Future studies should consider examining underlying mechanisms that contribute to these sex differences within ε4 carriers. Objectives We conducted a cross-sectional study in Hong Kong community to estimate the carriage prevalence, associated factors and genotypes of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase producing Enterobacteriaceae (ESBL-E), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE). Methods Seemingly healthy subjects were asked to provide nasal, handprint and stool samples from March to April 2017. Isolates were characterized by molecular methods. We used multivariable logistic regression models within a generalized estimating equation framework to identify risk factors for ESBL-E carriage. Characteristics of MRSA/CPE carriage were summarized. Results The prevalence of ESBL-E, MRSA and CPE were 52.8% (104/197), 2.5% (5/197) and 0.5% (1/197) respectively. Most ESBL-E isolates were Escherichia coli (85.6%; 113/132). Most ESBL genes belonged to blaCTX-M-G9 (68.9%) and blaTEM (53.0%) types. Self-reported antibiotic consumption (≥2 courses) in the past six months was associated with ESBL-E carriage (adjusted odds ratio 4.71-5.47). Conclusions Abundance of ESBL-E in the community are causes of concern, and antibiotic use is associated with its carriage. Presence of MRSA and CPE in community members without clear healthcare exposure hints on a change in their epidemiology. This study establishes a baseline to formulate infection control policies and future studies in combating antimicrobial resistance. Objectives In areas of SARS-CoV-2 outbreak worldwide mean air pollutants concentrations vastly exceed the maximum limits. Chronic exposure to air pollutants have been associated with lung ACE-2 over-expression which is known to be the main receptor for SARS-coV2. The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between air pollutants concentration (PM 2.5 and NO2) and COVID-19 outbreak, in terms of transmission, number of patients, severity of presentation and number of deaths. this website Methods COVID-19 cases, ICU admissions and mortality rate were correlated with severity of air pollution in the Italian regions. Results The highest number of COVID-19 cases were recorded in the most polluted regions with patients presenting with more severe forms of the disease requiring ICU admission. In these regions, mortality was two-fold higher than the other regions. Conclusions From the data available we propose a "double-hit hypothesis" chronic exposure to PM 2.5 causes alveolar ACE-2 receptor overexpression. This may increase viral load in patients exposed to pollutants in turn depleting ACE-2 receptors and impairing host defences. High atmospheric NO2 may provide a second hit causing a severe form of SARS-CoV-19 in ACE-2 depleted lungs resulting in a worse outcome.Resistant starch (RS) also known as healthy starch has shown several health benefits. Enhancing the RS through genetic modification approaches has huge commercial importance. Regulatory RNA like long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) plays an important role in gene regulation. In this study, we mined 63 transcriptome datasets of wheat belonging to 35 genotypes representing two seed developmental stages. Contrasting expression of a subset of. lncRNAs in RS mutant lines compared to parent wheat variety 'C 306' signifies their probable role in RS biosynthesis. Further, lncRNA- TCONS_00130663 showed strong positive correlation (r2 = 1) with LYPL gene and strong negative correlation with SBEIIb (r2 = -0.94). We found TCONS_00130663 as positive regulator of LYPL gene through interaction with miR1128. Based on relative expression, in-silico interaction and DSC analysis we hypothesize the dual role of TCONS_00130663 in RS type 2 and type 5. The study provides a useful resource for functional mechanism of lncRNAs.Gliomas account for 75% of the primary malignant brain tumors and a majority of lower-grade gliomas (LGG) inevitably develop into glioblastoma. The dysregulation of lncRNAs play a crucial role in LGG. In the present study, we first screened out six differentially expressed lncRNAs (AC021739.2, AL031722.1, AL354740.1, FGD5-AS1, LINC00844, and NEAT1) based on TCGA and GTEx RNA-seq databases. LncRNA prognostic signature was then established by Kaplan-Meier and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression, with its predictive value validated by time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. After lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory networks were established by Cytoscape 3.7.2, Gene Oncology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses were performed, with results enriched in various malignancy-related functions and pathways. Finally, six putative drugs (irinotecan, camptothecin, mitoxantrone, azacitidine, mestranol, and enilconazole) were predicted by Connectivity Map. In conclusion, we identified a 6-lncRNA prognostic signature with its ceRNA networks, and six candidate drugs against LGG.Background To compare the diagnostic value of prostate cancer (PCa) between holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) and transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 2909 patients who underwent surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) from January 2008 to June 2018. A total of 1362 patients received HoLEP, and 1547 patients received TURP. The baseline patient characteristics were collected. We then compared the perioperative outcomes of these patients who diagnosed with incidentally diagnosed prostatic carcinoma (IDPC) or PCa after BPH surgeries. Results The total detection rate of PCa in HoLEP group was higher than that in TURP group (85/6.24% vs. 61/3.94%, p = 0.005). Specifically, 55(4.6%) patients were diagnosed with IDPC in HoLEP group with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) less than 4 ng/ml, and 37(2.7%) patients in TURP group (p = 0.014). For the patients with PSA between 4 and 10 ng/ml, 15(13.9%) patients were diagnosed with PCa after HoLEP, and 6(5.0%) patients after TURP (p = 0.023). But the detection rate of PCa was not significantly different between the two groups when PSA was over 10 ng/ml. On the other hand, 57 in 1215 patients with no prostate biopsy preoperatively were diagnosed with PCa after HoLEP, while 42 in 1370 patients after TURP (4.7% vs. 3.1%, p = 0.040), respectively. Twenty-six patients received once biopsy and diagnosed with PCa in HoLEP group, while 15 patients in TURP group (18.4% vs. 8.9%, p = 0.018), respectively. However, no significant difference was observed for patients who received twice prostate biopsy in the two groups. Conclusions The present study showed that HoLEP can provide a higher total detection rate of PCa when compared with TURP. Besides, this superiority was especially embodied in patients with PSA less than 10 ng/ml.
