How to Repair Common Oven Parts

Oven is a kitchen appliance that is commonly used to cook food. The heat of the oven sterilizes food and kills the majority of microorganisms.

An accurate oven thermometer is an essential for bakers of all kinds. Knowing how your oven functions will help improve your baking and roasting skills, and eliminate those irritated hot spots that wreak havoc with cookies, cakes and other baked products.

Thermostat

The thermostat is an important element of your oven. It is used to ensure that the temperature of food corresponds to the temperature you set on the control panel. It could be a problem as with any other sensor or switch that is electro-mechanical. The oven may overheat or underheat, or simply not keep the temperature you have set.

The oven thermostat is essentially a small strip of two different metals bonded together. When heated by the oven, the metals expand or bend at different rates. This creates an electrical circuit. When the metal in your thermostat reaches the temperature that you have set on your control panel, it will turn off the heating element's power. As hob and oven , the bimetallic strip contracts, re-establishing the circuit and turning on the heating element. This process is repeated over and over to ensure a constant temperature in your oven.

The three-layer design helps reduce the temperature of the broil element, making it safer than older designs.

While you may use any heating element in your oven, it is important to select one that is compatible with the rated wattage of your oven. A different wattage may damage your oven, or cause it overheat. The current and voltage ratings of the new heating elements can be found on the control panel of your oven. This allows you to determine the ratings and wattage of your oven.

Examine the resistance of your old element, then compare it to the wattage rating of the new one. The greater the resistance of an oven element the more power it draws.

If your broiler heating element is not working or functions at all, you must replace it immediately. Your oven needs to function correctly to to cook your favorite foods. Light Bulb and Assembly
