Though people who inject drugs (PWID) make up the majority of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) epidemic, concerns about adherence often exclude PWID from receiving direct-acting antiviral (DAA) medication. The most effective models of HCV care to promote sustained virologic response (SVR) and high adherence need to be evaluated.
We conducted a prospective cohort study in three opioid treatment programs (OTPs) in the Bronx, NY. Participants, in collaboration with providers, chose one of three models of onsite care directly observed therapy (mDOT),group treatment (GT), or self-administered individual treatment (SIT). SVR12, daily adherence, and participant characteristics were compared between groups.
Of 61 participants, the majority were male (62%) and Latino (67%), with a mean age of 53 (SD 9). Participants received DAAs via one of three models of care mDOT (21%), GT (25%), or SIT (54%). The majority (59%) used illicit drugs during treatment. Overall, SVR12 was 98% with no differences between models of care mDOT (100%), GT (100%), and SIT (97%) (p=1.0). Overall, daily adherence was 73% (SD 16); 86% among those who chose mDOT compared to 71% among those who chose GT (p<0.01) and 73% among those who chose SIT (p<0.01).
Despite ongoing illicit drug use and suboptimal adherence, SVR12 was high among PWID treated onsite at an OTP using any one of three models of care.Shared decision making in real world settings may be key to choosing the appropriate model of care for PWID.

Prenatal depression (PND) negatively affects the health and well-being of both mother and child. The aim of this study was to identify the direct and indirect determinants of prenatal depression symptoms (PNDS) among Arab-Bedouin women in southern Israel.
Data collection was conducted in two women's health centers from October 2017 to February 2018.
Participants were recruited during visits to women's health centers in southern Israel.
We recruited 376 Arab-Bedouin women as part of a larger study of perinatal health and well-being. We recruited 376 Arab-Bedouin women as part of a larger study of perinatal health and well-being. All women were 18+ years of age and 26-38 weeks of gestational age.
PNDS were measured by an Arabic version of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. We computed path analyses to identify direct and indirect determinants of PND and estimated the contribution of stressful life events and social support.
Positive direct associations emerged between stressful life events, hducing stress and increasing social support, via PND awareness might be successful in reducing PND and possibly future postpartum depression.Stomata control trade-offs for plants carbon dioxide uptake for photosynthetic growth and water loss via transpiration. While agrochemical control of transpiration is an old concept, recent discoveries of the core signaling components controlling stomatal function and numbers opened the door to develop chemical compounds with high potency and specificity. ABA agonists with potent anti-transpiration activity have been developed via in silico virtual screens and structure guided design and synthesis. Library-based chemical screens identified new compounds that influence stomatal movement in ABA-independent manners as well as those affecting stomatal numbers and division polarity. Subsequent hit compound derivatization can be employed to separate adverse side effects. Ultimately, such chemicals might help in optimizing plant productivity and water use in agriculture and florist industries. The 16p11.2 BP4 and BP5 region, is a recurrent ∼600kb copy number variant (CNV), and deletions are one of the most frequent etiologies of neurodevelopmental disorders and autism spectrum disorder with an incidence of approximately 1/2000. Deletion carriers have delays in early neurodevelopment that most specifically impair speech, phonology and language in 70%. Intelligence quotient is shifted 1.8 standard deviations lower than family controls without the deletion. Other common neurobehavioral conditions include motor coordination difficulties (60%) and autism (20-25%). Unprovoked seizures are common (24%) and readily treated and resolve with age in many. Obesity evolves throughout childhood and by adulthood 75% are obese. Congenital anomalies are more common than the general population. The deletion is associated with an increase in brain volumes across all areas of the brain, changes in the white matter microstructural properties, and early electrophysiological cortical responses from auditory cortex. Studies of genetically defined conditions, particularly CNVs that are not associated with profound disabilities, provide homogeneity to study genetic impact on brain development, structure, and function to better understand complex neurobehavioral phenotypes such as autism. The sustainable land management program (SLMP) of Ethiopia aims to improve livelihoods and create resilient communities and landscape to climate change. Soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration is one of the key co-benefits of the SLMP. The objective of this study was to estimate the spatial dynamics of SOC in 2010 and 2018 (before and after SLMP) and identify the SOC sequestration hotspots at landscape scale in four selected SLMP watersheds in the Ethiopian highlands. click here The specific objectives were to 1) comparatively evaluate SOC sequestration estimation model building strategies using either a single watershed, a combined dataset from all watersheds, and leave-one-watershed-out using Random Forest (RF) model; 2) map SOC stock of 2010 and 2018 to estimate amount of SOC sequestration and potential; 3) evaluate the impacts of SLM practices on SOC in four SLMP watersheds. A total of 397 auger composite samples from the topsoil (0-20 cm depth) were collected in 2010, and the same number of samples were collected fical and various forms of tillage practices on SOC using partial dependency algorithms of prediction models. No tillage (NT) increased SOC in all watersheds. The combination of physical and biological interventions ("bunds + vegetations" or "terraces + vegetations") resulted in the highest SOC stock, followed by the biological intervention. The achievable SOC stock analysis showed that further SOC stock sequestration of up to 13.7 Mg C ha--1 may be possible in the Adi Tsegora, 15.8 Mg C ha-1 in Gafera, 33.2 Mg C ha-1 in Azuga suba and 34.7 Mg C ha-1 in Yesir watersheds.
