This study sets out to evaluate the production of lovastatin by Brazilian wild strains of A. terreus isolated from a biological sample and natural sources. Carbon and nitrogen sources and the best physicochemical conditions using factorial design were also evaluated. The 37 fungal were grown to produce lovastatin by submerged fermentation. A. terreus URM5579 strain was the best lovastatin producer with a level of 13.96 mg/L. Soluble starch and soybean flour were found to be the most suitable substrates for producing lovastatin (41.23 mg/L) and biomass (6.1 mg/mL). The most favorable production conditions were found in run 16 with 60 g/L soluble starch, 15 g/L soybean flour, pH 7.5, 200 rpm and maintaining the solution at 32 °C for 7 days, which led to producing 100.86 mg/L of lovastatin and 17.68 mg/mL of biomass. Using natural strains and economically viable substrates helps to optimize the production of lovastatin and promote its use.Primary urethral adenocarcinomas are very rare neoplasms accounting for less then 10% of all urethral carcinomas. Site of their origin is unclear, but they seem to arise from Skene's paraurethral glands, which is the female homologue of the male prostate. The aim of this article is to report the first case of Skene's gland adenocarcinoma in which a molecular genetic profiling was performed. The patient was a 73-year-old woman with a polypoid lesion sized 3 × 2 cm located at the interface between the bladder neck and the proximal urethra. Transurethral resection was performed and small tissue fragments with positive margins were obtained. Histology revealed an epithelial neoplasm consisting of cribriform structures located in the subepithelial connective tissue of the bladder wall and proximal urethra. The lesion showed positive immunohistochemical staining with prostate specific antigen, prostatic acid phosphatase, NKX3.1, and alpha-methylacyl-CoA racemase. Using the Illumina TruSight Tumor 170 next-generation sequencing assay, a mutation and loss of heterozygosity of the phosphatase and tensin homologue (PTEN) gene was detected. No fusion in any of the examined genes was found using this assay as well as FusionPlex Solid Tumor Kit and FusionPlex Sarcoma kit assays from ArcherDX. LAB can help improve food quality and flavor and prevent numerous disorders caused by oxidation in the host. In this review, we discuss the oxidative stress tolerance, the antioxidant capacity related herewith, and the underlying mechanisms and signaling pathways in probiotic LAB. In addition, we discuss appropriate methods used to evaluate the antioxidant capacity of probiotic LAB. The aim of the present review is to provide an overview of the current state of the research associated with the oxidative stress tolerance and antioxidant capacity of LAB.

The objective of this study was to compare ground reaction forces (GRFs) of a group of cats after femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHO) with those of a historical control group.

We searched the database of the Small Animal Clinic of the Veterinary University in Vienna for cats that had undergone unilateral FHO at least 1 year previously. Owners were telephoned and invited to the clinic with their cats for a re-examination. An in-house owner questionnaire-based evaluation, complete orthopaedic examination, hip radiography and gait analysis with a pressure-sensitive plate were performed, and results were compared within and between groups (FHO group and control group [CG]).

Seventeen cats that had undergone FHO (FHO group) at least 1 year previously and 15 healthy cats (CG) from a previous study were included. Measured GRFs (peak vertical force and vertical impulse [IFz] normalised to total force [%TF]) of the FHO legs were lower than those of the other legs of the FHO group and the legs of the CG. Resultour findings point to a long-term residual gait abnormality that could be detected using a pressure-sensitive plate but not always with an orthopaedic examination, in cats 1 year after FHO.

This study aimed to describe the prominent landmarks for an in-plane ultrasound-guided lateral approach to an axillary RUMM block in cats and document the anatomical distribution of injected solution in cadavers.

Eleven mixed breed, frozen-thawed cat cadavers were used. The ultrasound probe was placed on the lateral aspect of the forelimb. A spinal needle was used to inject either methylene blue 5 mg/ml or permanent tissue dye 110 within the focal clustering point of the radial (R), ulna (U), median (M) and musculocutaneous (Mc) nerves. The block was approached from either a cranial or caudal direction. Specimens were immediately dissected. A successful block was defined as ⩾20 mm of continuous stain on all nerves (R, U, M and Mc), a partial block as one or more nerves stained ⩾20 mm continuously and a negative block failed to stain any nerve ⩾20 mm.

The cranial approach stained the R 8/9, U 6/9, M 6/9 and Mc 8/9 nerves successfully, while the caudal approach stained the R 7/9, U 8/9, M 7/9 and Mc 5/9 nerves successfully.
