t sessions, suggesting a dose-dependent effect. In some cases, maculopathy progression, including enlargement of geographic atrophy, occurred years after completion of systemic therapy. These findings may have important implications for patient education and ophthalmic monitoring.

Carbapenem-resistant (CR) Acinetobacter baumannii has been increasingly recognized as a major cause of health care-associated infections in critically ill patients and hospital outbreaks.

A narrative review of literature was conducted, searching PubMed database for articles on CR Acinetobacter spp. isolates from Italy published between January 2010 and December 2019.

CR A. selleck products baumannii isolates assigned to international clonal lineage II (ICL II) and to ST78 clonal lineages were responsible for several epidemics in Italian hospitals during 2002-2018. Molecular analysis of carbapenem resistance showed the presence of OXA-58 CHDL in A. baumannii isolates assigned to ICL II and ST78 clonal lineage, which was replaced by OXA-23 CHDL in A. baumannii isolates assigned to ICL II since 2007 in several hospitals. CR A. baumannii was mainly responsible for respiratory tract infections and at a lesser extent for sepsis in intensive care unit patients.

Our data reinforces the need to monitor the molecular epidemiology of CR A. baumannii and its associated antimicrobial resistance genes at national level.

Tunnel construction workers are exposed to complex mixtures of toxic agents, some of which are known to be genotoxic. The aim of this study was to evaluate the genotoxic risk in this occupational setting by comparing tunnel workers with a control group for frequencies of nuclear aberrations in oral exfoliated cells.

To evaluate the genotoxic effects of tunnel air pollutants, we conducted a cross-sectional, molecular epidemiological study (35 tunnel workers and 35 healthy controls) using the buccal micronucleus cytome assay. A questionnaire was administered to obtain information about demographic variables, lifestyle, dietary habits, anthropometric data, and occupational history. Buccal mucosa cells were collected by scraping the buccal mucosa with a small-headed toothbrush. Coded slides were examined blind by trained scorers for micronuclei (MN), nuclear buds (NBUD), and other nuclear abnormalities.

Road tunnel construction workers revealed higher frequencies of cells with genotoxic damage (i.e., MN andm the complexity of effects (cytotoxic and genotoxic) probably induced by fumes and dust produced in underground operations.A health promotion program was conducted in the Veneto Region in Italy. Participants were screened for non-communicable diseases and were referred to the nutrition clinic. The aim of this study was to assess the adherence to the Mediterranean diet in the Italian population by using the "PREvención con DIeta MEDiterránea" questionnaire. The data showed that 63% of the participants were overweight, 57% presented hypercholesterolemia, 36% were hypertensive and 43% had high blood glucose levels. The results highlighted a low consumption of protective foods against non-communicable diseases such as fruit, vegetables, fresh fish, legumes and oily dried fruit. Overall, only 6% of the subjects who visited the nutritional clinic had the maximum adherence to the Mediterranean diet, 73% had an average adherence, followed by 21% with low adherence. Multivariable analysis between risk factors and socio-demographic characteristics and the adherence to Mediterranean diet revealed that male gender relates directly (p =0.002, AOR = 2.95) to a low adherence. There are three criteria in the questionnaire for a point in favour of Mediterranean diet which we believe to be inadequate, as they are not in accordance with the Italian guidelines for healthy eating. The "PREvención con DIeta MEDiterránea" questionnaire, if associated with a food frequency questionnaire or a food intake record, could become a useful tool for nutritional counseling in our Country. Many of the devastating pandemics and outbreaks of last centuries have been caused by enveloped viruses. The recent pandemic of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‑19) has seriously endangered the global health system. In particular, hospitals have had to deal with a frequency in the emergency room and a request for beds for infectious diseases never faced in the last decades. It is well-known that hospitals are environments with a high infectious risk. Environmental control of indoor air and surfaces becomes an important means of limiting the spread of SARS-CoV-2. In particular, to preserve an adequate indoor microbiological quality, an important non-pharmacological strategy is represented by Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and finishing materials. Starting from the SARS-CoV-2 transmission routes, the paper investigates the hospital risk analysis and management, the indoor air quality and determination of microbial load, surface management and strategies in cleaning activities, HVAC systems' management and filters' efficiency. In conclusion, the paper suggests some strategies of interventions and best practices to be taken into considerations for the next steps in design and management. The wide variation in size and content of eukaryotic genomes is mainly attributed to the accumulation of repetitive DNA sequences, like microsatellites, which are tandemly repeated DNA sequences. Sea turtles share a diploid number (2n) of 56, however recent molecular cytogenetic data have shown that karyotype conservatism is not a rule in the group. In this study, the heterochromatin distribution and the chromosomal location of microsatellites (CA)n, (GA)n, (CAG)n, (GATA)n, (GAA)n, (CGC)n and (GACA)n in Chelonia mydas, Caretta caretta, Eretmochelys imbricata and Lepidochelys olivacea were comparatively investigated. The obtained data showed that just the (CA)n, (GA)n, (CAG)n and (GATA)n microsatellites were located on sea turtle chromosomes, preferentially in heterochromatic regions of the microchromosomes (mc). Variations in the location of heterochromatin and microsatellites sites, especially in some pericentromeric regions of macrochromosomes, corroborate to proposal of centromere repositioning occurrence in Cheloniidae species.
