The frequency of HLA-DR+ CD38+ MAIT cells was associated with the PMR activity score and CRP levels in patients in remission. CONCLUSION The inflammatory cytokine-producing capacity and expression of activation markers of CD8+ T and innate-like T cells were associated with the disease activity of PMR. MAIT cell activation in patients in remission may contribute to the subclinical activity of the disease. © The Author(s) 2020. Substituting caloric sweeteners with noncaloric sweeteners reduces available energy, but their effects on appetite, subsequent food intake, and neurocognitive responses are still unclear. OBJECTIVE The aim was to examine whether sweetness with or without calories influences food intake, appetite, blood glucose concentrations, and attentional bias (AB) to food cues. METHODS This was a randomized, controlled, double-blind crossover study. Healthy participants [n = 20; aged 27 ± 5 y, 55% female; BMI (kg/m2) 21.8 ± 1.5] completed 5 visits, consuming 5 study beverages 330 mL water (control, no sweet taste, no calories) and either 330 mL water containing 40 g glucose or sucrose (sweet taste; calories, both 160 kcal), maltodextrin (no sweet taste; calories, 160 kcal), or 240 ppm stevia (sweet taste, no calories). Glucose and stevia beverages were matched for sweetness. Subjective appetite ratings and blood glucose were measured at baseline and at 15fic effect of a stevia beverage consumed prior to a meal on appetite and energy intake in healthy adults. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the activities of rifampicin, rifabutin and rifapentine in osteoblast infection models. For permissions, please email journals.permissions@oup.com.BACKGROUND Dengue is commonly considered an acute illness and follows three phases febrile, critical in some cases and recovery. However, a number of studies have described a continuation of dengue symptoms for weeks or months, extending the recovery phase. Here we evaluate this persistence of dengue symptoms during convalescence. METHODS Our clinical cohort study included patients who sought medical services 48 to 144 h from the onset of fever at seven hospitals or ambulatory centers in Morelos, Mexico. Seventy-nine laboratory-confirmed dengue patients were followed up regularly using clinic and/or home visits and telephone calls for as long as symptoms persisted or up to 6 mo. RESULTS In total, 55.7% of patients had dengue-related symptoms 1 mo after the onset of fever; pain and dermatological manifestations were the most common persistent symptoms. Prognostic factors for symptom persistence were ≥4 d of fever (RR 1.72; 95% CI 1.35 to 2.19), platelet count ≤100 000/mm3 (RR 1.20; 95% CI 1.20 to 2.20), petechiae/bruises (RR 1.97; 95% CI 1.56 to 2.48) and abdominal pain/hepatomegaly (RR 1.79; 95% CI 1.41 to 2.28). CONCLUSIONS Persistence of dengue symptoms were common in laboratory-confirmed dengue patients. Manifestations related to tissue damage were associated with persistence after 30 d; host characteristics, such as age and health status before infection, were associated with prolonged persistence (>60 d). Data on human corpses are always collected and evaluated in isolated cases. This study aimed to list the insect species associated with crime scenes investigated by the Technical-Scientific Institute of criminal expertise of the State of Rio Grande do Norte (ITEP-RN), in the Northeast of Brazil, a region exposed to high homicide rates. In total, 10 cases were investigated, of which 50% were in the initial stage of decomposition. The examined bodies were colonized by species of three orders of insects, Diptera, Coleoptera and Hymenoptera. The order Diptera represented 96% of the total insects, being represented by the following species Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann) (Diptera Calliphoridae), Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius) (Diptera Calliphoridae), Chrysomya putoria (Wiedemann) (Diptera Calliphoridae), and Cochliomyia macellaria, (Fabricius) (Diptera Calliphoridae); Musca domestica (Linnaeus) (Diptera Muscidae); and unidentified females of the Sarcophagidae family. Among beetles, the occurrence of Dermestes maculatus (DeGeer) (Coleoptera Dermestidae), Necrobia rufipes (De Geer) (Coleoptera Cleridae), and Onthophagus sp. (Scarabaeidae), as well as unidentified specimens of the families Tenebrionidae and Histeridae were recorded. In addition, specimens of Ectatomma sp. (Formicidae) were also recorded. Considering that the Rio Grande do Norte state presents a high homicide rate and the last cadaver study was conducted over a decade ago, these records update the list of species associated with cadaveric decomposition and contribute to consolidate forensic entomology in the Northeast region. © The Author(s) 2020.
