In this new era of remote teaching, a greater challenge has been presented in the field of equine science; how to effectively share knowledge that is most often demonstrated by providing students access to live, in-person animal examples. Historically, students and teachers believed skill sets, which are vital for future careers in the industry (e.g., veterinarian) must be learned through hands-on experience. However, in-person methods were not available, so students were taught through the Zoom platform. Students enrolled in various levels of equine science classes were invited to complete a short voluntary questionnaire measuring their response and perception to equine courses taught in an entirely online remote setting by the same professor. One group was comprised of undergraduates majoring in the field (n = 44) in upper level equine science courses, Advancedeciated the opportunity to access recorded materials. Students responded positively to online remote teaching and found courses to be effective for increasing their knowledge about equine science in an engaging manner, despite their continued preference for in-person instruction.Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are hematopoietic stem cell disorders with dysregulated myeloid blood cell production and propensity for transformation to acute myeloid leukemia, thrombosis, and bleeding. Acquired mutations in JAK2, MPL, and CALR converge on hyperactivation of Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) signaling as a central feature of MPN. Accordingly, JAK2 inhibitors have held promise for therapeutic targeting. After the JAK1/2 inhibitor ruxolitinib, similar JAK2 inhibitors as fedratinib are entering clinical use. While patients benefit with reduced splenomegaly and symptoms, disease-modifying effects on MPN clone size and clonal evolution are modest. Importantly, response to ruxolitinib may be lost upon treatment suggesting the MPN clone acquires resistance. Resistance mutations, as seen with other tyrosine kinase inhibitors, have not been described in MPN patients suggesting that functional processes reactivate JAK2 signaling. Compensatory signaling, which bypasses JAK2 inhibition, and other processes contribute to intrinsic resistance of MPN cells restricting efficacy of JAK2 inhibition overall. Combinations of JAK2 inhibition with pegylated interferon-α, a well-established therapy of MPN, B-cell lymphoma 2 inhibition, and others are in clinical development with the potential to enhance therapeutic efficacy. Novel single-agent approaches targeting other molecules than JAK2 are being investigated clinically. Special focus should be placed on myelofibrosis patients with anemia and thrombocytopenia, a delicate patient population at high need for options. The extending range of new treatment approaches will increase the therapeutic options for MPN patients. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of periapical radiographs obtained with two different projections in determining the cleanliness of root canals in endodontic retreatment using the sectioned roots as a gold standard.

The amount of residual root-filling material after endodontic retreatment procedures in 42 roots was assessed in radiographs and in microscopic photographs of the sectioned roots by five observers. Furthermore, the cleanliness of 80 roots was assessed based on orthogonal and mesio-angulated radiographs. Four parameters were used for the evaluation of cleanliness. Wilcoxon signed-rank tests and percentage agreement calculations were used for comparisons between the radiographs and the gold-standard observations and between the orthogonal and mesio-angulated radiographs, respectively. Intra- and interobserver reproducibility was tested using Kappa statistics and intra-class correlation tests. The statistically significance level was 0.05.

We recruited 486 oncology physicians to an anonymous cross-sectional online survey through social media from March 27, 2020, to April 10, 2020, with 79.2% reporting their sources of medical information during the COVID-19 pandemic. We found a diverse array of reported sources for COVID-19 information that most commonly included professional societies (90.7%), hospital or institutional communications (88.6%), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (69.9%); however, trust in these sources of information varied widely, with professional societies being the most trusted source. These results highlight the important role that professional societies, hospitals, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention play in ensuring dissemination of consistent, high-quality practice recommendations for oncology physicians.
