Reporting followed the STROBE guidelines. RESULTS Nurses in the community health service are older, have more children under the age of 18 and hold more permanent positions than nurses in the specialist health service. Job involvement is the only variable associated with nurses' intention to continue in their current position regardless of whether the nurse works in the community health service or specialist health service. CONCLUSIONS The results indicate that the community health service has the same possibilities as the specialist health service to retain nurses in their current jobs. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE The results indicate that nursing leaders/employers with a goal to retaining nurses are recommended to focus on improving the nurses' job involvement. © 2020 The Authors. Tofacitinib mouse BACKGROUND Community-level social and environmental factors have a role to play in the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Socio-economic deprivation; high obesity rates; high access to fast foods; and, multiculturalism contributes to higher rates of diabetes in some geographical areas. However, there is a lack of research examining people's experiences of living with diabetes in diabetogenic areas. The word diabetogenic implies that the phenomenon of interest contributes to the development of diabetes. DESIGN Qualitative, geographical case study approach. METHODS A convenience sample of 17 people living with diabetes in a diabetogenic, low-socioeconomic urban area participated in face-to-face, semi-structured interviews. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed and analysed thematically. This paper adheres to the COREQ guidelines. FINDINGS Four main themes were identified 1. Diabetes fatalism Inevitability and inertia; 2. Living with Inequity Literacy and intersectionality; 3. Impersonal services Intimidating and overwhelming; and, 4. Education in the community Access and anecdotes. CONCLUSIONS This study has highlighted the need to develop local solutions for local problems. In this geographical area, solutions need to address generally lower health literacy, how the community would prefer to receive diabetes education and the issue of diabetes fatalism. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE Findings from this study have highlighted a need to re-examine how diabetes education is delivered in communities that are already experiencing multiple disadvantages. There are research and practice connotations for how fatalism is positioned for people at high risk of developing diabetes. This article is protected by copyright. Considerable research has focused on prevention of vertical and horizontal transmission; however, comparatively little research has investigated factors that increase prevalence of RS infection in captive environments. We evaluated the effects of three common hatchery conditions (handling, nutrition level, and rearing density), on RS infection prevalence. Fish were sampled at 30- and 60-days post-exposure to RS. Of 577 juveniles examined, 65 (11.27%) had anterior kidneys infected with RS. Using a logistic mixed model analysis, we found effects of nutrition level (P=0.018), handling (P=0.010) and sampling period (P=0.003) on the prevalence of RS. The interactions of nutrition and handling (P=0.008), and nutrition and time (P less then 0.001) were also significant. When fed a standard nutritiease handling of hatchery-reared Chinook salmon if exposed to RS. This article is protected by copyright. Since the introduction of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV), a method of providing mechanical ventilation that does not bypass the upper airway, this modality has been widely used as an important addition to the acute care of ACPE. In trying to understand the spread of the disease, one of the most notable features is that only a small number of severe SARS-CoV-2 infections have involved children. The huge age disparity in disease severity might be one of the most stringent fundamental knowledge gaps. This article is protected by copyright. Here, we attempted to determine the key proteins responsible for melanoma radioresistance, with the aim of improving disease response to radiation therapy. Two melanoma cell lines, SK-Mel5 and SK-Mel28, with different radiosensitivities were analyzed via RNA-Seq (Quant-Seq) and target proteins with higher abundance in the more radioresistant cell line, SK-Mel28, identified. Among these proteins, integrin αvβ3, a well-known molecule in cell adhesion, was selected for analysis. Treatment of SK-Mel28 cells with cilengitide, an integrin αvβ3 inhibitor, as well as γ-irradiation resulted in more significant cell death than γ-irradiation alone. In addition, Akt, a downstream signal transducer of integrin αvβ3, showed high basic activation in SK-Mel28 and was significantly decreased upon co-treatment with cilengitide and γ-irradiation. MK-2206, an Akt inhibitor, exerted similar effects on the SK-Mel28 cell line following γ-irradiation. Our results collectively demonstrate that the integrin αvβ3-Akt signaling pathway contributes to radioresistance in SK-Mel28 cells, which may be manipulated to improve therapeutic options for melanoma.
