This study explored the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between everyday emotion dimensions and internalizing symptoms during the transition to early adolescence. We tested associations between children's intensity and instability of daily negative emotions (NE), positive emotions (PE), and daily NE differentiation (NED) with children's self-reported and their mothers' report of children's internalizing symptoms, across six waves, each wave separated by six months.

During each wave, children reported on PE (i.e. happy and joyful) and NE (i.e. mad, sad, and stressed) up to eight random times per day through smartphone-based EMA. Children and mothers reported on children's internalizing symptoms at each wave. The lateral and caudal surfaces of the quadrate are well exposed in two specimens revealing morphologies typical of early birds and their dinosaurian close relatives like a small otic head and two mandibular condyles. However, both skeletons exhibit quadrates with a unique, enlarged lateral crest that has not been previously described among Mesozoic birds. learn more It is possible that the rostral surface of this lateral expansion served as the origination site for enlarged jaw musculature in a manner similar to the enlarged subcapitular tubercle in extant galloanserine birds. The caudally concave surface of the quadrate likely reflects some aspect of cranial pneumaticity, with its shape and position reminiscent of quadrates found in close non-avialan maniraptoran relatives. It is possible that this lateral crest has a wider distribution among enantiornithines and other early birds and that the crest has been misidentified as the orbital process in some more damaged specimens. In addition, the enlarged lateral mandibular condyle (relative to the medial condyle) differs from the condition typically reported among enantiornithines and could indicate a difference in jaw function or mechanics in this bird with an elongated rostrum, or simply misinterpretations of morphology. Further examination of the quadrate in temporally early and phylogenetically stemward birds, along with their close outgroups, could greatly impact the study of several different aspects of bird biology including assessment of phylogenetic relationships, interpretation of the function and kinematics of the skull, reconstruction of foraging paleoecology, and evolution of skull morphological diversity among Mesozoic birds.In this retrospective study, we investigated the influence of chemotherapy and immunotherapy on thromboembolic risk among United States Veterans with lung cancer during their first 6 months (180 days) following initiation of systemic therapy. Included patients received treatment with common front-line agents that were divided into four groups chemotherapy alone, immunotherapy alone, combination of chemo- and immunotherapies, and molecularly targeted therapies (control group). The cohort experienced a 7·4% overall incidence of thrombosis, but the analysis demonstrated significantly different rates among the different groups. We explored models incorporating multiple confounding variables as well as the competing risk of death, and these results indicated that both chemo- and immunotherapies were associated with an increased incidence of thrombosis, either alone or combined, compared with the control group (7·56%, P = 2.2 × 10-16 ; 10·2%, P = 2.2 × 10-16 ; and 7·87%, P = 2.4 × 10-14 respectively vs. 4·10%). However, in times of isolation, what might be most salient to people are the meaningful aspects of their lives that have disappeared. This study seeks to understand how making gained versus lost meaning salient affects anxiety and depression. Participants either wrote for 5 minutes about how their life gained meaning (n = 29) or lost meaning (n = 30) due to the coronavirus restrictions, or about music (i.e., the control condition; n = 32). Those who wrote about gained meaning experienced less momentary anxiety than those who wrote about lost meaning. In addition, meaning salience moderated the relationship between meaning and both anxiety and depression. Those who wrote about gained meaning appeared to exhibit a positive relationship between meaning in life (MIL) and both anxiety and depression, while those who wrote about lost meaning exhibited negative relationships. We present equations for assessing prediction error in direct and indirect responses to selection that integrate uncertainty in genetic parameters used for prediction and sampling effects during selection. Using these, we analyzed a selection experiment on floral traits replicated in two taxa of the Dalechampia scandens (Euphorbiaceae) species complex for which G-matrices were obtained from a diallel breeding design. After four episodes of bidirectional selection, direct and indirect responses remained within wide prediction intervals, but appeared different from the predictions. Combined analyses with structural-equation models confirmed that responses were asymmetrical and lower than predicted in both species. We show that genetic drift is likely to be a dominant source of uncertainty in typically-dimensioned selection experiments in plants and a major obstacle to predicting short-term evolutionary trajectories.
