Three new polyacetylenes (1-3), together with six known polyacetylenes (4-9), were isolated from a 95% aqueous ethanol extract of the Atractylodes japonica Koidz.ez Kitam. Their structures were elucidated by HR-ESI -MS and NMR techniques as well as comparison with those reported in literatures. The cytotoxic activity of 1-3 were also evaluated.Diabetic retinopathy (DR), which is known as a severe complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus, can cause varying degrees of damage to visual acuity. The pathogenesis of DR is multifactorial and not fully understood. Many previous research studies have revealed that an aberrant level of some long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) may accelerate the development of DR. These lncRNAs are regulatory factors and research related to them is always underway. In this review, we will update several types of lncRNAs based on the previous studies which are related to the development of DR and discuss its potential mechanisms of action and connections. Generally, the review will help us know more about lncRNAs and provide directions for future research related to DR.Objectives The study aimed to assess the relation of anxiety and depression levels with hypertension in COVID-19 outbreak. The analysis of the association of selected socio-demographic and clinical parameters on the presence and severity of psychological distress was also performed. Methods The study involved 91 patients applying with a medical history supportive of COVID-19 infection. According to the hospitalization criteria and diagnostic result of SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid test certainty of the disease, three groups were created. Patients with positive SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid test results were consisted of 31 hospitalized subjects. Belnacasan To assess the applicant psychological state, a specially developed questionnaire was used, as the presence and severities of the symptoms were assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Results Statistically, a significantly higher average level of depression and a higher incidence of anxiety were demonstrated among applicants in the Covid-19 pandemic (% 24 and % 44). Also a higher level of anxiety was demonstrated in hospitalized patients compared with the outpatient group. Different from the presence of depression symptoms, the presence of anxiety symptoms was associated independently with hypertension in our study group OR 2.6 (95% CI, 0.99-6.78) P = .04). Conclusions In the aftermath of COVID-19 outbreak both anxiety and depression are common psychological disorders. Also, different from the symptoms of depression, the symptoms of anxiety are associated independently with hypertension. The described socio-demographic parameters and clinical characteristics had no impact on the symptoms of depression and anxiety irrespective of hospitalized status in the investigated groups.

To report on impact of NdYAG laser goniopuncture (LGP) timing on hypotensive efficacy of deep sclerectomy (DS) for open-angle glaucoma (OAG) patients.

228 patients who underwent DS followed by NdYAG LGP between January 2010 and December 2013, (follow up - 5 years) were enrolled into a single-center, retrospective, non-randomized, consecutive study. Subjects were divided into two groups (1 - delayed LGP,

 = 116; 2 - early LGP,

= 112). Demographic variables, preoperative glaucoma medications, preceding surgeries and glaucoma severity were analyzed. Intraoperative and postoperative complications, intraocular pressure (IOP), ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) values were recorded. Success rate was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier curve. UBM data were the criteria for early or delayed LGP.

LGP was performed 3.46 ± 1.9 (1.5-6.7) months after DS in group 1, 1.12 ± 0.08 (0.9-1.5) months in group 2 (

 = 0.0001). Mean IOP before LGP in group 1 was 18.5 ± 4.7 (11.2-22.9) mm Hg; 15.7 ± 4.1 (9.1-18.5) mm Hg in group 2 (

 = 0.001). Choroidal effusion occurred in 8.6% of group 1 and 3.5% of group 2 (

 = 0.0001). Postoperative IOP 15.6 ± 4.6 (group 1) and 15.7 ± 4.3 mm Hg (group 2) at 12 months (

 = 0.98), 16.7 ± 4.3 and 14.9 ± 1.6 mm Hg at 24 months (

 = 0.004), 16.8 ± 3.9 and 14.5 ± 3.2 mm Hg at 60 months, respectively (

 = 0.0001). Complete success rates 68.07% and 92.59% at 12 months, 40.7% and 75.8% at 24 months, 15.2% and 48.93% at 36, 48, 60 months in groups respectively (

 = 0.0001).

Early LGP after DS excludes TDM influence on further formation of intrascleral canal cavity and outflow pathways demonstrating pronounced hypotensive success in a long-term follow-up.

In hydrocephalus treatment, ventriculo-peritoneal shunts (VPS) have become the most relevant therapy for seven decades among other treatment options. Due to the hydrostatic pressure in vertical position, CSF diversion is somehow non-physiological. The integration of gravitational valves in VPS was established to counteract the hydrostatic draining force and to approach a physiological condition of the cerebrospinal diverting system. Numerous clinical studies have shown that gravitational valves are able to reduce secondary complications of VPS treatment. It remains a challenge for the treating neurosurgeon to select the correct valve resistance based on individual anatomies and different etiologies of hydrocephalus as well as varying levels of activity of the patient.

This review covers the development of gravitational shunt valves from historical, theoretical and clinical aspects for pediatric and adult etiologies of hydrocephalus. We discuss the role of gravitational shunt valves in preventing over-drairess this need to minimize over-drainage events in the vertical position without affecting the CSF flow in the horizontal position. The results of ongoing prospective studies on the safety and efficacy of adjustable gravitational valves are still pending. Due to the complexity of the CSF flow, lifelong follow-up care for patients with VPS is critical.
