Most colloidal Cd was mobilised from the compost treated soils (50%-60%), followed by the peat treated soils (20-44%). The relationships between colloidal Cd, DOC concentration and soil pH, together with the spectroscopic and modelling results showed that structural properties of DOM are an important factor in mobilising Cd from contaminated soils. In this study, we analyzed biomarkers and heavy metals in Ucides cordatus specimens caught in mangrove areas [A1 = reference (low impact area); A2, A3 and A4 = port complex (potentially impacted area)] of the Amazonian northern coast of Brazil. Sediments and crab muscles sampled from the potentially impacted mangroves showed high levels of metals. Additionally, catalase and glutathione S-transferase enzymes in the gills and hepatopancreas of the collected crabs were elevated in crabs from A2, A3 and A4 relative to those from A1. The histological characteristics of the gills and hepatopancreas differed in crabs collected from A2, A3 and A4 compared with those collected from A1. The crabs were larger and heavier in the rainy season in A1 and A3 and heavier in the dry season in A4. Heavy metal analyses of sediments, crab muscles and biological responses indicated that the animals are subjected to stress levels differentiated in the mangroves due to a gradient (A4>A3>A2>A1) of anthropogenic pressure in São Marcos Bay. In conclusion, the analyses of metals in the sediment and in the muscles of crabs, as well as the biochemical biomarker and histological analyses, suggest that crabs from mangroves in the port complex region are subject to pollutants that compromise their health. The aim of this work was to study the operational performance and the microbial community dynamics during the start-up of ANITATMMox technology implemented at full-scale wastewater treatment plant in Finland to treat reject water from anaerobic digesters. The average ammonium removal in the studied setup reached around 90%, withstanding ammonium loads up to 0.13 g N m-2h-1. The nitrite concentration in the effluent did not exceed 10 mg L-1, and there was a slight accumulation of NO3--N during the operation which was controlled. Thus, the result showed a robust success to high ammonium loading in presence of organic matter. Cytoskeletal Signaling inhibitor The sequencing showed a heterogeneous microbial population where Methanosaeta, WCHA1-57 genus, Sphingobacteriia, Chlorobia and diverse unknown fungi were found as dominant phylotypes. Moreover, members of the Brocadiaceae family were dominant in the adhered biomass, mostly represented by Candidatus Scalindua, rarely reported in WWTPs. Overall, the results demonstrated a drastic effect of region-specific operational conditions on carrier biofilm microbial communities as it was demonstrated by the microbial studies. In this study, a swelling layer was constructed on the surface of the nano-polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber fabric prepared by electrospinning to enrich uranium (U (VI)) adsorption from seawater. The constructed swelling layer composes of a polyethyleneimine (PEI) containing a huge amount of amino groups and imino groups with strong hydrophilicity. The molecular chain swelled in an aqueous solution by forming a swelling layer on the PAN surface. In addition, p-aminobenzenesulfonic acid (SA) was used as the side chain end group grafted on the PAN surface, the benzene ring as the side chain can hinder the rotation of the PEI chain, thereby increasing the rigidity. The increasing of the rigidity leads to stretch the conformation of the PEI molecular chain, increasing the probability of collision with U (VI), which is beneficial for adsorption. The adsorption capacity of the prepared adsorbent in the adsorption experiment reached 215.25 mg g-1, and the adsorption capacity in the 8 ppm spiked simulated seawater reached 144.5 mg g-1. The adsorption mechanism of U (VI) was analyzed by XPS. The sulfonic acid group in SA as the terminal group and amino group in the swelling layer formed a coordination structure with U (VI). The swelling layer constructed on the surface of polyacrylonitrile fibers is used to effectively extract uranium from seawater.Bifenazate is a widely used acaricide, but its biological safety remains unknown. In the present study, the immunotoxic effects of exposure to bifenazate on zebrafish larvae were evaluated for the first time. Firstly, after exposure to bifenazate, the body length of the zebrafish larvae became shorter and the yolk sac swelled. Secondly, the number of innate immune cells and adaptive immune cells was greatly reduced. Following exposure to bifenazate, oxidative stress levels in the zebrafish increased significantly, antioxidant activity was inhibited, and the expression of genes related to antioxidants, such as those of the glutathione metabolism pathway, changed, including gclm, prdx1, serpine1, and gss. In addition, inflammatory factors such as CXCL-c1c, IFN-γ, iL-8, iL-6, and MYD88 were abnormally expressed. The use of astaxanthin was effective in rescuing the developmental toxicity caused by bifenazate exposure. In summary, bifenazate exposure is immunotoxic and can cause oxidative stress in zebrafish larvae.Algae is able to accelerate the photodegradation rate of contaminants under sunlight irradiation, and this process can be attributed to algal substances, namely, intracellular organic matter (IOM) and extracellular organic matter (EOM). This study aimed to investigate the efficiencies and mechanisms of the photodegradation of three pharmaceuticals - acetaminophen (ACE), codeine (COD) and cephradine (CFD) - in the presence of Chlorella vulgaris and its algal substances. The result shows that a much higher photodegradation rate of acetaminophen was obtained in the presence of IOM (kobs = 0.250 hr-1) than in the presence of EOM (kobs = 0.060 hr-1). The photodegradation mechanisms of acetaminophen were demonstrated and verified by scavenger experiments and probe tests. The major reactive species for acetaminophen photodegradation was triplet-state IOM (3IOM∗), which contributed 93.52% of the photodegradation, while ⋅OH was the secondary contributor (5.60%), with 1O2 contributing the least (0.88%). Chlorella vulgaris also effectively enhanced the photodegradation of codeine and cephradine.
