levels in healthy school children are described. Age, socioeconomic level and serum vitamin B12 are factors associated with folate status. Specific cut-off values for a paediatric population should be defined. What is Known • Folic acid is an essential micronutrient for optimal growth and development; its deficit is associated with adverse health effects. • The studies on their status and deficit are not comparable due to a lack of agreement on appropriate indicators and reference values. What is New • This study reports the levels of serum folate in a large population of healthy schoolchildren, with strict inclusion criteria in a developed country and identifies the associated sociodemographic, dietary and analytical (vitamin B12, iron parameters and erythropoietic activity) factors, avoiding potential confusion. To date, the only treatments developed for poisoning by organophosphorus compounds, the most toxic chemical weapons of mass destruction, have exhibited limited efficacy and versatility. The available causal antidotes are based on reactivation of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which is rapidly and pseudo-irreversibly inhibited by these agents. In this study, we developed a novel series of monoquaternary reactivators combining permanently charged moieties tethered to position 6- of 3-hydroxypyridine-2-aldoxime reactivating subunit. Highlighted representatives (21, 24, and 27; also coded as K1371, K1374, and K1375, respectively) that contained 1-phenylisoquinolinium, 7-amino-1-phenylisoquinolinium and 4-carbamoylpyridinium moieties as peripheral anionic site ligands, respectively, showed efficacy superior or comparable to that of the clinically used standards. More importantly, these reactivators exhibited wide-spectrum efficacy and were minutely investigated via determination of their reactivation kinetics in parallel with molecular dynamics simulations to study their mechanisms of reactivation of the tabun-inhibited AChE conjugate. To further confirm the potential applicability of these candidates, a mouse in vivo assay was conducted. While K1375 had the lowest acute toxicity and the most suitable pharmacokinetic profile, the oxime K1374 with delayed elimination half-life was the most effective in ameliorating the signs of tabun toxicity. Moreover, both in vitro and in vivo, the versatility of the agents was substantially superior to that of clinically used standards. Their high efficacy and broad-spectrum capability make K1374 and K1375 promising candidates that should be further investigated for their potential as nerve agents and insecticide antidotes.

To determine the safe screw trajectory for posterior transarticular fixation of C1-C2 without direct visualisation of C2 lateral masses and by using fluoroscopic landmarks only.

Fluoroscopic models of the craniovertebral region in frontal and sagittal planes were reconstructed using 1-mm interval computed tomography scans of the cervical spine in 30 patients. The imitation model of the screw trajectory was then applied with verification of the exact screw localisation using multiplanar reconstruction. Twenty-seven trajectories for 60 oblique C1-C2 reformations were tested.

In the frontal plane, all correct trajectories passed through the medial waistline point (WstP) of C3 and through the middle of the lateral mass of C1. In the lateral plane, the posterior spinal process-lateral mass (SpLM) point-middle C1 anterior tuberculum point (ATP), middle SpLM-upper ATP, and lower SpLM-odontoid point (ODP)-had relatively low rates of vertebral artery (VA) injury (2.3%, 4.6%, and 7%, respectively) and other screw malpositions (6.9%, 4.6%, and 4.6%, respectively). In cases of an isthmus height exceeding 8mm, there were no incidences of VA injury. Patients with an isthmus width greater than 7mm had a lower risk of screw malposition.

We identified potentially safe trajectories for percutaneous posterior transarticular fixation of C1-C2. Using SpLM, ATP, and ODP landmarks in the lateral plane, and WstP and C1 middle landmarks in the frontal plane, it is possible to achieve an acceptable screw position without direct visualisation of the C2 lateral mass.

The sorption isotherms at different temperatures were calculated using the Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) method and using the Langmuir adsorption model to fit those isotherms. To investigate the effect of the number of graphene oxide layers on the adsorption process, methane adsorption isotherms were calculated for graphene oxide with 1, 2, and 3 layers. The adsorption parameters including Langmuir adsorption constant, the entropy and the enthalpy of adsorption, collision flux, the rate of adsorption, and the rate of desorption were investigated in this work. The highest amount of adsorption calculated is related to graphene oxide three layers. The methane diffusion coefficients and diffusion activation energies were estimated at different temperatures by MD simulation coupled with Einstein relationship. The maximum diffusion coefficient calculated of methane at 348 K was 49 × 10-10 m2/s.
