Antimicrobial use in companion animals is a largely overlooked contributor to the complex problem of antimicrobial resistance. Humans and companion animals share living spaces and some classes of antimicrobials, including those categorised as Highest Priority Critically Important Antimicrobials (HPCIAs). Veterinary guidelines recommend that these agents are not used as routine first line treatment and their frequent deployment could offer a surrogate measure of 'inappropriate' antimicrobial use. Anthropological methods provide a complementary means to understand how medicines use makes sense 'on-the-ground' and situated in the broader social context. This mixed-methods study sought to investigate antimicrobial use in companion animals whilst considering the organisational context in which increasing numbers of veterinarians work. Its aims were to i) to epidemiologically analyse the variation in the percentage of antimicrobial events comprising of HPCIAs in companion animal dogs attending UK clinics belonging ays of working with antimicrobials. Fieldwork revealed how the structure of the companion animal veterinary sector was more fluid than that depicted in the statistical model, and identified opportunities and challenges regarding altering antimicrobial use. The cost-effectiveness of annual mass dog vaccination programmes, as a control and elimination method, has been advocated on many occasions. Complementary methods, such as animal birth control (ABC) activities, have received less attention. This paper provides a case-study of a programme operated by Help in Suffering (HIS) in Jaipur, India from 1994/95 until 2016/17 comprising both ABC and additional vaccination-only activities. The availability of cost data alongside information on dog numbers, dog bites and human rabies cases provided an exceptionally detailed and unique retrospective dataset recording actual events and expenditures. Updated to 2016/17 prices, the total cost of the programme was 658,744 USD. Since 2007/2008, activity costs have been separated and returned costs of 10.78 USD per dog, both sterilised and vaccinated, and 1.86 USD per dog, vaccinated only. Over the course of the prograest notional monetary value of one year's GDP is assigned to represent the human capital or production value of DALYs averted, the discounted societal economic benefit reaches 38.48 million USD and implies a benefit-cost ratio of 58.4. These economic analyses demonstrate that ABC activities in combination with additional vaccination efforts can be a cost-effective control measure for dog-mediated human rabies.A non-coding RNA (ncRNA) is a kind of RNA that is not converted into protein, however, it is involved in many biological processes, diseases, and cancers. Numerous ncRNAs have been identified and classified with high throughput sequencing technology. Hence, accurate ncRNAs class prediction is important and necessary for further study of their functions. Several computation techniques have been employed to predict the class of ncRNAs. Recent classification methods used the secondary structure as their primary input. However, the computational tools of RNA secondary structure are not accurate enough which affects the final performance of ncRNAs predictors. In this paper, we propose a simple yet efficient method, called ncRDeep, for ncRNAs prediction. It uses a simple convolutional neural network and RNA sequence information only. The ncRDeep was evaluated on benchmark datasets and the comparison results showed that the ncRDeep outperforms the state-of-the-art methods significantly. Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGFI) is one of several growth factors which is induced by growth hormone (GH), which activates the Janus kinase 2 (JAK2)-signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 (STAT5) pathway, and plays crucial roles in normal human growth, metabolism, and systemic energy homeostasis. However, little is known about the negative regulation of IGF-I production under different physiological or pathological conditions. Herein, we explore whether activation of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress regulates IGF-I production and normal body growth.

C57BL/6J mice were challenged with tunicamycin (Tm) to induce ER stress activation. 24h after stimulation, hepatic mRNA expression was analyzed by RNA-Seq and validated by qPCR. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed 24h after Tm stimulation. Body growth was determined 16days after Tm stimulation. Animals were then sacrificed and liver tissues were collected for further analysis.

Mice challenged with Tm displayed a retardation of growth. Molecularly, we found that ER stress inhibited phosphorylation of STAT5. IGF-I transcription and circulating IGF-I were also dramatically decreased under ER stress activation. Moreover, our results demonstrate that IGF-I administration ameliorates Tm-induced growth retardation.
