Objective In this meta-analysis, we aimed to investigate the effects of art therapy on anxiety and depression in patients with breast cancer. Methods Electronic databases were searched for relevant studies through December 2019. Standardised mean differences (SMDs) were calculated as the effects of art therapy on improvement of anxiety and depression in women with breast cancer. The meta-analysis included nine studies involving a total of 446 participants. Results The summary SMD of art therapy for anxiety was -1.02 (95% confidence interval (CI), -2.08 to 0.04; p = .06). The pooled SMD of art therapy for depression was -0.73 (95% CI, -1.45 to -0.01; p = .046). In the age subgroup analysis, the summary SMD of art therapy for anxiety was -1.30 (95% CI, -2.45 to -0.14; p = .03) for a mean age of more than 55 years. The summary SMD of art therapy for depression was -1.01 (95% CI, -1.95 to -0.05; p = .04) for a mean age of less than 55 years. Conclusion This meta-analysis revealed that art therapy demonstrates positive effects on depression but not anxiety in patients with breast cancer. There appears to be a critical age period for art therapy to alleviate anxiety or depression in these patients.N, N-dimethyl formamide(DMF) was first synthesized in 1893 and is used extensively in the industry [1] . Yet, certain bacterial species such as Paracoccus, Pseudomonas, and Alcaligenes have evolved metabolic pathways to use the human-made DMF as a sole carbon and nitrogen source for growth [2-4] . Dimethylformamidase (DMFase) is the enzyme that breaks down DMF in this pathway. We show here that DMFase from paracoccus sp. strain DMF is a halophilic and thermostable enzyme with optimal activity in 0.4 M DMF. The molecular structure reveals a multimeric complex of the α 2 β 2 or (α 2 β 2 ) 2 type. One of the three domains of the large subunit and the small subunit are hitherto undescribed protein folds and as yet of unknown evolutionary origin. The active site consists of a distinctive mononuclear iron coordinated by two tyrosine sidechain phenolates and one carboxylate from glutamic acid. The Fe 3+ ion in the active site catalyzes the hydrolytic cleavage of the amide bond in DMF. Kinetic characterization reveals an enzyme that shows cooperativity between subunits. Mutagenesis and structural data provide clues to a plausible catalytic mechanism.Aim We carried out this research to assess thiol disulfide balance in patients with early-stage endometrial cancer. Methods Fifty-seven endometrial cancer patients and 60 age-matched healthy subjects volunteered for this study. Thiol disulfide parameters and the ratios of these parameters were examined using a colorimetric system. We also evaluated total antioxidant capacity, total oxidant capacity and oxidative stress index. Results Subjects with endometrial cancer had statistically significantly lower serum native thiol and total thiol levels (224.2 [122.8-267.5] and 270.5 [171.6-323.2], respectively) than healthy subjects (281.35 [213.45-358.9] and 339.55 [274.1-425.95], respectively) (P = 0.001, P less then 0.001). Subjects with endometrial cancer had statistically significantly higher serum disulfide/native thiol and disulfide/total thiol ratios (12.22 [8.77-17.61] and 9.82 [7.46-13.02], respectively) than healthy subjects (8.9 [6.79-16.35] and 7.36 [5.9-12.32], respectively) (P = 0.038, P = 0.028). Disulfide/native thiol ratio appeared to be strongly and positively correlated with the stage of endometrial cancer (r = 0.827, P less then 0.001). Conclusion This is an initial report related to thiol disulfide balance in endometrial cancer patients. We believe that oxidative stress contributes both to the evolution and to the progression of the disease. We conclude that deterioration of thiol disulfide balance due to oxidative stress is likely to contribute to the etiopathogenesis of endometrial cancer.Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a malignant disease with high mortality and closely involves the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) pathway. Mutations in BMPR2 caused proliferation of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) leading to PAH. Isorhamnetin, one of the main naturally occurring flavonoids extracted from Hippophae rhamnoides L, shows antiinflammatory and anti-proliferative properties. Nevertheless, the effects of isorhamnetin on PAH remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether isorhamnetin has protective effects against PAH and explore possible mechanisms. An in vivo model of PAH induced by monocrotaline (MCT) was employed, and sildenafil and isorhamnetin were orally administered for 21 consecutive days. An in vitro model induced by TNF-α was employed, and cell proliferation of HPASMCs was detected. Results indicated that isorhamnetin significantly improved hemodynamic, histopathological, and echocardiographic changes in MCT-induced PAH in rats. In vitro, isorhamnetin suppressed TNF-α-induced HPASMCs proliferation. Furthermore, isorhamnetin improved protein expression of BMPR2 and suppressed protein expression of TNF-α and IL-6 in rat lungs. Isorhamnetin improved protein expression of BMPR2 and p-smad1/5 and mRNA expression of Id1 and Id3 in HPASMCs. Isorhamnetin ameliorated MCT-induced PAH in rats and inhibited TNF-α-induced HPASMCs proliferation by a mechanism likely involving the regulation of the BMP signaling pathway. The recent emergence of Vibrio infections at high latitudes represents a clear human health risk attributable to climate change. HSP27 inhibitor J2 molecular weight Here, we investigate the population dynamics of three Vibrio species Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibrio vulnificus and Vibrio cholerae within a British coastal estuarine site, with contrasting salinity and temperature regimes during an intense heatwave event. Water samples were collected weekly through the summer of 2018 and 2019 and filtered using membrane filtration and subsequently grown on selective media. Suspected vibrios were confirmed using a conventional species-specific PCR assay and further analysed for potential pathogenic markers. Results showed that Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibrio vulnificus and Vibrio cholerae were present at high concentrations throughout both years, with their populations at substantially greater abundances corresponding to conditions of higher water temperatures during the heatwave of 2018 and at lower salinity sites, which is comparable to the results of previous studies.
