Nanozymes with unique enzyme-like catalytic properties and versatile functionalities are particularly attractive for the treatment of bacterial infections, especially for combating drug-resistant bacteria. However, inherently low catalytic activity significantly limits their antibacterial performance. Herein, a new near-infrared II (NIR-II) light responsive nanozyme (Cu2 MoS4 nanoplates, CMS NPs) is developed for efficient eradication of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. CMS NPs with intrinsic dual enzyme-like property can generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) by catalysis. Importantly, CMS NPs show NIR-II light enhanced oxidase- and peroxidase-like catalytic activities to improve ROS generation for highly efficient killing of bacteria. In vitro results demonstrate that CMS NPs (40 µg mL-1 ) achieve rapid killing of 8 log MDR Escherichia coli and 6 log MDR Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) under NIR-II light irradiation (1064 nm, 1 W cm-2 ) in 10 min. Moreover, CMS NPs exhibit excellent therapeutic efficacy of MDR S. aureus infection in vivo as well as negligible toxicity to cells and animals, indicating their potential use as antibacterial agents. This work provides a novel antibacterial strategy by combining the catalytic generation of ROS and NIR-II photothermal effect of nanozymes for efficient treatment of MDR bacteria-related infections.APOBEC3 (A3) proteins are a family of host antiviral restriction factors that potently inhibit various retroviral infections, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1. To overcome this restriction, HIV-1 virion infectivity factor (Vif) recruits the cellular cofactor CBFβ to assist in targeting A3 proteins to a host E3 ligase complex for polyubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation. Intervention of the Vif-A3 interactions could be a promising therapeutic strategy to facilitate A3-mediated suppression of HIV-1 in patients. In this structural snapshot, we review the structural features of the recently determined structure of human A3F in complex with HIV-1 Vif and its cofactor CBFβ, discuss insights into the molecular principles of Vif-A3 interplay during the arms race between the virus and host, and highlight the therapeutic implications.

We tested relationships of controlling and less controlling forms of parental promotion and limitation of eating with food intake and appetitive behaviors assessed in preschoolers' normal school environments.
As part of a 5-day protocol, preschoolers consumed standardized lunches, and caloric compensation, eating rate and eating in the absence of hunger were assessed. Feeding practices were measured using the Child Feeding Questionnaire (CFQ) and Parent Feeding Styles Questionnaire (PFSQ). CFQ-Pressure to eat and CFQ-Restriction were controlling forms of promotion/limitation of child intake, and CFQ-Monitoring and PFSQ-Prompting to eat were less controlling forms.
Children (3-5y, n = 70) of parents with higher CFQ-Pressure to eat scores showed lower total intaed differential patterns of associations. Results were consistent with child-to-parent and parent-to-child effects, but research using longitudinal designs is needed to test bidirectional relationships.Evidence on effective fall prevention strategies for community-dwelling elders with dementia is limited, although these elders are at high risk of falling. Informal caregivers may play an essential role in managing fall risk for elders with dementia. Thus, understanding caregiver's experiences is critically important. This systematic review aims to (a) identify caregivers' perceptual, emotional and behavioural responses to fall risk in elders with dementia and (b) examine the outcomes and effects of caregiver behavioural responses. A mixed methods systematic review of 10 databases (PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Social Service Abstracts, Social Work Abstracts, EMBASE, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library and TRIP Medical Database) was conducted. We searched English language, peer-review articles (January 1, 1985-March 20, 2020) that met the predefined inclusion/exclusion criteria. Study quality was assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. Data were analysed using thematic synthesis techniques. Twenty-nine studies were included. Six analytic themes were generated concerning caregivers' perceptual, emotional and behavioural responses (a) fear of the negative health consequences of falls; (b) limited insights into factors contributing to falls; (c) varying expectations of managing fall risk; (d) multi-level efforts; (e) struggling with responsibilities; and (f) inaction and withdrawal. The findings about the outcomes and effects of caregivers' behaviours were synthesised into three analytic themes (a) multi-faceted outcomes; (b) uncertain and inconsistent evidence; and (c) unclear associations. The study generated new insights in understanding caregivers' responses of fall risk among community-dwelling elders with dementia and identified significant gaps in examining the impact of caregivers' responses and what shapes these responses. Investment in understanding caregivers' perspectives will inform future interventions and policies to reduce negative outcomes for elders, caregivers and care systems.Prudent choices of cell sources and biomaterials, as well as meticulous cultivation of the tissue microenvironment, are essential to improving outcomes of tissue engineering treatments. With the goal of providing a high-quality alternative for bone and cartilage tissue engineering, we investigated the capability of bovine placental scaffolds to support adipose-derived cell differentiation into osteogenic and chondrogenic lineages. Decellularized bovine placenta, a high-quality scaffold with practical scalability, was chosen as the biomaterial due to its rich extracellular matrix, well-developed vasculature, high availability, low cost, and simplicity of collection. Adipose-derived cells were chosen as the cell source as they are easy to isolate, nontumorigenic, and flexibly differentiable. The bovine model was chosen for its advantages in translational medicine over the mouse model. When seeded onto the scaffolds, the isolated cells adhered to the scaffolds with cell projections, established cell-scaffold communication and proliferated while maintaining cell-cell communication.
