Importantly, there was 100% agreement that the all specimens should be reported using the Royal College of Pathologists Guidelines as the minimum acceptable dataset. In addition, two weak recommendations regarding method and duration of specimen fixation were made. Four topics lacked sufficient evidence and no recommendation was made.

These consensus recommendations provide explicit guidance for gastroesophageal cancer specimen preparation and assessment, to provide maximum benefit for patient care and standardize reporting to allow benchmarking and improvement of surgical quality.

Most social workers may encounter substance use in their work with clients and need effective therapeutic strategies for this issue. Since the 1980s, solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) has been practiced with clients who have substance use problems, and clinical training materials have been developed to help practitioners learn and use SFBT in substance use treatment. Despite the longevity of the use of SFBT in practice, there are no published reviews of outcome studies to guide practitioners using SFBT. This article fills a gap in current literature on SFBT and substance use treatment by reviewing the published studies on SFBT where the focus was on substance use treatment. Five databases were searched to identify eligible studies. Experts and reference lists of relevant studies were also consulted. Nine studies were identified and included in the review. All studies reviewed found promising evidence on SFBT's effectiveness in improving substance use behaviors and related psychosocial problems. Five of the nine studies reviewed showed that SFBT can change substance use and comorbid mental health and psychosocial problems such as depression, trauma, and school- and work-related behavior problems. The article concludes with a discussion of the study results' implications for clinical practice and future research.

Sinomenii Caulis (QingFengTeng) and Ramulus Cinnamomi (GuiZhi) are traditional Chinese drugs that have been used for anti-inflammation. In this study, the team plans to find out the material basis of a Chinese herb combination composed of the two herbs with different ratios.

The extracts of the herbal compound with various ratios obtained from ethanol extraction were analyzed by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS) and gas chromatography coupled mass spectrometry to identify the basic chemical compounds. Simultaneously, the contents of the eight main components (sinomenine, magnoflorine, laurifoline, dauricine, coumarin, cinnamyl alcohol, cinnamic acid and cinnamaldehyde) from herb formula were determined by gradient elution by high-performance liquid chromatography. Furthermore, the content of sinomenine and cinnamaldehyde were determined by isocratic elution, respectively.

Eighteen compounds in the herb formula were idenion of chemical compounds in different samples of QingFengTeng-GuiZhi decoction.

Digital chest drainage systems allow real-time and continuous monitoring and recording of air leak flow rate and intrapleural pressure (IPP) from the immediate postoperative period to the chest drainage removal. A multicentre retrospective observational analysis of consecutive patients undergoing pulmonary lobectomy for lung cancer was performed to evaluate the association between the airflow and IPP digitally recorded during the immediate postoperative period after video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) lobectomy for lung cancer. Here, we present a work in progress report.

All patients treated with VATS lobectomies for lung cancer were included. Multiple airflow measurements and minimum and maximum IPP through the chest tubes were digitally monitored and recorded using microelectronic mechanical sensor technology. The PALs were defined as an air leak lasting >5 days from the conclusion of the surgical procedure. The cessation of air leaks was defined as an airflow <10 ml/min during 6 consecutive hours.

This analysis comprised 76 patients who underwent VATS lobectomy for lung cancer. Nineteen patients (25%) showed prolonged air leaks (PAL) (≥5 days). The operative time was higher in the PAL group (mean difference = 44 min) without a statistically significant difference. Before the 7th postoperative hours, there were no statistically significant differences in IPPs.

Patients with PAL showed less negative IPP in the first 24 postoperative hours. Therefore, the 7th-24th postoperative hours were critical in PAL prediction since the mechanism for PAL seems to develop after the 7th postoperative hour.

Issues include the increased volume of the circuit leading to haemodilution; the sequestration of lipophilic drugs within the circuit tubing; and the absorption of proteins, especially albumin, onto the circuit, which can result in increased free drug. However, in this context, the aspect of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics during minimally invasive extracorporeal circulation has not been described and evidenced by scientific studies. In this single-centre control study of 60 patients undergoing isolated coronary artery bypass grafting, we present the results focused on postoperative albumin values and intraoperative propofol dosages in patients undergoing surgery with minimally invasive (n = 30) versus conventional extracorporeal circulation (n = 30). In the minimally invasive extracorporeal circulation group, a lower propofol dosage titrated to a bispectral index of 40-45 was used during coronary artery bypass grafting, and an improvement of postoperative concentration of serum albumin was observed compared to the conventional extracorporeal circulation group.
